G7 isn't a hard chord once you stretch out your parts of the hand to form it. Its like weight lifting. Slowly you cab strength as you do more lifting. Same thing with any guitar chord. Be patient.
interstategar I completely disagree. Making an effort is the first step on the road to failure. If at first you don't succeed - give up. If you can't manage G7 first time you try it you never will. Give up and try the ukulele. (I'm kidding.)
Only a small portion of this clip was shown in the actual episode for timing constraints. It would've been better if they played the whole song and left the adverts out. Does anyone agree with me? I bet Chrissie herself was furious for the cut because she sang this beautifully.
Even though this was shot twenty years back this was one of my favorite moment from friends. Somewhere we feel so sympathetic towards pheobe and the way Rachel looks at the singer. Ah !
@@ericroufs1 She is after all the one who made it a hit ro begin with. Matter of record (no pun intended). Imitation= sincerest form of flattery. Still true.
Merylee Rush has a really emotional one, didn’t like it the first time but the second I fell in love. Fits the lyrics, the only one that does it imo. Others just sound nie, like the original from Evie Sands or the popular Newton one.
To all those who think she was referring to this song, who she claimed was written about the first man she ever loved. Y'all are obviously not true Friends fans because if you were, you would know the song she was referring to was "Zachary". They just jumped straight to this scene, where she sings this song. Hence, the confusion.
She's so talented and at this point she is utterly confident of her powers. She reminds me of Johnny Cash in that way. This is a good example: everything she does is seemingly simple and straightforward, yet try to imitate it!
Not since Patsy Cline died have I heard heartache so clearly articulated in song. Chrissie is a nightingale, and one of the finest female singer songwriters to ever pick up a guitar, IMHO. When you can hear one note and know who it is singing it, that's talent, my friends. Tough but vulnerable, smart and beautiful. She's got it all.
This is a beautifully shot and composed scene - it’s about character conflict and personal pain in addition to momentary bliss. The latter in that it’s near impossible not to surrender to the presence and musicality of Chrissie Hynde, the former two in what we unavoidably feel for the Friend we know and love, the struggling Phoebe, and also the other Phoebes among us. Delighted that in the episode itself Phoebe and Stephanie bond and even sing Smelly Cat together.
i watched whole friends series like dozens of times and listened to the original song everytime i watched this episode but this is the first time i watched full-scene... and somehow it touches me greately.. truely a great performance
Chrissie is absolutely beautiful and what a rock star. So talented. Yes I have always had a crush 😂 apparently met her at Womad in reading around 96. But to say I was flying is an understatement 🤣🤪
I am soon to be 65 -- a fav when I was all of 8!!! It yep did exist back then!! :) Chrissy does a great job -- this song never can ya get out of your mind once you have heard it!!!
In case people don't realize this is the lead singer of The Pretenders who covered the original of this song in the 90s! Hence if you listen to The Pretenders it is her singing the lead vocal and sounds very similar.
I swear I was holding my tears when I watched the show.. Stephanie (Chrissie) was a new professional singers in Central Perk Coffee House. She was replacing Phoebe who used to be singing in the cafe. Rachel as Phoebe best friend, who was a waitress in the cafe, tried her best to make her boss keep Phoebe. The moment Rachel stared Phoebe outside the window, who was counting the money she earned from street-performing, was actually break my heart.

Chrissie Hynde is a "local" girl who done good for herself and that is why I clicked on it to watch. What popped up next was her studio version of this song. Now I have to find the CD it is on!
Chrissie looks and sings amazing. She's about 45 years old in this video. She was born in 1951, and interestingly enough she skipped all the hippie 60's and 70's music style. She was there at Kent State University during the infamous killing of a student by the national guard. She also left the country and spent time in europe to return with her unique style of music. Long live the Pretenders.

Unfortunately I can't find this exact version to download on iTunes. There is this song under Friends' playlist, but that version has too many drums and extra singers and such. Chrissie Hynde's solo version just on the show is amazing and I would love to get that somewhere.

It was definitely the most memorable moment of any friends episode to me, mainly because Chrissie rocked it and the Pretenders is my favorite band.
