    Heading back to Scotland next week. Thank you for this. Ben Lomond is on my list of hikes while I am home. Did it a few times 20+ years ago. Can’t wait.

    Great storytelling - loved this. Ben Lomond was my first mountain and I had absolutely no idea what I was doing - I had some lightweight boots and a backpack - a waterproof smock from GAP and an old pair of jeans- could barely read a map and for a Scottish summer I naturally got drenched but it sparked a lifelong love affair with the hills so I’ve a lot of affection for this one!

    Hi Paul, A super capture of your day and Ben Lomond doesn't disappoint on the views. Your loop is also my preferred route as it's generally quieter with extended views across the loch. Starting early is another way to get ahead of the crowds but its probably more important to get a parking space. Cheers, Charlie

    Hi Paul, came across your video while trying to find out how the mountains are this time of the year and fell in love with the images you've provided, truly stunning. Planning on hiking the Ben next week (first timer), what should I expect in terms of snow and ice when approaching the summit? Is it doable and safe without the crampons?

    • @PAADVENTURES1
      @PAADVENTURES1  Год назад

      Hi Philip! Thanks so much for your comments! When the light and weather are that good it’s hard to go wrong! 😁😁
      The weather in the hills at this time of year is such a fickle thing…,the weekend before I was over at the cobbler and Beinn ime and it was caked with snow! It all disappeared overnight!
      I always carry both crampons and mini spikes right through until at least the end of April as you never can tell. If you see my video from last weekend I used my mini spikes again.
      So I guess it’s hard to say. What I could recommend is be prepared for the worst. I generally look at the mountain weather information service on the net and on RUclips. You will get a reasonable forecast on a Friday afternoon for the weekend. I will then decide where I am going based on the forecast. So look at the forecast for the day you are going and be aware. A lot of people will be up there with no gear! Personally I think it’s best to be prepared. Mini spikes as a minimum and some waterproofs. I have been walking for years so have tons of gear. If you plan on walking lots think of it as an investment. So, it could be lovely and snowy or nothing at all!!! Just be aware it can all change in a minute!! If you get a chance watch my wee video of Derry Cairngorm and you get an idea of how quick things change!
      Cheers again!
      Paul

      @@PAADVENTURES1 Thank you so much for your time, I will take everything you said into consideration. Looks like Ben Lomond will have to wait due to the lack of public transportation in the winter, I will be hitting the Cobbler instead, looks promising! I will also keep watching some of your videos in the meantime, they are really pushing my desire of climbing a hill 😁 (I'm not even from Scotland). Thank you for the friendly tips, I will be careful, cheers.
