I have just watched this video of Herne Bay and found it nostalgic and also sad. I spent a great deal of my childhood (I'm now 79!) in Herne Bay as I had several aunts and uncles living in the town. Your video brought back many happy memories but I also found it sad. Sad because much of what I remember has gone. The Casino Cinema has now become an alternative entertainment centre, the Odeon cinema has gone completely and of course the 3/4 mile pier which I used to trot along has long gone along with the Grand Pier Pavilion where I was taken to many shows. All in all I found your video very entertaining and very informative. I now live way out to sea from Herne Bay...in Clacton-on-Sea which faces it on the Essex coast! Regards and praise Bob Grimwood

I lived here when I was 8 (now in my 60s) and remember very well going roller skating in the pier pavilion every Saturday morning. My late Mum worked in Macari's coffee bar and they had a juke box which drove mum mad because everyone wanted to hear the same songs! Early 60s so a great era. I also lived in Canterbury and small places called Sturry and also Herne village. Nice memories 🤗

Our family lived in an apartment in The Dolphin Hotel in 1969 for 2 years. it was very hard for us children because we came from a huge house in Africa with servants, swimming pool etc to dreary Herne Bay. I was 15 and didn't know what depression was until after a few months of feeling so blue, I figured out it was the sky being so grey and there was no wide blue horizon, no open windows. I brought both my parents ashes from Africa to bury in Herne Church as my father had lived there as a boy.
I'm 69 now but sill occasionally dream that I'm back the in dolphin and cry and wonder how did I end up back here?!
Our family soon moved to Australia and the big horizons and blue sky were back.
I was there the day the pier burned down and took a quick swim on the day the first man landed on the moon.
Still Kent and the country so close to Herne Bay is quite beautiful and my father tells me hasn't changed since he was a boy.
Thank you for your video, very well shot .... why did you not film the pretty beach huts near Hampton? always liked that area of beachfront.
If you are wondering, if I disliked the town so much, am I watching your film , morbid curiosity, and I'm at a safe distance in California. Now I'm going to watch your bit about Canterbury, that is a gorgeous town. you do good work.
