James, I'm just now getting back into hosting a show on a station again. I've always been interested in trying to make money from my hobby. I took notes. I don't currently have my own station. But I'm seriously thinking about it again. I know I'm just one person, but I know people that have been in the radio/TV business for as long as I have been alive (Currently 61). And he runs a station, and broadcast a show at the University he learned broadcasting from. I've been doing a show since 2002/3. Only to stop in 2016. Thank you for your video..
Hi James, Great Job. I've been in the radio biz for 40 years. Trying to stay actively involved at the tender age of 82. I've successfully owned and operated terrestrial and internet radio stations. I'm finding it more and more difficult to do anything above and beyond recording my podcasts. Because I am trying to create great content, I'm having less time to focus on monetizing the station with your ideas. It would be great if I had someone your age working with me side by side and handling just social media and monetizing. I could not pay them at first, but happy to split the profits 50/50. Do you know of anyone like that or a service you could recommend? Many Thanks and God Bless. I live in Canada,. Allan
Thanks Alan. Best of luck! I don’t know anyone. But when we ran MCR Live in Manchester we didn’t have any issue finding people to help out. Incentivise them either split revenue or help them out with gig tickets or sharing your knowledge and experience with then - find people by posting local ads. Find people on Facebook etc - just make sure they are also passionate about whatever you are. Eg. Find fans of the genre of music you play, people who are into the same artists that you play etc. Hope that helps.
good video but you can not use people lyrics from song you can get in issue with copyright law, I would say it's best to come up with a good word play do that
Before investing, can I actually make a decent profit from an online radio station? If i follow most of these tips suggested. Could I make enough to quit my job after building it up over a year? Has anyone got a successful story?
Yes, plenty of success stories. Check out these case studies: radio.co/blog/best-online-radio-stations-2023 www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2021/jan/20/had-enough-of-radio-2-10-of-the-best-online-radio-stations
Hard to explain on a RUclips comment. Best thing to do is your own research, so If you check out most commercial radio stations or TV channels, they will have competitions where you can text in to enter (you normally have to text a premium rate number which is charged to your bill). They often have big prizes to tempt people in - you can sometimes even enter multiple times via more than one message. Hope that helps!
