    oooh, careful, (saying this for others), my physically healthy 17 year old daughter had to have a cardiologist exam before she got green light for adhd medication, as those can mess with heart rythm and if you have un underlying condition you are unaware of, it can go wrong !
    also, i had just commented on another video of yours how absurd the process was, because the more you suffer from adhd, the less likely you are to persevere through the diagnostic process. i'm very glad you brought this up !

    • @AntoniasUniverse
      @AntoniasUniverse  2 года назад +2

      Hi! Thank you so much for your sweet comments, they made me SUPER SUPER happy! What you wrote is so important, and I really hope your daughter is doing well on the meds too! How incredible is it to have a parent who cares and understands by her side? You are truly awesome!
      I brought this up in a video I'm working on today and I'm really excited to talk about these things finally, there's so much stigma and silent suffering in this condition that is really motivating me to speak out. Thank you for being here!!

I am 55 years old, so it was really time for medication. I hope for a better life from now. Interesting video, even if it was not the way it was for me...Greetings from Norway

    I have literally just got a psychiatrist and at the first portal stage and filling out forms… life is very interesting for sure with my symptoms and is consistent way more than the criteria goes. With the other percent?! I absolutely hate not remembering anything or can’t do the basic things like listening and trying to not daydream when I should be paying attention, the emotions and the dodgy driving and it’s a shame that I am only getting checked out for it now as I am 42 and had a life of hell I’ll be honest so onwards and upwards. Preying 🤞🏻 I can stop feeling crap about my relationship to the lady of my dreams and actually return what she does for me and tbh she’s the best testimony a psychiatrist could ask for lol excellent videos, messages and vibes are amazing. Subscribed :)

      Wow, thank you for sharing! I relate so much to what you've said here. I ruined many relationships with my impulsivity and even wrecked a few cars too... People always think it's about focus, but it's honestly about your whole life when you have ADHD. I recommend reading "Taking control of adult ADHD" by Russel Barkley while you wait, and I honestly hope the whole process goes quick and smooth for you.
      Finally, it feels horrible to have lost all of that time before diagnosis, and it's a thing we have to grieve very personally as ADHD humans. I really have nothing comforting to say about it, it sucks BUT at least the future will be brighter, there is hope! It can get better from now on, and that is wonderful news!
      You're not alone in your struggles. Take care and good luck!!

    I’d suggest getting the diagnosis done by a provider who can also prescribe the medication as then you don’t have to find someone else. They really make the processes hard for people with ADHD. Here in the UK there’s a 5 year waiting list locally to get a diagnosis in person but I can get a referral to have an online diagnosis with a specialist in a lot less time.

  • @BunnyEZ

    lol i missed the 2nd step completely and got told that not only I don't have it, but that a person with ADHD wouldn't be able to focus on a task for more than 30minutes. Total nonsense, but oh well, that's the kind of psychiatrist I got. Will be seeking a second opinion

    What a horrible experience when the adult ADHD was not taken seriously! I have phone anxiety as well. Received my diagnosis at age 36, last week.
    Here in The Netherlands there are specialist centers for adult ADHD who evaluate and treat them (with therapy and medication). Knowledge and recognition about ADHD in women specifically still has a long way to go but my centre was mostly up to date, thank god ❤

    Hi Antonia! I found your channel today and your videos have taken me out of a heavy emotional slump. I'm three weeks away from assessment.
    A question: At 8:30 you say "Anything else works really good only after you get on the proper dose of medication... but first, mindset..." and later you have a caption that says 'Medication , then strategy'.
    Could you please elaborate on what you mean here? Are you saying one should try their best to get their s*** together, but that it'll only come into fruition after medication? Should mindset/strategy come before or after being medicated? Just a bit confused.

    • @AntoniasUniverse
      @AntoniasUniverse  Год назад +1

      Hey Sam! I'm so glad I could give you a little boost! I hope your assessment went well and you got a lot of guidance and understanding from the doctors!
      I was told by my psychiatrist and have already made the experience that this is the case. The meds help with all the subconscious stuff that holds us back and only then can we truly unfold and do our best with strategy.

      Auf dem Schwarzmarkt der Unis kannst du vielleicht an Ritalin kommen. Hab's aber selbst nicht versucht.
      Wegen eines Diagnosetermins: Das Einfachste ist wahrscheinlich (war es zumindest für mich), dich durch (Uni-)Kliniken in deiner weiteren Umgebung zu telefonieren. Die haben mittlerweile fast alle eine ADHS-für-Erwachsene-Sprechstunde. Und jetzt, Mitte Januar, bekommst du vielleicht noch einen Termin für die zweite Jahreshälfte. Also, ja, auf Wartezeit solltest du dich einstellen (also auf jeden Fall schnell anrufen) und auch auf komplette Absagen wegen eines vorübergehenden Aufnahmestopps.
      Ich drück dir die Daumen!

      Hey Carlos! I went to dr. Jörg Dreher in Koblenz, he is a very busy guy, but it's worth a shot. There are some lists online of ADHD-competent doctors you can talk to, so I would try and ring up all the ones that might be in your area. The thing is you need to go to a psychologist first, but they can't give you medication, just diagnose you. THEN you go to the psychiatrist for the medication. Both are quite hard to find for ADHD people especially, but just search for any possible lists or ADHD groups in your area, ask around and call whoever you can!

      I don't do the step with the psychologist. I called the psychiatrical departments of hospitals (who offer special ADHD for adults "Sprechstunden") and made an appointment there directly. But this wasn't easy as well. Most of them are overrun at the moment.
