    Super tutorial. Thanks for taking the time and sharing.
    Love the subject and those buttercups are gorgeous.
    I was wondering if you have ever used coloured pencils on pastelmat - faber castel polychromos for example?
    👍👏👏👏

      Thank you! I do use some pastel pencils in my work but really just for final details. Faber Castell, Caran d'Ache, a black Bruynzeel and a white Generals pencil. I don't know about coloured pencils but I'm guessing they would work on Pastelmat, just not combined with soft pastel.

    Hi Emma! how do you set up your camera in front view even when the paper is in easel and not in the table?thanks!

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  2 года назад

      Camera is on a tripod looking over my left shoulder. I'm right handed so this allows it to pick up exactly what I'm doing. It's not quite a straight on view of the piece, often at a slight angle. But I'm not going to change the way I work just to film. Working flat on a table with pastel is generally a bad idea.

    Beautiful as always Emma :o).......I have a question on using Velour paper, despite rubbing really well after every layer, my paintings still have the pastel coming off :o(.
    As I sell my art, this is a big problem when sending in the post, as I worry that the pastel painting will have completely come off by the time the client receives it!! Do you have an answer to this? I do not have the same problem with pastelmat which I also use. I hope you can help otherwise I have some very expensive pads going to waste.

      Hi Angie, I've answered you somewhere else already but I'll copy here also just in case :-) Yes velour does behave differently to Pastelmat for sure. There are a lot of things I do to ensure their longevity including mounting the paper so that it's a firm board and not floppy. You've mentioned you're already rubbing your layers in well. The key is really using thin layers so that you're actually staining the paper's fibres with lower layers and not filling the knapp of the paper. I post my work worldwide though and have literally hundreds of velour paintings hanging in frames with no issues. Don't be disheartened though, I too found the problems you're experiencing when I first tried velour, but after time I've got the feel of it. Check out my video on posting pastels as it's velour in particular I post a lot of the time with no trouble. Good luck!

      I often use Hahnemühle velour but this was Pastelmat paper as I'm experimenting with them all right now!

    How do you transfer the drawing onto the pastelmat.

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  5 лет назад

      Hi Linda, it's possible to draw onto Pastelmat, so I drew myself a 2" grid and drew directly onto the paper. If I was transferring onto Pastelmat I would use the exact same technique as I did here on velour. ruclips.net/video/eiDxsN9vxE0/видео.html
