I've had my 2007 Dodge Nitro for 12 years and it's one of the toughest, strongest, most dependable trucks or SUV that I have ever had. I have 195,000 miles on it and it still pulls like a tractor and accelerates strongly. I used it just recently to haul a 16ft long 7ft high trailer full of furniture and it did great! I think I really was pushing the limits of my Nitro, but my F150 was not available and Mom's Ford Escape was too weak. The Nitro is very powerful and it's just the right size, not too big and not too small. I can't say enough about the 4.0 liter V6 except that it's a great engine. One down side: it is a rough ride, the suspension is pretty stiff.

I love my 2011 Nitro! I just recently got in an accident where the other car rear ended me and crumpled like a piece of paper and the Nitro (compared to the other car) barely suffered. I wiilllll agree that the suspension sucks but, other than that- it’s a really good vehicle!
The main thing that killed the Nitro was the economy, Dodge simply released this at the wrong time (same for the Chrysler Aspen and 1st gen. Pacifica). Had this same truck (maybe with a better interior) came out 3-5 years ago when the economy started stabilizing and people started buying SUV's and CUV's like crazy, they would sell every Nitro they made.
If you'd gotten the turbo diesel in the US, it would be a very different story - that things a rocket ship. One French Dyno tune mob has them making 500+ Nm

artsy fartsy stuff for pre 08 dodge id say yes but after 08 and the fiat buyout they’ve gone down way in quality *edit* even before, they’ve had plenty of recalls only rivaled by gm
Awesome quality. I have 3 Nitros with 3.7 V6, 4 speed auto trans, 4WD. Unlike most cars, the engine is easy to work on. Acceleration is adequate, especially for safe heavy 4wd vehicles. Overall construction is simple and durable. Gas mileage is surprisingly good, especially on highway. Handling is excellent for an SUV. Nitro corners well and feels tight when driven. Braking is also excellent. Transmissions have held up well. I have done trans oil changes every 60000 miles. Important to use ATF+4. Interior is comfortable. Unlike most cars, controls are not complicated. No, the Nitro is not a Jeep Wrangler or a Hummer. If you want severe off-roading capability, you will pay a lot more than the cost of a Nitro. Nitro are made to pull you out of mud or snow when you need them to. I think the author's words on the cancellation reflect unfamiliarity with the Nitro. Nitro was released when Chrysler was going through bankruptcy after being treated as a cash cow by Mercedes Benz and during a severe sales downturn because of the inflated gas prices forcing the US economy into recession. Chrysler was recovering from bankruptcy during the Nitro's entire production run. Bankruptcy did not allow updating the Nitro to the new Pentastar V6, which offered significantly more horsepower and torque. Chrysler allocated its resources elsewhere. This bad marketing decision spelled the demise of a great SUV. With promotion, marketing, and a new V6, the Nitro would have lasted many years to come based on it's awesome styling. Also, the author mentions the Dodge Journey, which is made in Mexico. It is unfortunate that Chrysler decided to sacrifice American jobs in Toledo OH for Mexican jobs. I think a low mileage Nitro is a good buy, especially in comparison to today's ugly rolling blobs/SUVs that are now mandated by CAFE regs and resulting styling sacrifices in favor of aerodynamics.
13 years too late lol. Luckily I got mine 13 years ago. Still turns heads and people ask what year is it, I say 2007 and they are shocked. The design will forever be timeless. The interior can be converted to suit needs same as power but the looks needs no help at all. I love my Nitro.
@@dosirlgaming exactly what I say!! My mom has had her black 2010 nitro slt 4.0L 4x4 since 2011 when she bought it basically new. My whole family still drives it everyday and it’s been very good vehicle for us. I may end up buying it from my mom when she gets a new car, I would love to throw some bigger gloss black rims on it and lower the suspension. Most people want to raise them up and put some rugged off road tires on theirs, but I rarely go off road, and when I do it’s only on gravel/dirt roads. I want to make it low and slick with nice wheel fitment. It wouldn’t be so bouncy and it would handle better on turns. Looking forward to it!
I remember my parents friend buying one of these new when I was a kid. I even got to ride in that car. I actually didn’t like the styling outside, but I thought the interior was cool. Little things impress can you if you’re kid. Electric seats and touchscreen radio really did it to me. That Nitro was EU spec with the 2.8CRD diesel engine. Having an American car in Finland is always little bit more special, but they were fairly common. Dodge was in top 20 most sold car brands along with Chevy and Chrysler. I think it was dumb for them to leave Europe and only have Jeep here. Mopars always sold relatively well in Finland.
Awesome ! Have you had to replace any parts? I'm in NZ and looking at purchasing one, there's only 280 nitros in NZ, wondering about accessing parts when/if I need too.
Through watching your videos i realized that Dodge really dont give their products a chance , they simply introduce a product and wait for it to either succeed or fail without trying to improve it or providing newer models with facelifts , corrections etc ..

I have a 2011 Dodge Nitro SXT with the 3.7L V6 engine I bought it with 4,127miles on it in July of 2012 It was a demonstrator at a N.J. dealership It has been a gem of a vehicle. It currently has 111,212 miles and I just replaced the water pump, thermostat, upper and lower radiator hoses, idler wheel and the tensioner, and the serpentine belt. This past June 2022 I drove it across country to Seattle, Wa. I got 33mpg on I-90 at 81mph. I love my Nitro and I'll have it until it fall apart or I pass on, I'm 77 y.o., thanks for your great tribute video to the Nitro. 👍
I actually like the look and it has aged remarkably well. Just found out a sibling in another State owns one, has owned it for close to 7 years and LOVES it!
Love mine...bought the 4.0 L R/T and have no issues with it. Other than tires, and recently replacing the radiator and thermostat...it has been really economical. As far as gas milage... since I drive on the highway alot I don't struggle with gas mileage.....but local driving would definitely burn a ton of gas in this one.
Have had mine since new 2008, love it! never let me down even in -30 degree winter days lots of snow, and only ran all season tires and no problem. Have also used it to tow my sxs on a trailer through the mountains with no problem what so ever. Try doing that with a front wheel drive suv or some of the newer suv's now. Pretty solid for towing got to say, only have 160,000km on mine so guess I'll be good for a while as long as I service it regularly.
This was actually my dream car when I was in fourth grade in 2007. I loved the boxy and rugged styling of this car! Also, the second gen Jeep Liberty that shared this platform looked so much better than the boring rounded first gen. I think it's a pretty cool car to this day. It's just too bad the ones I see still on the road are beat to death with high miles and driven by careless owners who could give two shits about their car.
I just bought a 2007 4x4 Nitro and it is amazing! I absolutely love driving it. We also have journey and I prefer the Nitro. It really needs to be revamped.
I love my Nitro!! 180000 miles and still going strong. It is also cheap and easy to fix for the most part. Not that great on gas but is a great family vehicle. Off road, maybe not, but handles very well on shitty Wisconsin roads in the middle of the winter with ice and snow on the ground.
i am absolutely inlove with this suv , and i highly consider getting me one , they should bring it back with better features inside, but the outside overall boxy look is dope.
I have been over all kinds of terrain with my Nitro. Wider stance makes for better stability compared to the Liberty. It has held up over time and comfortable for long trips.
I actually love my 2007 Nitro. My only issue with the design is there's no key holes anywhere accept the driver's side door. It would've been helpful if the front passenger and trunk had a key hole like most other vehicles.

I now have a 2016 Subaru Forester that is nice but it looks like everybody else's car and also a freaking station wagon (and I hate station wagons! I thought I could get over it but I can't). Dodge/Chrysler are very hit or miss. For every cool car they make, they release crap. Very Jekyll and Hyde company. The same company that gave us the ram trucks, charger, challenger, magnum, and 300c gave us the caliber, patriot, and compass.

It’s 2020 and I just bought an 08 from my neighbor and I love it. Have had no problems!!!
I love my Nitro! this guy sounded like he had ill/negative feelings for the Nitro from the beginning. just saying.
I'm looking to buy the 2007 Nitro.
Is it worth it ??? It has 150,000mi on the vehicle I'm thinking abt purchasing!
@@BwaKay3 hi, when I bought mine it had around 170,000 miles on it. I've had it for about a year. The only thing I've had to do to it is replace the heater core which was bad at the time of purchase. Other than that I've had no problems. I love it honestly. The 4×4 in it is a life saver although I live in Montana lol and also have a Mitsubishi eclipse that I was driving before hand so it was alot different battling these roads. Not to mention I have 20 inch rims with low profile tires. I'm sure it would be even better when 4x4 is needed with logical winter tires :) it has quite a bit of room inside which is very helpful and looks wise, like I said, i love it! Hope that helped out some.
@@shonnao7272 Sounds like you have the R/T, by far the best one (better engine, transmission, suspension, wheels & tires).
Do you think it would be a good first car ?
@@TaniyahLanay
Yes, I think it would be a great first car. Easy to drive plus very accommodating when it comes to various road conditions.
I love my nitro...it's the second one I've owned...mine has 225k miles and still runs great and has lasted through Wisconsin winter's!!! I love the design... I'm just going to keep buying the used ones
I love my 2007 Nitro, dealers call me all the time trying to get me to sell. I love everything is modular and easy to upgrade and repair on your own., I add side rails, chrome kit all around and updated head unit with a nice after market system with read camara, may be old, but it's still turning heads. 130k miles and still running and looking good.
Dude i have same issue here in Indiana they was trying get me trade 😂 and told me they usually sell em round 6200 on finance and told me if they sell it on their lot they wpuld asl 5600
I love my 2011 Nitro! I just recently got in an accident where the other car rear ended me and crumpled like a piece of paper and the Nitro (compared to the other car) barely suffered. I wiilllll agree that the suspension sucks but, other than that- it’s a really good vehicle!
Thanks for that piece of information that was the answer I was looking for
So did the transmission hold up after that?
The main thing that killed the Nitro was the economy, Dodge simply released this at the wrong time (same for the Chrysler Aspen and 1st gen. Pacifica). Had this same truck (maybe with a better interior) came out 3-5 years ago when the economy started stabilizing and people started buying SUV's and CUV's like crazy, they would sell every Nitro they made.
If you'd gotten the turbo diesel in the US, it would be a very different story - that things a rocket ship.
One French Dyno tune mob has them making 500+ Nm
that I can very much agree cuz my money is going towards gas than anything else
The Nitro will have a dedicated cult following like the Pontiac Aztek 💰💰💰🍻

@@TaniyahLanay Yes, I believe I had a very dependable truck in my Nitro. Unfortunately my baby was tired and ended up needing a whole new engine. I had her for 10 years and just now giving me issues like this, but I wholeheartedly adored mines. I ended up retiring her this past August, I got my childhood dream car. So, yeah.... Good truck for me!🤷🏾♀️💜💯
I have 2011 Nitro Heat and I absolutely love it! It’s cargo space is useful and can be filled to the top, unlike the more rounded SUV’s. It’s reliable, fun to drive and handles great in all weather. I can even camp in it!
They for sure need to bring this back!
I had a 2010 nitro and it was fantastic. my favorite dodge car!
I think this is a very underrated car Dodge made. My dad used to drive one of these.
I have a 2008 RT, and absolutely love it. I have absolutely no intentions of getting rid of it. I love teh look, I love the handling and I love the solid feel to it.
i bought a 2007 nitro long ago for my wife , when she passed away i drove it sometimes to keep the battery charged i found myself driving it more and more , it's actually a nice little car and never gives me trouble .
Dodge styling team is pretty dope, but the unreliability of their vehicles is the down fall.
And the build quality is just rated as low as ultra econoboxes....
Owed a nitro for seven years bought new brake pads and rotars, tyers and engine oil... filter. Etc..... nothing broken.
Cal McI u were lucky. lots of dodges in the 00’s and 10’s have mechanical issues. old foresters and outbacks curb stomp nitros reliability and styling
@@ethandodd8493 no dodge has made some pretty reliable rides. my ex husbands dodge raider easily turned 300,000 and then some. dodge sent him a gift certicicate for sharing his story. stay up on oil changes and maintenance needed and you're dodge will be good to you! I see many people with dodges over 250,000 - 300,000 on theirs!
artsy fartsy stuff for pre 08 dodge id say yes but after 08 and the fiat buyout they’ve gone down way in quality *edit* even before, they’ve had plenty of recalls only rivaled by gm
I love the styling. Mpg and interiors have never been Chrysler’s strong point lol. I do fine these pretty bad ass looking though
Since you did this car. you should do it's sister car the jeep Liberty, if you haven't already.
I love my Nitro, I named her Barbara Jean 😂😂 she is old, with high miles and very reliable. I just wish my brake lights would stop burning out.
If I ever had a dodge nitro, I would call it Abraham Lincoln. !
Because the front of the car looks like Abraham Lincoln. !
Say what ya want .... I love mine !

13 years too late lol. Luckily I got mine 13 years ago. Still turns heads and people ask what year is it, I say 2007 and they are shocked. The design will forever be timeless. The interior can be converted to suit needs same as power but the looks needs no help at all. I love my Nitro.

Through watching your videos i realized that Dodge really dont give their products a chance , they simply introduce a product and wait for it to either succeed or fail without trying to improve it or providing newer models with facelifts , corrections etc ..
the company getting plundered by Daimler, then changing hands a number of times. all bc not enough ppl were wise enough to buy their vehicles in the 80's-90's.

It has been a gem of a vehicle.
Had one of these for 5 years, it's performed very well, would buy another if they where available
Currently have my 4.0 love it though I do seem to spend a lot of time and money making repairs. Also wish they gave this thing a hemi

My nitro is smooth as butter.. and I’m very satisfied with it.. I’ve only had to do regular maintenance on it.. 💯💯💯
i am absolutely inlove with this suv , and i highly consider getting me one , they should bring it back with better features inside, but the outside overall boxy look is dope.
I have been over all kinds of terrain with my Nitro. Wider stance makes for better stability compared to the Liberty. It has held up over time and comfortable for long trips.
I like my dodge but lately it’s been bugging me with repairs out of the blue.... 🤦🏽♀️ now I’m ready to let go
I love my nitro .
It never gives me trouble , 225,000 km. so far .

I actually love my 2007 Nitro. My only issue with the design is there's no key holes anywhere accept the driver's side door. It would've been helpful if the front passenger and trunk had a key hole like most other vehicles.

I own a 2007 Nitro 4 wheel drive. I bought it used in 2011. To this date I love my nitro. I haven’t had any issues still runs great. Wish they made an updated one.

@utopiadeferred ..a Jeep with diff sheetmetal is a what now? Jeeps aren't crap, in case you haven't noticed.
I bought a 2007 used Nitro R/T pkg and when I took it for an inspection my mechanic was impressed. I had it for 5 years when I started having alot of problems with it so I traded it in. Now I regret that decision because I miss my Nitro. I LOVED the look of that car. I now have a 2016 Subaru Forester that is nice but it looks like everybody else's car and also a freaking station wagon (and I hate station wagons! I thought I could get over it but I can't). The Nitro stood out. All the suv's now look the same.
I don't think any company in recent history has canceled as many cars as Dodge/Chrysler
Dodge/Chrysler are very hit or miss. For every cool car they make, they release crap. Very Jekyll and Hyde company. The same company that gave us the ram trucks, charger, challenger, magnum, and 300c gave us the caliber, patriot, and compass.
because dodge/Chrysler is garbage
My wife and I love our 2011 Shock Nitro(8-1-2022) we’ve traveled all over the country in it and it’s one of the most comfy vehicles we’ve ever owned. In fact, that’s why we’ve kept it.
The killer for us is the gas mileage is horrible! Highway drive is barely tolerable and plummets around town. This day and age it has us seriously considering getting something more fuel efficient for sure!

I bought a 2007 Nitro in 2009 with a 3.7 litre engine, 4 x 4. It has been great to this very day. Currently has 230,000 miles and it still looks good inside and out. I have taken very good care of it like all of my vehicles. I have zero complaints about this vehicle and look forward to many more miles of driving enjoyment.
