Do you think Starlink only offers services to the US? Just further economic suppression of Canadians in support of the WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM AGENDA TO DICTATORIALLY RULE CANADIANS ! It may be bad financially but it is INTENTIONAL.
The lack of competition, and low populations numbers combined with the large coverage area in our consumer communications is why we have such high prices. If you want to give this contract to another company who will only service Canada, we will be in the same boat again. There will be little doubt that the monthly costs will be far higher than Starlink. Starlink already has a huge user base which keeps costs down. It's a no brainer.
Elon Musk already provides this service to 200,000 Canadian customers which is why he could do the job for half the price. But Turdy is jealous of Elon.
Large coverage area and low population is a weak excuse. Australia pays half what we pay and that’s a massive country with the bulk of its population in a few cities that are nowhere near each other. Finland, Sweden, Norway all pay a fraction what Canadians pay, and they all deal with similar conditions. But you said “the lack of competition” there’s where our problem lies! We have (soon to be) 2 telecom companies that work together to drive prices up, rather than compete to drive prices down. If they ever allow foreign companies to compete in this market, you watch Telus and Roger’s dramatically drop their prices in order to retain costumers. I for one will be with AT&T (or whomever) as fast as I can. Even if Telus does drop their prices to below what AT&T can do. I’ll be gone immediately. For the simple reason that Telus has absolutely ripped me off for 20 years.
@@SecretAgentMan. Australia is nowhere near as big as Canada. Neither are any of the other other countries you have listed, in fact the last 3 are not even close to the same size. Most Canadians when it comes to telecoms, cell phones and cable have adopted the mantra "Gough me, I'm Canadian!". It's a shock to Canadians when traveling out of Canada, to find out how much more these services cost in Canada than the rest of the civilized world.
We subsidize places that have 300 people in bum f nowhere.. they pay the same as someone in DT TO.. hows that possible.. 6 million in infrastructure for 300 people???... plus those towers need maintenance and power 24/7..
When I was in Egypt I bought a sim card for my cell phone. It cost $20 US at a kiosk, and the phone had unlimited everything. Minutes, times, data, none of it mattered. My understanding is that they didnt have plans there. The only thing you couldnt do was video chats or calls. Anything video comms was restricted. Oh, it was good for 6 mos
@@Bumpa1962many small towns have no service. As for small towns, these are the real Canadians who fought for, died for and single handedly belt a once good country, which the simpletons from the filthy, violent ugly dump known as Toronto destroyed.

In exchange for loads of taxpayers' money and special privileges for quebec. Disgusting
If you are rural in Canada and you need internet, then why not get Starlink??? Why should the government pay anything??
Exactly!!!
Probably to be granted predominantly to reservations, would be my own cynical guess. Can't let those folks get any ideas of self sufficiency
It’s so their government can control it
Because relying on foreign made assets in an increasingly isolationist world is dangerous and unreliable, that's why. The DoD had to twist SpaceX's arms into continuing to serve Ukraine with Starlink, all it takes is some random politician invoking some national security concern (as the US often does) and poof, no more internet in rural Canada. That's why this is a good national security project. There's also the misunderstanding here that the government pays for anything... this is a loan with interests, not some handout. Those types of loans exist to prop up local industry and to keep industrial capital, intellectual capital and skilled workers in the country. There is legitimately nothing bad about this.
@@Not.a.bird.Person so we have to pay more for this. Remember too the ownership is American.

Great reporting Brian. This is about national security but is for 40,000 rural homes. Something does not compute.
Because Lilley forgot to mention that the satellites go around the world giving us the potential to sell service around the world. But those little details are unimportant I guess
@@fknloaded2162 If Canada got screwed by this company (twice the Musk quote) then how can Canada re-sell sat services and be competitive?
Trudeau is incapable of not screwing up every thing he touches. Most every day people could not screw up as much as he has it’s unbelievable.
He’s screwing up on purpose. The worse off Canadians are the more they depend on the government. No one is as incompetent as Trudolph, he wants big government so Canadians depend on him for everything.
Corruption continues. No checks or balances. Follow the money...
Telesat CEO Dan Goldberg is friends with Mark Carney.
Pretty typical of our current Government. How much more of their "investing in Canadians" can we afford...?
Turdy now plans to give $10 BILLION of the Canadian Pension Plan to his buddy, Shardy Carney, "to invest" in one of his (Carney's) investment portfolios! Bet both of them pocket a hugh "finder's fee" for that transaction and the next generation of Canadians will have no CPP
By the way thanks Brian always great reporting on issues that should be brought to light
Another contract awarded to quebec with no other bids....Telesat has been losing share numbers over the past few years. BTW, the majority shareholders are American and not Canadian Trudeau....moreover Elon Musk is also Canadian.
@wallybartfay56 Whats important to Trudeau is the jobs are in Quebec
Over 3 billion to connect 40k homes. Wow talk about bang for your buck
Yeah, only $75k per house 😡
And folks wonder why we pay so much.. Rogers/Bell/Telus dont instal, power and maintain for free.
You realize constellations fly above more than just Canada? Even if this was only for 40k homes in Canada (and it's just factually not, this is just blatant misinformation about the use cases of such constellations), the constellation can deliver services across the entire planet. Do you think Starlink only offers services to the US?
It's also not 3B$, it's 2.1B$ from the federal government and the remaining 400M$ portion comes from the provincial government of Quebec because the facility to build those satellites is in Montreal.
The only thing going Bang is Canada’s bank account managed by the Trudeau Liberal government

Exactly Sparkle Socks is throwing away money to other countries and his own pockets to make Canada monetarily vulnerable
Get rid of quebec!!!!!
Brian just said pver 400k
I'm not denying the current canadian telecom companies dont have a part in keeping costs high, but comparing European counties and Canada doesnt work. I do agree with you, I welcome any US telecom companies to set up in Canada. I try to support Canadian business but how can one support a business thats been Fking Canadians for years.
Good information…..I will be switching to Starlink now.
Supporting telesat, is supporting Trudea
It might be.a winning issue in Quebec and help him keep support. In the end, its just the same old play that the Liberals always do, which is to shower Quebec with money at the expense of the rest of the country.
Elon pointed out his totalitarianism during covid. Trudeau's feelings were hurt so Canadians have to pay more to satisfy his ego.
We live in rural Saskatchewan and had marginal internet service until we switched to Star-link 2 years ago. We get great speeds and we paid for the equipment ourselves. I don’t understand why government has to be involved. They are only giving more of our tax dollars to Quebec. The equalization HA HA formula needs to change drastically as it’s definitely not equal!
