He might not read books (he does read books in the library, but we can all have an off day ;) ), but most of the time he just takes a look around and thinks on his feet. I love how even though this was a kid's show it wasn't ever dumbed down or simplified for the intended audience, like the writing on TLA is so much better than so many live-action shows intended for adults and that's why both TLA and LOK have a huge fanbase just made up of teenagers and adults

It's because Korra gets half the episodes ATLA did, there's hardly any filler so these kind of scenes don't fit into the show. But I agree LOK needs this, the filler is part of what made the characters so lovable and unforgettable.

Hokku is the opening stanza of renga (an orthodox collaborative linked poem) and the derivative (renku). It followed the 5-7-5 pattern as well. When it became popular as it's own standalone poem, it was renamed as haiku.
the haiku mistress mixed in nature imagery in her poems, which is required in real haiku. Sokka was using a more modern version that doesn't require it called Senryu.

We were told to make Haikus in class, and my friends and I remembered this scene and took turns reciting each one. We also oohed and laughed like the young ladies did. The rest of the class was lost.😂 lol
I'm going to show this to a group of middle school students in a writing workshop. We're going to experiment with Haiku as a new form. This is a great tool to reach the kiddies!
I will back up that choir with a symphony orchestra. Key of E minor and to throw them a loop, I'll compose it in 6/8 time or maybe 5/4. I like odd time signatures.
The part that always gets me is when Aang is outside and Katara walks over to him. Just seeing them hug a looking at their faces that show how happy they are gets me every time. The music in that scene just make me so happy but so sad

The first poem is really very beautiful. The poet speaks with a seasonal motif, but touches on tons of resonant themes. The moon is a romantic idea to Sokka, too, after all.

The part that always gets me is when Aang is outside and Katara walks over to him. Just seeing them hug a looking at their faces that show how happy they are gets me every time. The music in that scene just make me so happy but so sad

xXxJokerManxXx I don't know much about rap battles, but I have a feeling that Haiku battles is a bit harder since you have to stay inside the limit of the syllables. BTW I just love it when Sokka counts at the end and then that big guy grabs him and throwns him out.

The first poem is really very beautiful. The poet speaks with a seasonal motif, but touches on tons of resonant themes. The moon is a romantic idea to Sokka, too, after all.
The teacher(?) also put seasonal references in most of her haikus. Sokka ignorant of that nuance did not bother.
@@thomasfrazer8934 Sokka makes Sokka references, which I've come to appreciate as representative of the real main theme of the dialogue, that is, Sokka feeling unworthy to be in the presence of greatness before realizing he himself is great and has something to contribute.
And yeah, I love how traditional the woman's poems are. Funny how sometimes professional writers know a thing or two about form.
And then he get overconfident and is literally thrown out.
Sokka may not be a bender, but he's definitely got his own talents that make him an honorary member of the gaang
