  • OPEN for ingredients! Tom Kha Gai (tom ka kai/tom ka gai/ต้มข่าไก่) is a Thai chicken coconut soup. This is considered one of the more popular soups in Thailand, second only to Tom Yum. Unlike Tom Yum, which is a spicy, sour soup, Tom Kha Gai is a much milder, and creamier soup. Much like Tom Yum, Tom Kha Gai is served as a dish with rice, as opposed to being eaten by itself like a soup.

This is my idea of heaven. I could eat this soup the rest of my life and nothing else. Great version of this classic. I always leave the galangal and lemon grass in the soup when I serve it, but that's a great tip, boiling the aromatics first then skimming them out. Westerners often don't realize you don't actually eat those. Also I leave out all chilis since nobody but me likes it searing hot spicy, and I can always add chilis to my portion.

This is a wonderfull video. I have watched a lot of cooking tutorials on youtube for this specific recipe as it is really one of my favorite soups and I find it hard to get it just right. Your instructions are to the point, you go through all the steps very clearly and show the amount used of each ingredient clearly too. Amazing job!

I can't find fresh Kaffir lime leaves at my Asian market, all they have is dried. So I hope the dried will work 😕

Fresh chicken is so hard to find right now. Can I use duck instead?

Only in America do you boil onions without frying them first a little. Yuk!
