Advice from a 60 year old who now has health issues. DO ALL YOU CAN WHILE YOU CAN! Even if you have to go and experience places on a tight budget, just go and do what ya can!
Class of 23 had it rough! I just watched a woman’s post hiking the AT and that river you had a time with was a wide creek! ‘23 was rain soaked year up there. As far as the other stuff, Live and Learn, be better prepared for next go around.
A trick I have learned that helps. One - my husband always tells me - whatever is going on - it’s about your perspective, and bc I am a believer, I always ask - “God - what is the lesson in this?” Even when it stinks I make myself see the good. Like well I am stuck in the mud - but I am not dead. And I can walk, etc. All this to say - I think you do a wonderful job at staying real AND positive! I love your channel, and thoroughly enjoyed this trip! Hi to the kitty and Smoke too!
I love a milk stout. When I was the chef at an Irish pub we did a beer pairing dinner with a local brewery. They made us a firkin of a custom imperial milk stout to serve with my dessert course, a Blondie topped with Samuel Smith's Double Chocolate Stout Ice Cream. Phenomenal beer.
Mattie I so wish I was a better word smith to compliment your style of flogging .. your openness & empathy to exude in your commentary . Fifteen years ago I would never have considered your vocation. But I shared you journey on the Appalachian Trail hike 2023 and I was hooked on your honesty, your empathy and your ability to express your emotions negative about yourself and your endeavor. In a day that we have so much controversial programming on public broadcasting TV and radio you are so refreshing to hearthat I care about what you do in your life actually help me my life. You should be very proud and you should know your. God bless you and please keep posting.❤😊
Thank you so much, Tom! That really means a lot to hear that. I appreciate hearing specifically what you enjoy so I know what to keep doing, and it's always encouraging to hear that I'm making a difference to someone. I will definitely keep on going!
You have grown so much since the start of this channel. Your experiences have taken you on a wild journey of discovery of this country but also of yourself.Look how smart you are! I’m so proud of you.
We took a 61 day trip hauling a small trailer from Maine on Easter for about 11,000 miles in the US and Canada. A good time but probably a little to long for 70 year olds. Travel safe.
Hate that you ran into troubles but you handled them all well. And most importantly you made the best out of each adventure! Looking forward to seeing the next road trip!
I totally understand about forgetting the sleeping bag. I forgot mine on my last trip, for the same reason, I do not store it with the rest of my backpacking equipment.
the best time in arizona is september to may with december to february being the coldest months. june through august is miserable here. Avoid those months!! Great videos!
You are such a good speaker, Maddie. I loved this recap. Don't forget to pat yourself on the back for the coping skills and grit you earned thru hiking the AT. You managed the variables on this trip like a pro. 😊 You're going to NH this fall?! I'm there almost once a month. I'm just over the border in Maine. The Kancamagus Highway is a must for leaf peeping. 👍 Take care Ranger and Smoke! ✌️
I had to laugh when you said forgot sleeping bag, as I did that before. I ended up going to Costco for an inexpensive one. I always seem to forget the most obvious item. You have a good story to tell later, right!! ;) Yeah that heat can really suck, unless you are going up in elevation it's just too hot in a vehicle. I was in CA and NV in July it was just horribly hot. Good things to learn for the next time, glad you got out there. Hope you get to see some Fall colors on your next travels.
Going back to New Hampshire, in October? By coincidence, we're going to New Hampshire, in October, as well. We've been going there for so long that we've made more than a few local friends in the region. Check your e-mail for the particulars. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
Always look forward to your videos and your adventures...I'm soon going to try to Knobstone in IN at the end of the month...any tips or tricks for the KT?

You can also put the wet washer on the fan and have the cool air blow on you that way, or attach frozen bottles of water on the fan itself...
Whoa!! Great idea!
