Chris, you can be proud of your decision in 6:00 . When Rheinhold Messner, one of the best mountaineers in the world, was asked how to become the best mountaineer, he replied: The best mountaineer is not someone who reaches the summit, but someone who knows when it is better to turn back without reaching the summit. Keep it up! :DD
Well done Chris, even though you didn't quite make it to the summit! An excellent video with fine resolution, of vital importance. Thanks you for the effort put in to entertain us! 😃Peter
Returned to NZ for the first time in 20 years recently and managed to summit Ben Lomond but a) I took the gondola to shave off the start, b) it wasn’t snow covered, and c) it still took me 7 hours!
Wow i honestly really would already be there. Queenstown is one of the most amazing destinations i want to go so much more fun and the hiking views suppose to be so epic.
The view is absolutely amazing! Looks so cold and slippery too. There is always next time to get to the summit no point pushing yourself if you don't feel confident to reach the top. Till next time!
So true Elizabeth! Always better to be safe. Not looking forward to that climb again though 😂, might have to take the Gondola up next time to save my legs a little bit. Maybe I'll be in better shape by then haha
I did this yesterday, best thing I ever did, it's summer now and the views were incredible! But I can see why you didn't do it, even in the summer it was a scramble in parts, add ice and you'd be toast.
Better to play it safe! Will return another time and reach the summit. Another good one is the Moonlight Track, which you can combine with Ben Lomond for extra punishment
It's such a great camera for the price! We recently upgraded to a Panasonic GH6, but it's about three times the price and overkill for most people. If you like taking photos, the G9 is a great stills camera as well Thanks for your kind words 🙏❤️
Good call. The mountain will be there. Can't do the next one if you don't come down from this one. As for your comment "Can't complain about the view," I'm going to call that an understatement. Thanks for taking us along. Great video.
Thanks for the continued support John! This was my first mountain hiking experience in NZ, soon after arrived. Was a bit of a shock coming from the Western Australia "mountains" 😅
Hahahaha...I traveled from Brisbane to Townsville years ago. I'm going to guess by the quotations around "mountains" that those in western Australia closely resemble those in the east. Plenty of mountains around me, and great hikes to take, but most of the passes are closed in winter. Those that aren't, the trails are. Going to work against me for climbing when I get there. Oh well, one step at a time and make good decisions. Still can't wait.
Depends on the amount of snow. The year we hiked this it was a very mild winter so not a lot of snow on the mountains. With a good dumping of snow, then crampons and ice axe would be necessary. I think some sort of micro spikes would still be ideal if crampons/axe were not required
This was done about 5 weeks ago, will definitely be a lot less snow up there now. Just check the weather for tomorrow as it may be pretty windy/raining. Enjoy 👍

Better to be safe than sorry! Danya would not have been happy if I went up haha
Cool video man! And amazing scenery. Glad there's someone who's happy to post why they turned around right near the summit.
Important to show the failures along with the wins!

Thanks for watching Peter and thank you for your kind words, it means a lot!
What a stunning hike and location. Nice work on making a smart choice
Thanks for the support 🙏❤️

It was the first proper mountain I tried to tackle and may have underestimated it a bit 😅. It was a good wake up call for what lay ahead for NZ!
Wow i honestly really would already be there. Queenstown is one of the most amazing destinations i want to go so much more fun and the hiking views suppose to be so epic.
It's a beautiful town but can be very busy and touristy! If you enjoy a more laid back experience, we recommend the nearby Wanaka 😊👍
Beautiful as always! I had to laugh at you sliding down in the snow. Thanks for making these videos!
Maximum efficiency 😂
Thanks for watching 🙏❤️
So beautiful!
Beautiful hike and video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching ❤️🙏

Great job moose !! Keep up the mint videos man.
Thanks buddy ❤️ Plenty more to come!
You made me buy a lumix g9, amazing videos and editing, real skills

@@ChrisandDanya yes i finally ended up with gh5, gh6 for me is bit expensive, haha thanks for your great tips
GH5 is a great choice!
So close, sorry it wasn't to be, hey! but let's appreciate the fact that you had to walk back and grab the camera everytime you walked past it.
Thank you Hori! ❤️🙏

You'll have an amazing time regardless John! Just might be a bit of a shock initially on the legs 😅
awesome video~!May I ask which month is this?:)
Thank you 🙏❤️
This would have been late July or early August
Was this mountain named after Ben lomand in Scotland or is it just a coincidence
Just looked it up and it was named after the mountain in Scotland!
What kind of camera do you use, qulity is amazing
We shot this with the Panasonic G9, but have some upgraded to the Panasonic GH6
I noticed the sign says bring ice axe and crampons in winter. Do you think those are essential at that time?

Hey mate when was the video made .think of doing tomorrow and trying to judge the conditions

Using a tripod and shooting other hikers off in the distance 😅
