Seeing the whole downstroke makes me realise John Mayer wasn't kidding when he said edge of desire was inspired by satelite...👍
I can sing Edge of Desire while playing but this one is a different level of a challenge to sing and play at the same time
Also some of the warmups he did at Berkley with tomo played a part. All down picked.
You have to understand how talented you have to be to play the guitar and sing at this quality at the same time
you have to understand how talented you have to be just to play dave chords
Its pretty fun/interesting/difficult to play. It's nice though because a lot of the words fall on the downbeat. Once you have the descending 1-5 chords shape down, memorize it, engrain it, then the words take practice. Because the left hand is so monotonous and robotic, the words feel like they just float along out of time as you sing them.
@@gracesinclair4275 he listened to a lot of Crimson and Fripp with his new standard tuning. DM would learn those songs in regular tuning not knowing, hence part of his crazy finger gymnastics

Still hasn't lost his voice. And by far his best song. This song is what got hooked, it's time my kids listen to this song great song, and great band.
Never to early for your kids to listen to great music. It will stick with them forever. I can remember music my parents played while I was barely conscious. My first time listening now that I’m older and I feel a special connection.

It's a tough one
It really is. I taught myself about 24 years ago, and this was one of the first songs I wanted to learn. Being a beginner, this riff will take months to learn. It's possible, but maybe start with Crash Into Me or Where Are You Going. There is no simple DMB song, but those will actually teach you the basics for his style.

I would encourage you to get back into it. Use davetabs.com and RUclips and you'll learn any DMB song you want. Dave writes some complicated songs just practice practice practice

Cant u feel summer storms with those lyrics? I smell humidity and rain. Its winter time but the words are so powerful that they bring me to a time. I love some dave but music is sometimes too emotional for me so I can't touch it. Im trying to learn the beginning on guitar for an exercise though. Its the right level of complexity that i need to be right now. Its ok to feel sometimes i suppose

This is 1000 times more difficult to play on the guitar that anything Van Halen ever played, especially if you try to sing too.
