Thanks Rob...I want to use this sonoff for my garage door and loud alarm siren....in Home assistant...not sure why you had to put the remote into the sonoff casing??? Because it is a "rolling" code??? Why not just the RF?
Not sure if I understand your question exactly but the RF remote only triggers one of the switches. It doesn't trigger the actual appliance. So you press the sonoff RF remote button and that uses RF to communicate with the sonoff and activate switch 1 for example. That then switches the wires on ch1 on the device. It doesn't use RF to communicate with the appliance. The remote must be hardwired to the device but you don't have to put it in the case, it just makes it 1 nice neat box.

Hi Rob. I'm trying to do something similar to this with my garage burglar alarm. I want to be able to control it with google home instead of having to hit a key fob or press in a code to arm and disarm the alarm. The alarm system doesn't have WiFi capability so I thought this would be a good way to do it. Currently I can control the burglar alarm arm and disarm with a key fob. I hit the button to arm it and then hit the button to disarm it. I took an old key fob and set it up the way you have it to control the door opener in your video and it works fine with the link software and google home. I don't yet have the key fob paired up with the actual alarm. I'm going to do that last. First I want to make sure I can get it to do what I want and then will pair the key fob with the alarm system. Now for the part I can't figure out. I have a green light and a red light on the alarm panel and outside at the doors so I can tell the status of the alarm. The light is green when the alarm is disarmed and when it's armed the red light is on. Is there any way to have the red and green light status show up on the other switches on the 4 Channel Pro. Set up as it is now I say to google alarm on and it will arm and if I say alarm on again a second time it will turn the alarm off. Having to do it this way with the switch in inching mode unless I'm actually standing there and seeing the color of the red or green light outside I can't tell if the system is armed or disarmed. It's the same concept with the way you have the overhead door and gate in the video. Unless your physically standing there you can't tell if the gate or overhead door is open unless you can physically see them. I want to be able to use that red light or green light to know the status of the alarm by looking at the app and was hoping I could do that somehow with the other available switches on the 4 channel pro. I appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks
John Romano Hi yes I fully understand your concerns and to date I can't see how we can get feedback from these systems I have asked several times in several groups how we can get feedback, but but there is no device that will give feedback apart from the RF Bridge but this would involve a lot more wiring and multiple inputs. I would like to see one of the devices have impots similar to that of a PLC, giving feedback. Regarding my gate and garage door I'm fortunate where I have digital CCTV looking at doors, gates and 360 around the house, but you are a 100% correct I do need to double check that the operation did work but this can all be done from the phone.
John Romano Just to add one more point this sonoff 4 channel Pro and my RF key fob has worked perfectly so to date he has never not triggered in either Direction it is working very very well surprisingly well. If your key fob has a new battery in and use the same settings as mine it'll work
Hi Rob, Thanks for getting back to me. The reason I'm shying away from the key fob idea is it's one of those Genie intellicode systems and I have had problems with it in the past. I have about 6 or 7 key fobs out there between me, my kids, my wife, my business partner, as well as the home link buttons in their cars. It seems as though something gets out of sync every once in a while and then some fobs work and others don't so I have to program all 6 or 7 of them all over. I'm afraid if I try to connect another it will knock something out and I'd have to then re-link all the fobs and home link buttons. So today I wired in the Sonoff pro to the burglar alarm receiver and it works fine. I had an outlet to plug it in right next to the receiver so it was just a short wire from one to the other and then plug it in. Only problem now is I still can't use it wireless since my wifi signal is not strong enough to reach the area in the garage where the Sonoff is. When I push the button on the switch it works just fine. I'm going to get a wifi extender and put it out there since the signal out there now is very weak and I should be good to go at that point and then can start using it with google home which was the original objective. It's too bad there is no way to get the feed back to see if the alarm is on or off or if the door is opened or closed. If that ever gets solved the next move is to add the overhead door to the switch as well. I'm a carpenter by trade and work small projects out of my garage and have thousands of $$$ of equipment and can't afford a mistake of the door being left open. If the alarm is not on it's no biggie for a day but could turn into disaster if the door is open all day with no one there. Thanks again for your help and thoughts. Your videos are very helpful to a wood butcher like me. Thanks
