    I agree with you entirely Andy. I returned to golf this year after many many years away. The technology has changed massively since I last played golf, but I agree with you that some people seem to be stuck in a rut as to what the norm should be. I bought a set of these clubs and now a 7 wood. Some people have turned their noses up at what’s in my bag, but I couldn’t care less. My scores have decreased massively this year and I’m enjoying my golf. People need to get over the snobbery or whatever it is…..

    Hey Andy, I’m an avid follower of your channel from Australia. I’m a 68 year old PGA member of 49 years standing, with two total knee replacements and a broken left arm in the past year. As I’ve aged I’ve increasingly lost distance and high ball flight but continued using “proper” irons. Earlier this year when you reviewed the Ping G425 woods and hybrids, I became very interested largely due to your enthusiasm. Through industry contacts I arranged a fitting session with Ping and with a swing speed now in the low 70 mile area, took along my 7 iron as a starting distance and told the fitter to fit me from there through the top end of the bag. When I first looked at the 6 hybrid I nearly threw up, but grudgingly accepted the unbelievable height compared to my irons. Long story short, I now bag G425 driver, 3 and 7 wood, 4,5,6,7 hybrids! My only regret is that I didn’t get the 9 wood because the 425 7 wood is now my favourite club and I’m sure the 9 wood would be an even better flight for me that the 4 hybrid. I then go Mizuno MP20 HMB 8,9,P, and Vokey 50, 54, 58. Seriously considering the new Mizuno 225’s 8-Gap wedge, and possibly going to Cleveland smart sole wedges, just for further ease of use. Furthermore, after your recent videos, yesterday I’ve installed a complete bag of JumboMax grips, played today and OMG! Suddenly I can hold the club securely again in my left hand ( broken wrist) and hit 12/14 fairways for the first time in a long while. The revelation with these grip was how lightly I held them, and the performance of the wedges! i guess what I’m leading to is that I implore all your subscribers to leave their ego at home. Yes, I also am a blade lover (have a set of MP18’s in the garage) but you just cannot argue with the ease of use, performane enhancing playability of high lofted fairways and high lofted hybrids. Apologies for such a long post, but people, give these products a go, and be objective!

    I couldn’t hit any iron over a 7 so I bought an Adams Idea Tech 2015 6 hybrid iron. So easy to hit off tee and ground. Feel is great. I liked it so much, I bought a 3h-5h 6 iron-paw. Will turn 68 next month and broke 80 last week for the first time in years. Very happy with clubs that work, not look good and I like the looks of these better all the time.

    I am playing golf again after a 9 year absence. I no longer have the same strength and I have back pain. My golf consultant made me try the Cobra T-RAIL clubs. I love it, they compensate for my weaknesses, protect my back and facilitate my necessary upgrade after 9 years of absence. I play golf for fun and why not make life easier by using these clubs. These kind of clubs are made for players like me and I recommend them. they are definitely underrated.

    I switched to the the Launcher HB from Cleveland. Very similar design. It does take some getting over looking down and seeing the hybrid design but the performance improvement for me is amazing. I am much more consistent. Once I got the lie adjusted correctly it was even better! For the average golfer this is definitely something to look at and try out if possible. Glad to see some legitimacy in your testing. If they gain me 5 or 6 strokes a round it was worth it to me.

    I just bought a set yesterday. 6 to sw. + the 5 Hybrid 23 degrees. Changed from ping G410. I hit quite a lot of balls and noted comparisons. I found the cobra more forgiving, % more straight and higher. Distance wise about the same. But overall a definite plus. I'm 71 years with a swing speed of about 85. On average the 7 Iron goes about 140. May not be very long but accuracy and consistency make up for that.

    Andy I'm 59 and HCI is 3.6. I play driver 3,5 &7 fairways and 5,6&7 ping g425 hybrids, only havec8,9,pw, aw, 54 &58 in 'normal clubs' the hybrids give me 1p yards, they launch high land soft, no problem shaping them. Its my belief that in 10 years it will be difficult to purchase a set of irons because set make up is going to include more and more hybrids, they are the future

    Absolutely love my T-Rails, and they look amazing, look like hybrids; longevity not an issue, and my score has significantly improved. I'd advise these are for everyone higher than low/single digit handicaps. Fully agree with this comment: "I am very happy with my set of pitching iron through 5 iron plus the 4 hybrid", which is exactly what I have from PGA Store, and they're now $200 off.

    I started golf a 5 years ago at age 62. Had I used this type of hybrid-iron I am sure that my rate of improvement would have been greater. I have used both the Cleveland HB Launchers and Tour Edge ( they have several models generations) . What I found is that they are easier to hit well compared to a cavity backed iron and they do have a draw bias. The draw bias would have helped me with my slice that I used to have early on. Now I have to aim about 10 m right of target to get an accurate shot. I can get them to go straight or slightly fade on command and I am no expert ( handicap 11). I think many players would benefit from blending these into their bag to replace the clubs that they do not hit well, or to correct a gapping issue. I have hybrids in my bag ( 19 Cobra SL, Cobra 24, TS2 29) then SL irons 33-60 cavity backed. I could easily use the 4,5,6 Cleveland Launchers instead of the hybrids, but my wife wants her clubs back. TXG channel also called this style of club the easiest iron to hit. IMO,it is a no brainer for seniors and beginners!

    Almost 3 years ago, I dislocated my left hip and couldn't play for months. When I got the OK from the doctor to start swinging clubs again, I didn't have my normal clubhead speed for a while, so I couldn't hit my normal irons high enough or long enough. So, I bought a set of these Cobra T-Rails and it helped me get the ball airborne at a decent distance. Once I got back to full strength, I had to switch back to my normal clubs because, with a higher swing speed, they were going too high and spinning too much. That being said, I would definitely start hitting them again when my swing speed starts going down due to age.

    Great video on the Cobra T-Rail hybrid irons! I agree --- More of us need to get over the looks of hybrid irons and put them in our bags! I'm a 73 year-old with a 9 handicap, but I'm starting to really lose distance on my irons. I'm evaluating Cobra T-Rails and the new 2022 version of the Cleveland XL Halo hybrid irons. Could you do a comparison of these two leading clubs in this super game improvement category? I'd really like to see what you think of the Cleveland's, now that the 2022 version has incorporated a rail design in their soles.

    Seems a really good club Andy. My favourite club in my bag is a 13 wood which has a 33 degree loft. Being an oldie I need a club like this to overcome a variety of shots especially those shots requiring plenty of height. I find this club easier to hit than my wedges and 9,8,7 irons. If you could find one I am sure you would agree with me.

I’m considering making a drastic change over to less irons and more hybrids. I’ve already moved forward in tee location I think it’s time to take the next step and get less irons and more hybrids in the bag. Great video!

    Well it's 14th of July 2024. I'm a 2.2 index, 5 at my club. I'm so fed up of not getting my blades/ mussel back off the deck. I had the rails when they came out nearly, if not 4 years ago. Well, they took me from 10 hdc to 3 l. I've struggled since I swapped them out, so I'm going back. Bought today, so in play on the course Tuesday. Why would anyone not want to play an easy to hit iron. None of us majority are making a living out of golf, so why follow the manufacturers of the very best new irons.
    I'm sticking with the t rails, which will help me keep my hdc. Loose the snobbery guys and enjoy the game instead of hating it, due to spending wasted money on p790 etc. I've just bagged a 4 hybrid, 5 to pw plus sw and gw And a waterproof bag from jam golf. 9 CLUBS AND A BAG.🎉 Cheers andy, your vid helped me make a hard decision, EASY

      There is some truth to what you say. I mean he could probably knock 3-4 strokes off his handicap so why not right? I think it's a little about credibility when it comes to having a golf channel. I am not saying that in a negative light either. But if he is going to continue to evaluate clubs, he can't be at the bottom of the food chain - he needs to be in the middle of the pack at the very least. IMO anyway.

I’ve figured out my distances now and my 5 hc of my 30’s and 40’s is back in sight.

The point is play with what YOU LIKE after all the vast majority of people play for enjoyment. A question ... is lowering your handicap the be all for playing the game? Enjoy and have a chat after the round about how that putt got away or the "If only" shot. No matter what it will bring you back to try again.

    I consider these my gamers. I still toy around with other irons, as I am a gear nerd. But when I play these golf is just more fun. I don't know why most golfers don't play them. By the way, I find it hilarious whenever I hear amateur golfers complain about shaping the ball. Most golfers have no idea they don't know how to shape the ball.

    Btw, this may sound weird, but my 4 iron is “the best club in the bag”. Not high, but very dependably in the fairway. A real head scratcher. I’m an old man, 60, but I hit my long irons better than my short irons and I can’t hit a hybrid straight to save my life. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I have tried those irons, along with the Cleveland and Wilson versions. I can't see the ball flight because I am legally blind and I find all 3 clubs trade feedback for forgiveness. Util they make those cubs with the feedback I get from mu Srixon Z745's I won't be looking at them any time soon. Even not seeing the ball flight, I know where the ball is going off the face with my 745's., no so with any of the hybrid irons. Besides, the weaker lofts non my 7rt's make them almost as forgiving as the hybrid irons. My buddy refers to hybrid irons as swinging a snow shovel. I thing that they are a great idea for many golfers, some o whom I golf with, but for me and others like me a set of weaker lofted forged cavity back irons might be a better solution.

    The issue I see with those, is you would need a set of head covers for all of your irons. They way they are painted up, you would not want to beat them up on the bag. So I do not see myself going that route because a full set of clubs, all with driver style head covers would never fit in a bag.

    Ive been trying to get my dad(64) to try this style of club so he can enjoy the game a bit more but he can't get past the perception of that shape of club unfortunately. Some golfers would rather deal with higher scores than getting a little trash talk from their playing partners.

      I have to agree, in spite of the increased distance, launch and forgiveness, they don't encourage you to take a divot or work the ball.
      The increased size of the sweetspot feeds limited information to the brain, with regards to quality of strike location.

    It's like the Cleveland Launcher clubs. There is a snobby thought that the bigger the top line the lousier the golfer. I know I had that attitude for decades. 'Real Golfers' play blades and only old men and newbies play 'game improvement' irons. The sad part is that it means many golfers end up playing with clubs that are no where close to what they should. I do think that this attitude is changing and with the advent of more and more game improvement irons like the Sim2 and T300 series becoming very popular. Even mid range clubs are more popular. I think these will end up becoming much more popular, especially among later Boomers and Gen Xers.

    This is very interesting. I would like to see a full review with a whole set of those. On course and on the simulator. Also on how they blend with wedges. What I mean by blend is, after hitting these, can you put a good swing on a wedge or does it throw your muscle memory. Like for example, have you ever had days where you are hitting your irons good but not your wedges? Or hitting your fairways good but not your irons? Or even irons vs hybrids? Those seem to be very easy to hit but did it take a while to adjust your swing to make them work. And if so, will that same swing work when you move to shorter or longer different kind of clubs? I like to think I have a set that blends better than ever but there is still room for improvement. I got there with tuning around iround my irons. Mostly swing weights and moi matching. Example. I hit a 5 iron off the tee with one of those irons in review. Now I have 80 to 110 yards in and will use one of my MD5 wedges with a full smooth full swing. Having irons that work well is a major plus. Being able to transition to you wedges smoothly would be awesome. Then having to hunt down brands and setup of hybrids that transition well with your irons. Then fairways to the hybrid and irons. For me, I use the same swing on all my clubs, save the Driver, with the only difference on stock shots being ball position and weight displacement on my feet. Wedges more forward, etc. That's just me and this could be subjective with all the different swings out there. But if I had a set of irons that I could hit like lasers... I would be more than willing to work around them. So long as the transition to my wedges isn't too extreme. God, I hope that makes sense. Anyway, those look like they fit your swing perfectly. Would love to see extensive testing on course in on the simulator with them. Then moving up and down with other club areas in the bag to see how they blend in with those jems.

    What surprises me is why Cobra doesn't make these on One Length. These heads would be the perfect candidate because they could easily move around CG to get the desired ball flight with each iron.
    And, why aren't you putting these in the bag?

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  2 года назад +1

      Very good point regarding one length. As for why, I realised this year that the looks of a blade outweigh the possible negatives, in other words scoring is not my personal driver in golf, although I have resisted the change to blades I have a feeling I will return soon

    • @diogeneslantern18
      @diogeneslantern18 2 года назад

      @@TheAverageGolfer nothing beats the rewarding feedback (or result) of a blade with a pure strike. I will never game these hybrid-esque style of iron - my old man has these and his game has waned so badly in the space of two years which I suspect is as a result of these clubs.
      Anyway, unless you royally stuffed your shot up by topping or shaking it etc, a blade is still going ~90% of your pure shot distance

    I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with clubs like this. I played hb launchers for a year. I've also played g410 irons and now I210 irons. I just don't hit the ball very far and I have found that I can play any iron I want up to about 34° of loft. Below that I just can't get enough launch. I could use a 30° iron in the launcher ok but I now play a 30° hybrid and then an 8 iron.
    These clubs are often touted as miracle clubs but they're not, if your face to path relationship is not functional then your shots will be rubbish. That's just physics. Same goes for ground contact, these might give you a tiny bit of help if you have a very shallow angle of attack and come in slightly behind the ball but if you're steep and 3 inches behind it, that ball ain't going nowhere! I know this from experience.
