    I love how historically authentic all of your videos feel. You've convinced me to reinstall IL-2 1946, have an updoot and sub :)

    The Fw-190 wasn’t called the “Butcher Bird” for nothing! 🇩🇪👍

    What skill, a fast approach, a short shot but all the shots go to the goal and shoot down each bomber! Especially with the approach from behind the bomber who succumbs to a short shot of the hood machine guns!
    But where are the other FW 190 ?? Very frustrating the big moment of loneliness trying to escape the two P-47D !!

    another very good video, Fishyyy! Congrats! But trying to escape Thunderbolts with an "Abschwung" it's kinda suicidal (as many Jagdflieger found to their cost...). anyway, very brave!

    I honestly thought from the thumbnail that it was going to be a ground attack mission considering the the Wulf's bomb rack.

    • @Fishyyy
      @Fishyyy  6 лет назад +3

      I think it's funny that you noticed the bomb rack but missed the bomber formation ;D
      The A-8 just always comes with the bomb rack.

      Fishyyy well who's got time to mention the bomber formation when the Wulf has a bomb rack! :D

      Yes, it's an A-8. The A-8s just have that bomb rack, no matter what armament you chose.

    • @nickmitsialis
      @nickmitsialis 6 лет назад +1

      I think they used it for drop tanks as well.

    • @sd501st5

      The bomb rack was fixed on the A-8, 20cm further forward than it was mounted on earlier models. The reason for this was to correct a problem with the center of gravity(CoG) shifting ever further aft with later Fw 190 A models, because they kept adding things(better radios, radio direction finder, armor etc.) on top of and behind the Center of Lift(CoL, roughly behind the mid-point of the wings). The fixed bomb rack shifted some weight forward, compensating a bit... and since the A-8's usually flew with drop tanks, it was not a problem.
      If you have the CoL behind the CoG, you have a problem... when the plane enters a stall, instead of the desired behaviour of the nose wanting to drop, the planes tail starts to drop instead... and that's the beginning of a flatspin. And entering a flatspin with a plane where the nose wants to go up and the tail wants to go down all the time is unrecoverable... a death sentence if you don't have at least 1km altitude below you to bail out.
      For example, this was a severe issue on the P-39 Airacobra, mainly because of its mid-mounted engine and the weight in the nose decreasing when the 37mm cannon was fired(the gun and ammo were designed to be the counterweight to the engine, but when the ammo is expended, well... a "small" design oversight), although the Soviets who came to love this plane were used to the I-16, which was a handful to fly in any case, so they were used to worse things(and the Soviets actually worked with Bell, the manufacturer of the Cobra to mitigate this problem). Unlike the US pilots who absolutely despised it.
      The P-51D also had this issue if the rear fuselage tank was filled... so they used up that tank first in the climb and the way to the rendevouz point with the bombers. Same thing for the Fw 190 in all models from the A-5 onwards, too. The rear fuselage tank was used up first, even before the drop tanks.
      The first of these corrective measures can be seen between the A-4 and A-5 models. The A-5 has a slightly longer nose, the engine is mounted further forward than in earlier models.
      The Fw 190D finally fixed that problem because of the lengthened nose its inline engine required, and the emtpy section between the tail and the rear fuselage. The horizontal stabilizers on which the elevators are mounted produce lift as well, which is the reason why the CoL isn't right on the wings but behind it. Shifting that further aft without adding weight shifts the CoL a little further aft, which is the reason why this helped.
      Well, that got a little longer than I intended it to be... sorry, I get a bit carried away talking about the Fw 190. ^^

    Wow, way to easy to shoot down the bombers!

    • @Fishyyy
      @Fishyyy  6 лет назад +1

      Actually, you only needed a few hits with the mk108s in reality, too. Three hits usually were enough to bring a heavy down.

    • @TomJones-lg9dd
      @TomJones-lg9dd 6 лет назад +3

      Fishyyy
      But in reality a top ace barely managed to bring down one heavy in combat sortie. Thus the designers sacrificed realism for entertainment which is okay. But going into a real b 17 or b24 formation was extremely hazardous and multiple passes were required to bring a heavy down. There is no German ace who bought down three or more heavies in a single sortie

      I don't give flying fuck about you or your meaningless threats. I have detroyed better men with a glance. Do yourself a favour and buzz off. I don't waste my precious and sweet time on brainless fools who think they can defeat me. The meaning of defeat is death, I know it, do you? Fishyyy knows it, but he's not concerned with it, like me. You don't concern us, you're down there while we're up here.

      We took of with 8 190s. We got attacked by 16 Mustangs, at which point it became chaotic. My wingman was with me until 17:50, where you can see him beeing attacked by Thunderbolts.

      It kind of surprised me that you didn’t turn back to defend your wingman... I remember Hartmann commenting that the only time when he felt he failed, was when he lost a wingman.
