    The trill at the end is not written but somehow while listening to other versions before this, I always felt the trill would be really nice. I am glad he had the same intuition.

      @@pureffm it has nothing to do with proper singing its a cadenza and you can give it your own interpretation its art... and because he is so versatile and is able to do thrills and singing rossini he did this cadenza as is written in the riccordi libretto :)

    Excellent point, about his passagi. Maybe what I should have said is that it's & an instrument you just can't categorize, as discernably baritone vs. tenor, given the relative ease with which he sings either.

    Having heard several HFA recordings of Michael Spyres, the person recording manages to cough in the middle of area on many occasions. Can you either give the person recording throat lozenges or get someone else to record. Coughing is as distracting as a cell phone ringing.

    Remarkable that a baritone should be able to sing tenor, without revealing any signs of same, but if your looking for a different vocal quality, or coloring, which sets him apart from other classically trained singers, you won't find it here.😊

      La salle était peut être mal chauffée ce qui explique ces éternuements ! ! ! Souvent dans les concerts des gens toussent. C'est gênant pour ceux qui apprécient le grand Michael Spyrer.

    • @edraith
      @edraith 6 лет назад +3

      Lol, no.
      If you hear him live, Spyres actually has a very big, powerful voice, full of colours wich he usually keeps down in order to be more agile.
      He could sing as a baritone way better than a lot of our nowadays barkers with those little woofy voices wich can't go up nor down.

    • @edraith
      @edraith 4 года назад +3

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia I don't know, I worked with him and remember a beautiful rossinian baritenore voice with an extremely agile and easy vocal emission in both rossinian tenor high tessitura and in extremely high notes at least up to a High D5 (but he can sing way higher too)
      If he's a baritone (it might be he's actually a high baritone with an inredibly easy vocal emission over his whole range) he's an incredibly talented one with the most easy and agile higher register ever for a baritone!

    • @edraith
      @edraith 4 года назад

      I honestly do not like him in Verdi tho.

    • @edraith
      @edraith 4 года назад +1

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia conoscevo questa sua imitazione, anche io da ragazzo facevo le imitazioni e adoravo imitare Gigli, Siepi, Schipa, Caruso, Bastianini...
      Maybe he is more akin to a baritone than a to a tenor voice but then again he is able to sustain both tessitura and vocal range so why should he not try?
      His vocal range spans roughly from a Baritone Low G2 to a Contraltino Tenor High G5 so anyway that would make him a high baritone with an incredibly extended high range and with an astoundingly easy delivery while singing in tessituras that are way higher than his natural one.
      ^_^

    Bueno.... lamentablemente canta muy bien el Bel Canto, pero no aplica nada de eso a Verdi. Es bien sabido que los grandes cantantes del pasado dotaban a Verdi de un uso belcantista dando asi mas expresion al propio Verdi. EJemplos sobran: Callas, Bjorling, Carreras, etc.... ¿Que les sucede a los cantantes de ópera hoy en dia? Si se abandona completamente la vieja escuela, el canto queda vacio.

      Simpatico tenore ne carne ne pesce, qualcuno ha detto che fisicamente ricorda un po' sua maestà Beniamino Gigli, a livello vocale c'è un abisso tra i due.

  • @zoltanvarga8448

    very clever, but he sings above his male voice and the upper fifth is weaker than that of a true dramatic tenor.

    IMO a very good singer, but his voice doesn't send me. Not particularly distinctive or memorable. Just nothing where one can say that's Spyres! Guess that's what one poster meant by generic. Also, can't really hear him over an orchestra.

      Well, he will be performing in Bayreuth this year twice. He sang Verdi's Requiem with the Berliner under Gatti to high acclaim. He sang with the Met, he was twice awarded last year with the price of best opera sanger etc. Maybe it is just a matter of perception? 😊
