+Ronald Strange. There was a lot of goofy stuff in these early westerns. I don't know where they got their directors. In at least 3 of his films, Hoppy's pistol is empty. He clicks it a few times, looks at it like,"Is this thing broken?", and Throws It Away!. He's the only one I ever saw do that.

Hoppy was a bad man in this one--of course bad on the side of good. He kills three different villains. These types of series start out with the hero as mean as the bad guys (when they have to be) but they always soften him as the series goes on. They did it with Batman and Superman and even Popeye and Dick Tracy and the Lone Ranger and Matt Dillon.

Interesting to see the progression--Cassidy in 1935, then 1940 then Allan Rocky Lane in 1950 then Bonanza in 1960. Very similar format but things got refined as did the technical works. Episodes start with startling events, then confusion is added and deceptions, then sudden resolutions at the last few minutes.

    西部劇のドラマ作りが既にここに全て見られ、興味深い。ただ、あまりにも簡単に人を殺し過ぎる。野外ロケのシーンは今でも新鮮だ。主役の俳優はあまり知らないが、いい役者だ。
