    Beautiful footage of Mt Owen, you've really captured the majesty of the place. I still kick myself for somehow massively screwing up planning a trip there with my dad in 2012 and thought we could go up and back in a day; maybe I misread the distance or something, but of course we didn't even get close. Got to Granity Pass Hut before having to turn around. I still really, really want to get up to the top.

      Yeah getting up to Mt Owen and back in a day would be pretty brutal, but I'm sure there's people that do it 😅. I think going to Granity Pass Hut and back in a day is fairly common, but that's still quite the trip! Well done on completing that
      Definitely worth it to spend the night at Granity Pass Hut and do a day trip up to Mt Owen if you get the opportunity too!

      You should see the caves under the mountain!

    • @ChrisandDanya
      @ChrisandDanya  8 месяцев назад

      @NathanaelCBR can you actually visit them? Danya doesn't like caves so don't think she would have been keen 😅

    • @NathanaelCBR
      @NathanaelCBR 8 месяцев назад +1

      @ChrisandDanya I think the caves are all unmarked and for professionals only, but there's a whole chapter on them in the book Caves (2017) a beautiful book of NZ's caves if you can get your hands on a copy.

    Talk about beautiful, peaceful and quiet. Lakes reminded me a bit of those at the top of Borland Saddle. Getting to enjoy it all by yourselves on top of it. So cool. I can't wait to get back. Another great video. Thank you for sharing.

    Thanks so much Chris and Danya. Really enjoyed it. Such beautiful photography and interesting commentary too.
    It looked pretty tricky to climb Mt Owen. Did you find the route to take was easier being there?

    • @ChrisandDanya
      @ChrisandDanya  3 месяца назад

      Thanks again Patrick!
      The route up was pretty easy to follow, but coming down it was easy to take the wrong track which would lead you to a dead end; still pretty easy overall though. Not a bad place to spend more time though, the rock formations are beautiful 😊

    You are never going to find another area with similar features. Mt Owen is unique. Mt Arthur is the next best spot. Where you camp in the basin is the source of the largest cave system in the country. As you walked from there to the summit there could have been cavers climbing around underneath you. If you shoot nothing other than Mt Owen you will have a profession for life. Mt Owen is very hard to capture on video because it is so 3D, but you got it.

    • @ChrisandDanya
      @ChrisandDanya  11 месяцев назад

      It is a very special spot indeed 😊
      We did Mount Arthur as well and that is the closest, but still not the same. Although, the Tablelands are extremely beautiful in their own right
      We also did the Kiwi Saddle up to Mount Patriarch, which was stunning as well. Was cool seeing Mount Owen across the way

      Current main camera is a Panasonic GH6 with Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f2.8-4.
      Then for the talking and follow shots I'm using a GoPro Hero 10 Black

      I'm ashamed to say we never did ride it 😭, we ran out of time unfortunately. Just means we'll have to do it when we return!
