Nah I don't miss Mosley but I miss Bernie now. We need a figure in F1 like Bernie who is a dictator - his attitude is "If you don't like it, fuck off."
Great man a typical french guy smart and concentrated in that what he do the only man who i put before him is Balestre and that's not a joke he did a lot to make F1 more safer despite the pressure from Honda and Senna.
Many people do not like him. But he is a man who achieved a lot of things. And he is loyal to his friends and people close to him. Totally loyal. Whatever happens. And he stays true to his decisions and everything he does. Always. Maximum respect! And one thing that the haters should think about - people who know Jean Todt have such a great respect for him and always tell that he has such a great character...- maybe you should not judge someone you do not know personally...thats, by the way, a good rule for life! Judging somebody without knowing him at all personally is one of the worst things one can do. The decision Todt made as Ferrari Team Director or as a F1 President - thats all political decisions...F1 and FIA even more - it's all about politics! It's obvious that Most people have no idea about how much politics is in F1 and FIA. And Todt is very good in that. Otherwise a Ferrari Team that competitive as from 1997-2006 would Never have been possible. And Ferrari would be in the nowhere if there hadn't been a Jean Todt, a Ross Brawn and a Michael Schumacher. And Jean Todt was crucial for the sucess Brawn&Schumacher put on the track! And i think Todt will bring the F1 in the right direction again. If there is someone who can do it from the side of the reglement - it's Ross Brawn. Ross knows why the F1 is bullshit today and why Fans are leaving more and more. And Todt is the one who can make things work politically. If These two are not able to do it, no one can. Brawn is a genius technically. Todt politically. Thats the Perfect team to do it. And the strongest and best that ever will be there. If it's not possible for Todt and Brawn to do the changes necessary to make F1 attractive again - F1 is soon history and killed by itself and it's political structure.
I have respect for him but some of the decisions he made like asking Rubens Barrichello to give Michael more Championship points was silly. Michael Schumacher didn’t need them. It’s kind of something Ferrari tend to do from time to time. It actually annoys me because its understandable when the championship is on the line with a few races to go, but with almost the whole season left it’s not needed.
Was this recorded at a 1/2 mile oval during an event ? 20+ minutes of this in the background was nearly all i could stand, thankfully it subsided, it was distracting and aggravating. The second heat at 50min or so was slightly less distracting but still annoying, hope this was not dubbed in. In future maybe switch position so as to not pick up the background noise. Thank you in advance.
should’ve asked him if he could have helped Nando win a championship if he was still principal, or what happened when they were trying to get Nando when he was still w Minardi
Thoroughly enjoy your shows. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but most times when people make negative comments about someone, they are uninformed. Jean Todt has done more for Motorsport world wide than all his predecessors put together and I have witnessed it first hand.
I will give you a few. 1) Under his presidency the FIA has made grants available to Motorsport federations for the development of regional Motorsport at grass root level world wide. 2) Regional conferences are now being held once a year with the federations. At the conferences various programs and modules are made available to develop Motorsport. 3) Development Karting programs have been awarded to federations including the karts. 4) Various training programs are run at least 3 times a year in each region for safety, marshals and officials.5) Grants have become available for mobility so that road safety programs can be put into place. Have a look at the # 3 500 lives campaign 6) You can also become a gaming world champion. This was instituted in countries where there is no physical racing taking place. 7) Girls on track . These are just some of the things that have been implemented since he became president. Have a look on the FIA website sometime. The mistake most people make is that they only think of F1, WRC and WEC as being administered by the FIA. The FIA encompasses much more than this and under the presidency of Jean Todt lots has changed benefiting Motorsport world wide. This never happened under the previous presidents.
It’s not a great idea, its very very dangerous when refuelling is in F1, what it could make exciting is to ban the tyre warmers, because a driver is first on his ‘own heated’ tyres from the formation lap, and when he has to pit, he gets new cold tyres, so he has to warm them up, and that could lose him seconds of time, if you look to indycar or the World Endurance Championschip, there aren’t tyre warmers, also F2 didn’t have them, and there we have exciting races, so I say Yes to ban tyre warmers
Regarding the *2021 rules,* Jean Todt needs to tell the teams to *take it or leave it.* If Ferrari threatens to leave the sport as they always do, let them go. More money to go around particularly for struggling teams like *Williams* who could do with the $100M Ferrari get every year just to show up.
You dont realise how a historic manufacturer of the 3 big teams leaving is going to affect the world of f1.Just think before you talk shit about everything.
The point there was that most of the F1 teams are based in the UK - in the M4 corridor - so engineers can usually switch teams without switching houses. Moving to Italy would be a culture shock, apparently!
Jean Todt, thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You have achieved much and it was a pleasure hearing your story from your perspective. I very much appreciate your honesty at 1:06:47 regarding happiness.
The worst thing to have happened to Formula 1. He won’t be missed as a FIA president. He has little regard for the fans. His obsession with political influence ruined Formula 1 to this point.
Completely agreed. How deluded do you have be to approve Bernie's knockout qualifying format? Or trying to bring BACK refuelling? When it took so many years to get rid of it, and the races are objectively improved in terms of on track overtaking since it was banned... The one thing I will praise Todt on (And the only thing) is his efforts with road safety to try and prevent road accidents and deaths; totally noble cause and I can't fault the approach to that, even if it's at the expense of focusing on motorsport. Although his comments that more people die on the roads every year compared to the Paris bombing attacks a few years ago, was deeply insensitive, especially when he said it literally a few days after the attacks took place.
Interesting podcast, though I had hoped JT would be more open. He played it very politically correct, in particular on the Jerez and Jacques Villeneuve incident. As head of FIA and UN ambassador for road safety, I expected him to disapprove of Michael's behaviour back then. As it was 20+ years ago, that's easily done with exactly that explanation (those were different times...but today cannot...). And saying it still happens today without again condemning it baffles me. Also, I was surprised to learn Ph Massa's manager was JT's son when JT himself was still CEO of Ferrari... If this was not a conflict of interest then what is? My point is not to discredit JT, on the contrary, he's been an amazing figure in motorsports, a legend, and has achieved more than many of us can dream of, but I can't understand the above two issues. Tom could have asked a bit more tough questions...then again, if he does that, perhaps people won't be accepting interview invitations... I liked the podcast with Alex Wurz a lot more, that one seemed very genuine with few stones unturned, and I respect Alex a lot for what he achieved. This kind of interviews will keep me being all ears..
When are you going to put an Asian driver or personnel?. So far the Americas, Austrania, Africa, and mostly European drivers. Closest Asian driver is Alexander Albon. What if we don't have Social media Tom Clarckson.
I dont really like him, he and Schumacher were part of and main reason for a very dark period of f1. I dont understand why he just cannot say that the maneuvre from schumacher against villeneuve was just stupid and not fair at all, without any sportsmanship.
Maybe, because unlike you, he have respect for people who worked with. And not burning bridges is why he achieved what he did. And this is coming from someone who isn't a fan.
Thats very naive. Jerez 97 - Jenson Button once said the right words - the only thing wrong about what Michael did was that it has not worked....such incidents always happened and still happen in F1. Hamilton just did something similar to Albon. Its obvious in the onboard. Prost did the same, Senna, Reutemann experienced it, Rosberg....so it very naive to criticise it like that. And the only reason why this is still something people talk about and why it was so controversial is that the leading F1 press is mainly british...its not a coincidence that if a team or driver that the british F1 press likes get away with everything, while others get hardly criticised for similar things. One of the best experiences is Monaco 2006. Ferrari and Schumacher....Rosberg did the same in 2014...but as he drove for a team that is de facto British(Mercedes is located in Brackley and therefore still british)...or all the crashes Hamilton did on purpose...
FIA doesn't make the rules, each code makes its own rules and it is administered by the FIA. Formula 1 with its committee at Liberty are responsible for the rules.
I hope someday the podcast will start with:
“Hi I’m Michael Schumacher and you are listening to beyond the grid.”
If Michael ever makes a recovery he's gotta do one of these
Thought Jean Todt was about to drop the sickest verse in rap history when the beat started at the beginning
Edit: lyrics to his rap are below
He didn't rap but here were the lyrics:
"My name is Jean todt, FIA, everyday,
Grosjean wants to talk, not today, go away
I miss my boy Brawn he brought me trophies brought me joy
Hot wheels wants a sponsor please fuck off we're not a toy
Rewind back to the old-en days
Schumacher used to win at the pace of a laze
Nowadays Hamilton he does the fucking same
But everyone complains, please fuck off he's not to blame
So long story short, 21's where it's at
Regulation changes Ferrari tips their fucking cap
Cos' they have ME to thank for renew-ing their hopes
So grab the opportunity don't make me come back
Come back to the garage to show you the ropes"
