lol at everyone saying "get rid of those 90 degree bends and you'll get a better result!" when the whole point is having the wind collected up high to run the turbine on the ground.

In all my years of fabricating headers for my racing engines I have discovered that as long as the header tubes were the same size and all the bends were smooth on the outside radiuses, a bend had no real adverse effect on the air flow. As long as our headers were at approximatly 18 inches in length, they would scavange exhaust pulses very cleanly. Mainly because engine exhaust travels in brusts from the cylinder exhaust port due to firing etc.
I think that had he put a pointed cone inside the center of the fan to direct the air to the outside angled blades smoothly. rather than against the flat center plate, it would have been much more effectient. Plus had the venture been necked down at the fans input hole it would have inscreased the wind speed some as it was dispersed by the center cone. And elliminated the overblast against the side of the fan blade. Air does not like to make flat cornereed turns! But give it smooth outer walls to flow against and you will get much less turbulance.
      But that's just my opinion.

You could put a cone in the Center of the Impeller to help guide the Wind towards the Impeller blades. I guess smashing it on a flat disc is not ideal . Or you could try the Mini- Rose in combination with the Pipe, as it already has a cone in the Center. Or you could take it a step further and create an Impeller-Rose.

Venturi makes air to speed up. In this system is better axial turbine. Put on that pipe some fan for WC venting. If you have radial turbine put air around the sides with some snail like housing. Air can get more speed before it hits that blades. Air can be directed with some little wings. Just like turbine in car.

Idea for a video for the naysayers; the long term generation of miniature power units.
You could politely remind people that even a small measure of power accumulates, and a small turbine like that could easily charge a phone while you are sleeping and otherwise not using it.
Perspective is key. Keep chugging through it mate!

Looks like a solution to what you described in video one.
A cone at roof line that has a tail to make it face the wind.
A 4-6 inch pipe down to ground to turn this design.
I recommend that the end be tapered down to increase the force of the to the turbine intake with a 1-4 mm stand off to suck in ambient air.
Then a capacitor After the generator to take load off the
    turbine/generator.
Looks good for proof of concept. The bigger build will be great.
    Thanks for the post.

Too many people don't understand the concept of proof-of-concept. They want a full solution right off the bat. It's most evident in the views of employers that want people to fix every problem that arises instantly with 100% efficiency and if you can't do it then you failed. It's a real problem.

When you remake the turbine with tighter tolerances, see if you can extend the rotation shaft into the elbow and an adapter, with bering, inside the elbow so as to keep the rotation from tearing it off kilter.

I am wondering what the difference would be it you eliminated the friction losses by removing the 90 degree bends and either used a straight pipe from the collector into the turbine or if you used 45 degree or 22.5 degree bends.

Redirecting the wind certainly has a lot of merit and there are other ways that come to mind well worth considering
Roof ridges and corners of buildings for starters or the plant room itself being the air concentrator
Concentrating the air raising the temp would make heat pumps more efficient set after the turbine would help efficiency and could provide heated ventilation to boot and first stage to air compression for second stage compression for surplus electrical get all that heat baby
I really like this direction 😃

I have seen your funnel and tube were mounted vertically and mounted so that it could rotate so the wind goes in the funnel and is directed down but the funnel had a large fin on it so that it would always face the wind and then mount your favorite wind generator directly under the outlet thus a wind generator where the only thing actually moving in the wind is the funnel

With the fan horizontal and a contoured entry to the orifice to improve the venturi the inlet cone could easily be mounted on a vertical pipe and the cone allowed to self orient to the wind direction with the aid of a vane on the back which would also balance the cone weight.

  • @woodworks2123

Do I need to say it. Get the mini rose on there and give it a bash. Looking at other similar designs, they seem to use a turbine with a very shallow angle, similar to a turbofan turbine or steam turbine. I'd like to make one that the blade angle is adjustable to optimise the power extraction from the wind under different conditions.

I have made a few comments re Venturi effect on previous episode’s. Would you get better results by placing the cone directly in front of the fan. Surely the pipe and bends adds drag, and does the air not loose momentum with a change in direction.

    • @ThinkingandTinkering
      @ThinkingandTinkering  2 года назад

what you say is right mate but the premise here is to get the machinery on the ground where maintenance and installation cost is lower - that of course has a price in efficiency but, in my mind, it is really all about cost per watt generated at the end of the day

  • @Tore_Lund

Hmmm..... Centrifugal impellers need air speed, not so much pressure. I presume without any plumbing it would spin faster? If you want it to be fed by pressure difference, feeding the impeller radially as if it was a Francis turbine, would be worth a try.
