Its amazing as a Guyanese to see you guys respect the rum. My fellow compatriots abuse the 12 year with ginger ale and coke. Great review! Love from El Dorado's home.
I have had both, no doubt I think the 12 year has a better aroma and taste and I would not spend the extra on the 15. The 12 year is without a doubt my favorite rum
I have all three El Dorado's. The 12, 15, and 21. Taste tested all and found the 15 year to be the best for me. I will give the 21 year to a friend, and keep the 12 and 15. Just goes to show, more expensive is not always the best. Go with what you like.
The 12 is also my sweet spot. I find the 15 a little overbearing. The extra 3 years in the barrel has only made it meaner, but if you let it rest for a good while it does have more complexity, I was surprised by the lack of sweetness, seems like no additional sugar added, More like aged whiskey or cognac, think I'll stick to the 12 though.
I should say, if the oak and spice is more of your thing, go with the 15. Both are incredible, but for me the 12 wins out for that smooth, brown sugar mouth feel.
Great vid + comparison : you have both the NEW Dorado 12 and 15 , with less sugar as per NEW RUM CONVENTION . . . 12 is better buy - BUT - both have different BLENDS from different STILL from Dorado. That fresh dark espresso bean on the nose of 15 wins me over. (( 12 is too fresh, almost scotch-llike ..)
It's fantastic that El Dorado doesn't add sugar anymore. Good Rum needs no extra sugar! If I wanted sweetened Rum, I'd add sugar myself. But I don't want to. And honestly, if you want sweet, tasty spirits, you should drink liqueur. Not Rum!

Thank you so much for watching and your kind words! We are HUGE El Dorado fans!
My understanding is the newer version has less or no added sugar, so maybe that accounts for the less sweet
The newer version of the El Dorado 12 supposedly has no added sugar where as the older version did have added sugar.

I prefer the 15, but for the price point you can't beat the 12. It is a very good rum
Have you tried El Dorado 12 year and 15 year?
Have not tried the 15 but have tried the 12 couple of times so this was interesting to watch.
Had both in my cabinet recently. Both are now gone. :(
Totally agree! 12 years seems to be my sweet spot. This line gets increasingly wood forward as you go up. Great Review.. Clinkem N Drinkem!

The 12 is my favourite rum. I love the molasses finish
Are those special rum glasses or just wine glasses? I’ve had the 12 but drink it out of rocks glass with a single large ice cube.
I also prefer the 12. The 15 picks up a lot more of the oak and spice and the finish isn’t as smooth.

El D 15 is better..43% abv compared to 40%...richer,fuller flavour,but more pricey...12 still good though!😋😋🥃🥃

Totally agree! Thanks so much for watching. Do you have any recommendations of rums for us to review?
