    What's YOUR favourite focal length for street? 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 85mm

    • @veresdenialex
      @veresdenialex 11 месяцев назад +3

      35mm is a classic for me. Perfect balance in creating an intimate scene, while also keeping some distance. 50mm would be the most I would go for street photography, and I usually use it for detail oriented photography. More about the gestures, or feelings revealed by the subject

      Can’t wait to see more content with your 3x!
      I love both 28 and 40, but if I had to choose one, I’d go for 40 because I like to concentrate on one subject. 40 mm pushes me to create images with more intention. Not just snapping away in the streets but focusing on subjects that are meaningful for me.

      @veresdenialex yes, my friend. Gesture. Details. These were the words I was looking for. 🙏🏽 35 is dope... I'm good with 40 for a wide... we'll see. Hope all is well. I appreciate you watching

      None. I choose or even switch. Say, I''m walking from TVO (Eglington) down to Union on Yonge I did one day on this intersection with 90 mm. But 50 is fine. After Dundas I would switch to 35. By the Queen 28 or 21. To me it depends how wide streets are and how many pedestrians. Tight streets, crowds - 21. One street town - 50. 40, not my cap of tea... Had it on Leica M and as Olympus Trip and Rollei 35 and Smena cameras. It is a tourist focal length ::::)))), IMO.

      @@tahaphoto I had a vintage 42mm lens and it was definitely an interesting perspective to use. Personally loved it.
      Often these odd focal lenghts enable us to see the world differently, and create something unique.
      Hope all is good with you! Glad to see you back with the creativity!

    I enjoyed this video and good to hear you are getting out and creating each day. I replaced my Ricoh GR 2 with the Ricoh GR3x last year. It seems to be better for close up portraits with less distortion but sometimes I miss the inclusion of more environmental information that the wider focal length provides.

      Paul! Thx for sharing. Yeah, the GRII was great for many reasons but I'm happy to move on from the 28mm. You're right tho, portraits with the 40mm will be a nice adjustment. 👌🏽

    Dope video, I watched the whole thing.. Interested in buying the Ricoh...and was on the fence on which to get, the normal one or the X. My favorite focal length of all time is a 50mm...and I do a ton of portrait work on that, and if I'm going wide...35mm is usually the widest I would go. I guess I could treat the iPhone for the 28mm and just go ahead at get the 40mm GR3x. I'll report back if I pull the trigger ! *Subscribed !

      I appreciate the kind words. If you're doing a lot of portrait work plus you're used to the 50 focal length, this is an easy choice. I think it does a good job with portraits as well. In general, the GR series is inspiring, so I think you'll be happy. Update us all either way.👍🏽🙏🏽

    Very cool. Glad it's working so well for you. I heavily use the GR IIIx and 40mm, but just got a 85mm for my Z30.

      Thx for the kind words. Are you happy with the GR IIIx so far? Any adjustments being made?
      😮 85, eh? Ok. How did you come to that conclusion? I've used 85 only for portraits. I appreciate you taking the time to watch 🙏🏽

      @@tahaphoto The GR IIIx is the first real camera I've own as an adult. (Well in my life unless you count the Kodak Instamatic I had a kid). I used it EDC for nearly three months when I a friend gave me their Z30 to try a camera with an exchangeable lens. He had a 24mm and a 50-250mm. Had a hard time with the zoom. Not completely certain why I got the 85mm other than being a newb and it was on sale.

      @@tahaphoto Sure am, I've been using mostly Fujifilm cameras but the Ricoh is unbeatable in terms of stealthiness and one handed operation. I had the gr II a couple of years ago but I never really loved the 28mm FOV, the 40mm is much more comfortable to me.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  11 месяцев назад +1

      @TheArtistisIrrelevant I'm right there with you. I feel once you've tried the 28mm for a long period of time, it's easier to make the transition to 40mm since you're wanting more or less from your compositions. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

    I’ve had a few Ricoh GR including the film version years ago over the years but always moved them on.
    I’m just not a 28mm shooter, I much prefer 35mm if I had to chose a single walk around lens.
    I would be tempted to the iiix but it’s not a cheap buy to give it a go!!

      Shaun, I hear you. You're lucky to own the film version. I want one by this time next year. Love it.❤️🙏🏽 IIIx is not cheap but has been worth it comparison to the GRII. thx for watching 🙏🏽

    I'm using a Sony Z-V1, which has a 24-70mm 1.8-2.8 built in... Usually get my favourite results with something in the 50-70mm range. I love shooting past/through things and longer focal range helps with that. I had the Gr3 the first week it dropped, but couldn't live with 28mm all the time...and was just getting into video, which is a no-go with the Ricoh.

    • @tahaphoto
      @tahaphoto  11 месяцев назад

      Great to hear from you, Chris! Hoping all is good & well. Ah, 24-70 does the trick for sure. I agree with you. Sometimes, the eye or the mind wants more. I actually with the ricoh had pancakes inter-changeable lens. 🤑🤓 but I digress. 50mm is a real challenge for street. But I've tried a cpl times. I'm actually interested in aspect ratio a lot more than ever. 1:1 currently has my attention for photo... and 4:3 for video. Any preferences there in your experience??🙏🏽
