  • Replace old factory low light bulb for a nice and SUPER bright LED !!! Weller 100-Watt/140 Watt Soldering Gun. Where to buy? Models was changed, so just Google "Weller soldering gun". Works with any Weller Soldering Guns.
    AC/DC Driver 12V~24V High Power Supply for 10W LED - www.ebay.com/itm/AC-DC-Driver...
    10w white led chip - www.ebay.com/itm/10w-Cool-War...
Don't worry guys about overheating and burn out this LED. The gun in "on" position 10-20 seconds only. That time not enough to overheat the LED.
Не беспокойтесь ребята о перегреве или перегорании светодиода. Пистолет в положении «включено» находится около 10-20 секунд. Этого времени недостаточно, чтобы перегревать светодиод.

The modification described here presents a serious and potentially fatal shock hazard. Neither the primary taps of the transformer, nor the LED driver board suggested, will provide isolation from the power line. At the very least you should properly insulate all of the exposed metal of the LED module.
On earlier models (without the polarized power cord) it is possible for the LED connections to be live with respect to ground with the trigger off. Accidentally brushing either of the exposed LED contacts to something on the bench that is grounded could cause immediate failure of the LED, the driver board, and in some cases, the transformer.
Very early versions of the 8200, i.e.those made between 1958 and the mid 60's that have the type 222 screw in pre-focus lamp use a totally separate (isolated) 2 volt secondary winding on the transformer just for the lamp. Unfortunately the voltage on that winding tends to rise if the tip is not drawing enough current due to loose connections, causing short lamp life. The voltage doubler circuit mentioned by another responder is one way to retrofit LEDs to these vintage tools. Another way would be to use the same two primary taps with the same precautions as later models.
Personally, I've probably bought at least 100 of these tools over the last 60+ years, some for personal use and many for a business that I once owned. Several of my current collection of about 20 have been upgraded to LED.
There is one particular style of 194 LED replacement lamp that I believe is especially well suited. It is molded as a single piece of clear plastic and most of the light comes out the top end as compared to the old incandescent 194's where I estimate that 80% of the miniscule 25 design lumens never make out of the housing. Several of the sellers on Ebay mention the UPC number 600609647158 in their description. A pack of 20 can be drop shipped from a US warehouse for about $4.00. Shipping takes about a week. Once you know what the lamp looks like, you can find a handful of Chinese vendors who when taken as a group offer literally hundreds of them each week with an auction opening bid of 1 cent along with free shipping. I look for items with no other bids since I consider it to be bad form to step on someone else's bid when there are so many available and the vast majority sell for the opening bid. Including waiting a few days for the auction(s) to close, it might take 3 weeks to arrive. If you buy more than one from a single vendor, spread your feedback over multiple weeks.
The lamp that I recommend needs a minor modification. Most wedge based lamps have wire leads that can each make contact from either face of the wedge. These have flat leads that are each folded up against the side that is opposite the contact position of the socket that Weller uses. It is a simple matter to carefully straighten each lead, flatten the bump, and fold the leads to the opposite face of the wedge. The only other part I add is a small full wave bridge rectifier, AC side to the transformer taps, DC side to the lamp socket. No capacitor.
Benefits include: much better light at near zero cost, lamp fits and is fully protected in the original location, no drilling or case modifications needed, original incandescent lamp could be reinstalled if necessary without undoing other changes, and most importantly, no exposed high voltage connections.

Friend I have one solder gun since 1992...Today it works very well... It was my father's solder gun when he was young but today I will use it for SMD CIRCUITS... It works 220volt (old Greece's AC POWER SUPPLY) But now here I use it in 230volt AC, the led was destroyed since 1999 but the solder heater works fine

I just took apart a led flashlight and stuck the whole board in it with a resistor to take the draw down. But another tip with these guns if you reverse the two leads from the coil to switch then you squeeze all the way in for high and halfway for low, like it should be.. never understood why theyve always done that backwards..

The versions of this soldering gun that use the push in style 12 VDC (194) bulb can be easily modified. If you take 3, 5 mm LED's and wire them in series, two under one over, giving a triangle shape, you will find it much better than the original 194 bulb. You will have to add a 150 ohm 1/4 watt resistor to one of the LED leads, or in the actual wiring to the bulb socket. You can use a small piece of rubber to hold the two (+ & -) LED leads against the contacts in the original bulb socket. Leads can be inserted either way as the soldering gun is producing alternating current. You can insulate the led terminals, and simultaneously create a solid piece using 2 part epoxy glue. The lights work fine on both temperature settings.☼☺☼ ☺♥†♪♫ 12-29-2023

Yes it's low, but I would guess that it's working properly since it's a very simple arrangement. And there are 1.5V bulbs for this fittng (Miniature Edison Screw). I am in the UK btw, which could be a reason.
