Hi darlings - my GOODNESS I had so much trouble uploading this vlog so thank you for your patience! Hopefully worth the wait 🥰🐻 a cosy home vlog as we weather the storm, and a wonderful long chat with Charlie as he looks back on five years sober. Thank you for watching 🥰🥰🥰
I was bereft at not having the vlog to watch last night. I was concerned that something might have happened so very pleased to hear it was just a technical glitch. Charlie's is so very eloquent and sincere when he explained about his sobriety. As a 66 year old woman who likes a glass or two of wine every night, I know I need to at least cut back on my drinking, not least of all because , despite intermittent fasting, I am finding it hard to lose the weight!
I so appreciate Charlie's humility and transparency and being gracious enough to share his tips on minimizing alcohol. Such a healthy and open discussion which helps to challenge unhealthy societal stigmas and norms.
I remember being teased because I wouldn’t indulge in the workplace. During an event, PANIC! Super opportunity presented itself for the company! CEO grabbed me, we have been offered XXX, you talk to them, you are the only one that is sober, we have been drinking! Joan Armatrading once said WHY WOULD I DRINK? WHILE EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE CROWD, I HAVE WRITTEN TWO ALBUMS, AND BOUGHT ANOTHER HOME. 🏠 BE SMART, STAY SAFE.
My best friend's husband lost 2 brothers to alcohol. One was in his 40s. His other brother had a successful career, wife, kids, and he lost his career and his life to alcohol in his early 60s, about 4 years ago. The devastation it can cause leaves a legacy. He will never meet his grandchildren. So, Charlie, if anyone makes a deal over your non imbibing, then leave them in the rear view mirror.
@@AllsWell77 It also proves that it does not matter how successful one is financially. As my therapist said : the definition of success is to feel right health wise and do what makes you truly happy and bloom without having to feel the need to follow what others do or how they live their lives. @@--M--1111 100%! Whatever path a person chooses to find their joy is their own. I have a cousin who suffers badly with alcohol addiction. When she is sober, you see all of her beautiful true nature underneath. When she is not sober, all of that gets lost in the haze. She is truly one of the most beautiful souls, but has lost her marriage and is alienated from extended family at holiday gatherings. The damage is deep. It is a lonely life.
Just wanted to say huge thanks for Charlie for sharing his journey, feeling and perspective. It takes all of us to change the “excessive drinking” mentality of our society and it’s so refreshing to hear it’s been talked about in a thoughtful and mature manner from someone who’s been through the journey. Huge huge thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Josie and Charlie…thank you my darlings!!! Thank you for being brave and vulnerable enough to discuss this topic. My dad suffered with this disease and I think that if more people had been willing to openly talk like this, he may not have suffered so much. I have so much respect for you both. Dad would have enjoyed watching this with me❤ Thank you.
Thank you Charlie & Josie for sharing your experience with alcohol. It’s so important to hear stories like yours, especially from people who seem to have a perfect life because it shows that struggles with alcohol can affect anyone. Your honesty about being the life of the party one night and the bull the next is something many have experienced themselves or through someone they know. Josie, it would be lovely to hear more about how you navigated that time-so many people in relationships face the fear of not knowing which version of their partner they'll get when drinking, along with the social embarrassment and heartbreak of seeing their loved one act out of character. Thank you both again for being so open. Much Love, Gillian x
Charlie’s talk was so fascinating to listen to. It was great to hear how well he has done and that he has learned so much about himself. Well done to you both, that was a fantastic vlog (in all ways) x
Well done Charlie for your absolute honesty and kudos to you for dealing with it. I think a full video on this topic would be very helpful to a lot of your followers. I don’t have an issue with alcohol but was in a relationship for a long time with someone who did have and it was very hard so well done to you Josie for being supportive its not easy ❤
Thank you so much for sharing Charlie‘s inspiring story! 🙏🏽 What I would also like to hear more about is how you guys have been using the power of manifesting to achieve your personal but also common goals ✨looking forward to the next vlog 😊
Wow, Charlie is such a respectable man. I never heard it explained this way, I really appreciate his take on drinking and not drinking. Lifestyles changes, etc.
I find Charlie talking about his experience with alcohol so interesting, I would love to see a full sit down video one day! It's a topic I find myself thinking about a lot when I'm out or talking to others currently that are going through dry January.
I have an added respect and a great deal of appreciation for you. We all have our struggles, so no one has the right to judge another. As a 64 year old mother of 5 grown children, I so appreciate you sharing this with us. Keep up the positive outlook and you will continue to see great things coming your way. Please allow me to say that I love both you and Josie, and I certainly learn quite a bit from you guys.
Fantastic video as always Josie - I love these cosy Vlogs. Can you please keep on doing them even when it'a Summer!!! Total respect for Charlie opening up the way he did. It's so easy to overdo drinking especially when you're with your drinking buddies. Lockdown was pretty bad and I remember drinking way too much and it definitely wasn't good for my mind, body and waistband! I"m entering February and pretty much doing what Charlie suggests - cutting down during the working week but I enjoy wine at the weekends. Thankfully the less you drink, the less your body can cope with it - so that helps. I look forward to hearing more from Charlie. You are a fabulous couple and I so much enjoy you both. Keep on cooking please - both of you and share your recipes. Love and peace to you both xxx
Love Charlie so much for his morals and humility. Never criticising but always humble and speaking the truth. If I was an alcoholic, I would stop drinking after listening to what he had to say.
God bless you Charlie for healthy choices and discipline. My husband was alcoholic for many years before he got wise and stopped with God’s help, Lots of prayers and discipline. So important for you to share your successful life choices with others.
Well done Charlie on 5 and a half years sober. I've just completed Dry January and I'm planning on going for a year without having a drink, just because I'fancy the challenge and I'm trying to be more mindful about how I treat my body as I get older. I was listening to a podcast the other day and I heard that 28% of our young adults are alcohol free which is really encouraging.
Big hugs to you from the snow in Iceland..Love your vlog so much. So good to hear from Charlie and so helpful for so many who are struggeling. Thank you.
I am 10 years sober. No issues, but alcoholism runs in my family and seeing it firsthand scared me. I applaud Charlie speaking so candidly about this subject. I’m at the point where I openly state I don’t drink alcohol without giving a reason. I have other issues to confront in 2025 and welcome the positivity of your channel.
Spending a cozy day with you both . . . how lovely! I always appreciate your integrity, authenticity & down to earth approach to your journey! I always learn such interesting things! 🤗💪🙏🏻
Amazing. Congratulations Charlie - really fantastic and a real inspiration to young men (and women) everywhere. Thank you for your honesty. Gorgeous vlog as always.
Very well said Charlie I hubby listened to what you was saying about alcohol and he was exactly the same and gave up drink. This struck a cord with him and me as a partner of someone who just simply doesn't suit alcohol you keep speaking you're truth 10/10
Dexter & Dickens make me smile so hard - they are just the sweetest! Love the garden joy! Enjoy joining you on your trips to London. How superb! Thank you for sharing! 🐶🐶
Thank you Charlie for your honesty truly inspirational and I will be looking out for your story and journey on your channel. Love and best wishes to you both and of course the little ones ❤❤❤
Charlie's sharing about his sobriety journey is so valuable! I quit drinking a few years back just cause I found I got nothing out of it, and I agree the stigma can be so frustrating sometimes! People can be so judgemental and it's frustrating having to defend yourself...I think the more we discuss it the more this stigma goes away :)
This was such a wonderful video. I loved hearing Charlie's perspective on quitting alcohol . I always wondered about that. I'm in no means an alcoholic, but I have been wanting to quit drinking all together to see if it makes a difference in my health journey. Charlie just inspired me to go forth with my decision. Thank you Charlie! Love you both! God bless you both!
Gorgeous outfits on your trip to London. Your fur babies are looking divine with their healthy food and snacks. Thank you Charlie for your honesty and Congratulations on your journey of no alcohol. Yummy banana bread muffins. I can totally relate to chopping onions and veg and I have started to freeze mine also, more convenient that way. Lasagna looks delicious. Thank you for sharing. ❤
Charlie, kudos to you for your honesty. Binge drinking is most definitely an issue in the states as well. There is an easy answer to abstaining if someone questions you - just saying you are allergic to alcohol and it makes you very sick. No more explanation needed.
Thanks SO much to Charlie for is openness & honestly re: his "journey". He's such a gem❤ I think we all have someone in our families that are struggling in one way or another with alcohol/addictions😥Segway....that Lasagna looks amazing!!!
Well done Charlie ❤ 5 years is amazing . Having a dear friend who is a alcoholic and now in liver failure, people do not realise it’s a disease! You really are a kind thoughtful and honest person ❤
First of all, I must say you are very down to earth and real. This is the first time I have commented, I am very glad that you have addressed this issue about drinking and I’m glad your husband has shared his struggles and I APPLAUD him. I hope you have young followers and they can see it’s cool to be sober.
Well done to Charlie for sharing your journey regarding alcohol x I lost family members( professionals ) due to alcohol 😟issues x & As a health care professional I’ve seen so much suffering regarding alcohol issues x It’s So so sad xx
I usually forward on when Charlie appears in you vlogs, as I have never taken to him as always felt he speaks over you, today I actually didn't, and listened to what he had to say. I am practically alcohol free apart from at Christmas time and feel incredible for it. Long may his abstinence continue 💪🙌
I agree with Charlie. Giving up something should be done when YOU feel ready to do so and at your own timing-that is the only way you will succeed and stick to it. Some people whether it is quitting drinking, smoking etc, cannot taper down, they have to do so cold turkey and never go back to it. Others need to taper down, it is down to the individual and their personality. I salute Charlie for quitting and still having booze around him--WELL DONE!
Thank you so much to Charlie for the open and refreshing chat about alcohol, and to you both for the honest comments regarding conflict it has presented in the past for your relationship. This is such relatable content and so appreciated. I find the wider movement to being alcohol free that we're seeing now both energising and fascinating. I have never enjoyed alcohol and it has ironically made my life much harder and more lonely. I have struggled with forming friendships, family relationships, dating, romantic relationships and networking for my career. This new direction with alcohol is one positive in the world that gives me hope for the future for my 12 month old daughter. I will certainly be keeping my eyes peeled for Charlies video on this. Xxx
Well done Charlie! Loved to hear all of your tips for transitioning to a freer/healthier life without alcohol. And a very special shout out to Josie as well. As someone who was partnered with an individual who had an alcohol problem, I know all too well how taxing that can be on the partner. Great job, both!
I remember watching one of your vlogs from years ago Josie where you were crying. Charlie was out having drinks and you openly talked about the impact it was having. Every time I hear Charlie mention drink it reminds me of that vlog and how it is equally damaging to the partner at home worried. Really proud of Charlie for being so open here. Might even be his best speech to date❤ Here’s to many happy years enjoying Guinness 00 (but as a proud Irish person, Guinness should never be served from a can. Shame on Twickenham Stadium 😂)
I really enjoyed hearing Charlie’s journey with alcohol. My Dad passed away due to alcoholism 2 years ago so it’s something I always think about. I drink most weekends and it’s becoming much more of a habit than it used to be but like Charlie says I never wake up and need it. More of an evening or weekend thing. I have tried doing dry January but haven’t succeeded so would love to hear more from him xx
Charlie, thank you for sharing your journey so eloquently. You are an inspiration! The US surgeon General has issued a health warning of the cancer risks of alcohol. You are ahead of the curve. I would enjoy any alternative / mocktail recipes you have.
May God keep you both healthy you are to be commended for all your courage to stand up and admit that life has its ups and downs and not everything one sees it’s perfect but never the less they are people who learned from the past it’s a wonderful thing to see a young man like Charlie doing good and sharing his experiences with others thank you be proud of yourselves big or small it’s life
Congratulations, Charlie, on 5 years sober. My husband is 5+ years as well. He quit cold turkey as he had a problem. He went to AA with his buddy; neither is religious, but he found that that was helpful when you broke off with fellow people in the group to chat. He hasn't gone in a couple of years, as he has focused on Scuba Diving. I had incredible parents; both were alcoholics. My father had significant accomplishments, but I was most proud of him for his 50 years of sobriety. BTW, addictions can be familiar; I never drank. Everyone has their own journey, but a vlog on your channel would be very useful.
Charlie you are so authentic, thank you for being you.. My father and uncle died of alcohol years ago. Because of growing up with alcohol all around me i chose never to decades ago.
Hellebores are so beautiful - Christmas roses are so healthy and love the cold and I add to them every year as they are so cheering. Primroses too and violets will be out soon along my river bank. Blackthorn blossom soon out too and hazel catkins have been gorgeous.
I buy frozen chopped onion and it’s so cheap and no more tears. Also I buy a tube of crushed garlic and store in fridge for when there’s little time or no fresh garlic on hand.
I very much loved the mini alcohol free chat, and look forward to Charlies full video. As A very light drinker and a partner that struggles with addiction I find these conversations very eye opening and helpful! Hearing people's stories and advice they give helps people create empathy for others, and selfishly the more it's normalized the less people will nagg me about not drinking?
I’ve never cared for alcoholic beverages and it’s truly easier to order tasty mocktails that are healthy and thirst quenching. I love that you’re being open & honest about your journey of taking better care of yourself, Charlie.
Congratulations on your journey Charlie. My husband is an alcoholic and has been sober for over 40 years now. He said after he was sober that "one beer was too many and 40 wasn't enough". Some friends were lost after he got sober, but that is okay. However, he is in a much better place. When he is asked "would you like a drink?" He just says, "no, I am an alcoholic and I have been sober for a very long time.". I am so proud of him. Well done. You are so right, talking about it can and does help people in the same position. That is a great thing!
Hello josie lovely cosy vlog can't get enough of your up loads 😊..so brave and honest of charlie to talk about his past addiction! Have a lovely day my lovely xxxx❤

Really commendable - Charlie thank you for your honesty. Good bloke 👍
So many indicators coming from the hierarchy in health, that alcohol is not good news. Quite a journey Charlie.
I think it’s wonderful that Charlie is going to share his no alcohol journey. He should be very proud of himself👍🏼
I so appreciate Charlie's humility and transparency and being gracious enough to share his tips on minimizing alcohol. Such a healthy and open discussion which helps to challenge unhealthy societal stigmas and norms.
Almost a year alcohol free and hearing Charlie talking about this is so vulnerable and I appreciate him, so much.
Good for you, sending a hug.
Very interested in Charlie story. Very kind of him to share ❤ I’m sure everyone will appreciate his journey 😊

Good testimony from Charlie. Me homeless 7 years drinking. Completely stopped 25 years now.

Charlie! Best contribution ever! So many of us turning down alcohol to protect our health. Thanks for the assist!!

May God keep you both healthy you are to be commended for all your courage to stand up and admit that life has its ups and downs and not everything one sees it’s perfect but never the less they are people who learned from the past it’s a wonderful thing to see a young man like Charlie doing good and sharing his experiences with others thank you be proud of yourselves big or small it’s life
Well done Charlie , very inspiring
Congratulations Charlie
As always a wonderful vlog. Thank you for the inspiration!
Respect to Charlie! I love his honesty I love how real and himself he is ❤
Charlie you are so authentic, thank you for being you.. My father and uncle died of alcohol years ago. Because of growing up with alcohol all around me i chose never to decades ago.
Thank you so much for sharing Charlie it's super helpful for my hubby and I.. such great honest and realistic advice xx
This was the least preachy Charlie talk I’ve seen. Actually enjoyed it. Good on you Charlie 👍🏻
Got to say well done Charlie! We’ll look forward to seeing that video.
Charlie you’re amazing! ❤
