That car is so over the top styling wise. Then again GM was over the top in 1958. Harley Earl and his desigers were having some fun!

Great car and story Lou, enjoyed it
Hi Sam, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) Lou
In the fall of 1957, my family took delivery of a 1958 Star Chief Custom Safari in these exact colors. The Custom Safari was this car in wagon form. Same trim, same chrome, same dash, same carpet, same gas filler secret. My father was in the Air Force and every two years he ordered a new high end Pontiac from Joy Motors in Emmett, Idaho. Having grown up in Emmett (His Dad, my Grand Dad, was Chief of Police for way to many years) the family would go on vacation or re-assignment via Emmett for Grandma's incredible pies and delivery of fresh off the factory assembly line, the newest and nicest. Thank you for sparking vivid memory cells of my earlier years.
Hi Ron Smith, Thank you for viewing and sharing your story :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy. Regarding sparking those memory cells, you're welcome, Lou
Beautiful Pontiac! They were high style.
Hi Bruce Bryant, Glad you enjoyed the looks of this one :-) Lou
Maybe I shouldn't mention this, but I had the greatest opportunity any 14 year old could ever have.
My dad took me down to LAX airport unbeknown to me, I had to drive my uncle's 58' pontiac just like this one, I drove it down to Torrance, Ca. which if you live in the area isn't very far from LAX airport, but for a 14 year old it was far enough, but that 53 years ago.
I really love all the details of this car and the chrome work, AWESOME! Wish I had one :(
Hi Antonio Gomez, Clearly a memory that lasts a life time :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou
Antonio Gomez thanks, for mentioning this... these Pontiacs were King Cars when I was starting to Drive .. Classmate had a 57 Pontiac loaded......Factory..interestingly, my first “ fast” cars were the SD 421/1962, (?) Pontiacs at our Garage hang out, going to and from US30/ Bunke4 Hull Drags, etc,
What a beast! I bet it doesn't get over 15 miles to the gallon. But back in '58 that kind of mileage didn't matter since gas could be had for about 25 cents per gallon. I was in the Army when I owned my big V8 Bonneville so the joke was, the tank was rusty above a dollar's worth.
Hi Lee Elliott, Thank you for viewing and sharing :-) Sounds like great times with your V8 Bonneville, Lou
Why can't they make cars like that now. I love the sparkle carpet.
Hi monarch1957, The sparkle carpet is cool :-) Lou
Too bad huh. I rode in many of these Detroit icons back in the day being born in 52. Like MIckey Roarks character said in "Sin City". "modern cars, they all look like electric shavers".
Dang. Awesome car. The Chevy Bel Air is definitely the icon of 50s cars and yes deservedly so... But in my humble opinion, Pontiac and Mercury cars were the epitome of 50s style

Beautiful Bonneville, ash trays was a big thing back in the day, had to have ash trays all over the interior lol
Hi JxT1957, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. Please remember to watch the commercials at the beginning of the video (or at least the ones you can), as that's how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you :-) Lou
Lou thanks again laying in bed watching your classics, before sleep every night 😊 what a beautiful Pontiac
Hi Carlton Dobbs, Hope the videos bring you happiness and sweet dreams :-) You're welcome, Lou
LOU , YOUR THE BEST .

THANK U.
1958 PONTIAC
MY UNCLE HAD A BABY BLUE 4DSD
Hi Andrew, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Appreciate your kind words, it's encouraging, Lou
This was always my favorite Pontiac. My Aunt Gladys had a green Catalina in 1961. Beautiful car. She took my brother and I for a ride in it and hit 100 mph in no time. While traveling out west pulling a travel trailer, Gladys was driving too fast again. The trailer fish tailed, she lost control and destroyed everything.
Hi David, Happy to read this is a favorite for you :-) Wow, unfortunately a sad ending for the Catalina :-( Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Gm should just stop what they’re doing and bring back their 58 line up!
Nice :-)
I laughed out loud when I saw those ashtrays come out. You did an amazing job with an amazing car Lou. You must love your job sometimes!!!
I'm having a blast :-) Glad you enjoy this car Jed Clampett :-) Me too, Lou
You know it shows in your work that you enjoy yourself. That's important along with the fact you are able to show lots of cars. Others are good but you are the best on You Tube.com.
Jed Clampett Amen.
Easily America’s most handsomely styled automobile for model year 1958. And paced the Indy 500 that year. The two tone colors here truly hit home. Tri power manifold always provides ample acceleration. This machine is flat out gorgeous!
Hi Gary, High praise for this "flat out gorgeous!" car :-) Lou
Love the dashboard chrome on this car. Wow!
Glad you enjoy the dashboard on this car :-)
I remember these Pontiacs when I was 5 years old in California they were so gorgeous cool where gas tank is looks good inside and out this was their Anniversary Car Very Surprised 😮 that the owners didn’t know that remember how everyone had talked about the car being so extra special is why they had had the sequined carpet is because of the car being the Anniversary car nobody ever did that again!!😳🤩😃I wish they’d bring back Pontiac in Grand Style and make Limited Edition VERY LIMITED so People would see how much we appreciate STYLE AND HEAVY METAL CARS 😃🤩😉✨
Beautiful pontiac.....lover your car Tom
Glad you enjoy this one Ab R.Magallon :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy, Lou
Yes Lou.....i watched your videos and i love every video. Me my self love old cars. Specially buick i love buick. Right now I'm trying to get my 56 buick roadmaster....on the road. Car was sitting down for almost 20 years.....but just the fact i know i save her from going to scrapp metal yard makes me feel good. One day it will be like thus 58 pontiac. Great videos and love every video
I didn't think anything could steal my heart from the 58 Chevy Impala - but I gotta say, this beauty here is a temptation! A triad of Wows and a bonus Ooooooh! Just don't tell the Impala, thank you. I feel enough like a sleeze right now as it is - but whoa - this 58 Bonneville is as sexy as she is exquisite! If I owned her., I'd have to have deep black op background checks on anyone wishing to sit and ride with me in this gorgeous creature. And the gas port! Hubba-Hubba! And I never ever thought I would call any ashtray gorgeous but this one is all of that and more! LoL
Hi ImTheDaveman, "Triad of Wow's and bonus Ooooooh!" I'm good :-) Lou
it was great when you knew exactly what car it was from a glance or even hearing it . the faceless crap we have now !
Good times :-)
Think about all the cars that were crushed, it would cost a fortune just to find the parts to restore a car like this. thank you Lou.
You're welcome welch-shahan.
Boy, that engine starts easy and sounds real smooth....Good job on hiding that gas cap and ash tray, would never find either one!
I'd be looking for where to put gas in the car for a long time :-) Lou
Great, great car. And it was right down the street from me!
Nice :-)
Gorgeous car. Would love a ride in it. Great style. This is a Pontiac worth keeping. I love the exhaust as it sounds stock and not all glass packed up.
Thanks Jim, I hope you get your ride, Lou
A spectacular automobile! Wow!
Glad to receive a "Wow!" from you :-)
This was when cars were beautiful and exciting!!!!! I was only 16 when this car came out, but if I had been older and had a job I would have done everything in my power to buy one!!!!!

Such a beautiful car and i love those models from the 50's & 60's ... The bigger the better
Nice :-)
That is one sexy machine, and the two-tone colors are revving my boyish admiration engine. I was born in the early 1970's so I grew up with the cars of that era and the 1980's, but OMG, the cars of the 1950's are like rolling museums to me. If I ever get the chance to own a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville Sport Coupe Hardtop I will DEFINITELY pounce on that chance! Now I see why my dad loves cars so much. He grew up riding in these as a kid. I am green with envy!!
Hi Locktwiste72, Glad you enjoy this one, and happy to read this one brings back wonderful memories :-) Hope you see many more cars from the 1950's on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Love this car. I remember this color combo when I was a child. They were getting old by then but still many around. I wanted more on the history of the car and what was done to it.
Hi anthony calandra
, Happy to read you "love this car" :-) Glad to read this car brings back memories for you, Lou
Great car and interview, Lou. Memories of an era that is over.
Hi DPG2203, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) Lou
Gone yet not in the least bit forgotten nor ever should be
I wonder why they didn't go for a triple back light for '58 (like the Impala), since later Bonnevilles had altered back lights.
Not sure.
Such a beautiful car, love the color combination and yes it does have a fabulous dash. Lou I really enjoy and appreciate your videos, Thank you for taking the time to make them and post them on EBay.
Glad you enjoyed this car, me too :-) Thank you for the compliment and appreciate your kind words, Lou
love the car , love the dual ashtrays!!!!!!..lol...very cool
Glad you read you "love" this one stephen manion :-) Lou
Wonderfull! Looks like the Chevy Bell Air!
Glad you think this one is "wonderful" :-)
More similar appearance to the Chevrolet Impala
Given the choice between the Pontiac or the exotics, I'd take the Bonnie. Nice find Lou
Glad you enjoy this find FUBAR Model Yard :-)
The late ‘50’s Bonneville’s are one of my absolute favourites. A 1959 convertible is on my list for sure! What a wonderful example, beautiful colour and that interior! 🤤
Hi V8Adam, High praise :-) Did you see this one? Lou ruclips.net/video/42LkQiOAf8A/видео.html
Lou Costabile thanks Lou! I’ve seen that video before, love it! Will watch it again, thanks for linking 😊
I just LOVE these '50s "Rocket-age" cars- true American art-forms! I'm from UK and can (just) remember the American influence on our own li'l cars of that era but your's are the real deal. That Pontiac is beautiful with all the detail built in to it. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Hi Stephen Phillip, Glad to read you're enjoying the 1950's cars :-) Here is a playlist of the 1950's cars for you. Enjoy! Lou ruclips.net/p/PLkoIzmOYXcci5_poUdGutQMVJ-fK3-cB-
The Highline and the the rocket emblems you see it is still a car designed by the inventor of GM Design, just one year before Bill Mitchell took over.
Hi Andy Hanovera, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Hey Lou, Bob can be Proud of that '58 Bonnie! What a Beauty! I learned a few things. I never knew the ashtrays were hidden in the dash like that and the gas tank behind the back up lamps. Lot on common with the Chevy that year and then so much more. This would look so nice with Skirts. Thanks LOU!
I'm learning (as you can see/ hear) as I'm going too. You're welcome, Lou
Stunning beautiful beast that is!! Great find and thanks for sharing it!!
Hi treesnmoguls, Happy to read you enjoy this "Stunning beautiful beast" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Dang!!!!!!! This Baby got more chrome then a Impala
:-)
GORGEOUS!
Glad you read you enjoy this car Michael T :-) Lou
The intricacies of the chrome and other decorations is really impressive. Must have been a chore to build.
Thanks for this great video Lou (I’m re watching some)!
Hi Jeff King, Happy you're enjoying the details :-) I find when I watch again, I pick up more details I might have missed the first time. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Lou, I love how you have done a *rear* 3/4 view of this beautiful beast! The tail ends of these 50's beauties were nearly always more spectacular than the fronts!
Hi Jimmy, Thank you for sharing what you enjoy. Lou
Great 58 Lou. Keep bringing us those great Ponitaca.
Hi Vern, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Stay tuned, there will be more Pontiacs, Lou
The 1958 Pontiac Bonneville is the best looking GM product period! The 1958 Buick Limited is next.
Hi Clare Butterfield
, High praise for this Model :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Clare - I totally agree with you - to the letter. I can honestly say that Buick never made an ugly car. They are all “Stylish”. The ‘58 Bonneville is still my “All Time Favorite Car”… I just couldn’t pass-up your comment…
Beautiful car, beautiful colors and interior.
Thank you Bob for sharing. Thank you Lou. :)
Hi Here_We_Go_Again2, Glad you enjoy this car :-) My pleasure, Lou
You deliver a ton of quality car videos, shame you dont have a top-gear style show.
I like the way you think :-) Maybe some day a TV Producer will see the Channel and think the same way you do and we'll have a TV show.
Flugzeugträger! I Love it! Its a very beautyfull Care!
Hi Freddy Kesselgucker, Glad to read you "love it" :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy, Lou
love a 58, my auntie had a dark copper strato chief and it was the silkiest ride i ever had in that beauty. i still admire it sitting in the woods behind her house since the late 60s, dashboard like a spaceship
Happy to read this car / video brings back memories of the 58 your Auntie had :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
If my dad could have been around long enough to experience youtube

I'm literally drooling looking at this fine work of art!
Hi ItsTopCat, Thank you for the wonderful comment and glad you feel this one is art :-) Hope you find many other car on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
First car I had was a 54 Cadillac Coupe Deville, had gas fillers on both sides under the swing up taillights ...
Nice :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Congratilations, sir! Nice Bonnie.
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Nothing in '57-58 can compare to the Eldorado Broughams. Now having said that, the '58 Olds 98, '58 Buick Riviera & '58 Pontiac Bonnevilles were beautiful! 😍
Hi Smooth Operator, Here is that 1957 Eldo you enjoy :-) Lou ruclips.net/video/-3jMgI_wzlw/видео.html
I was wondering where the gas filler was. Thanks.
Hi David, You're welcome. Lou
The Forgotten Pontiac. The '58 was the start of Pontiac's climb to performance dominance...Tri-Power? Got it. Want Fuel Injection? Got that too. It wasn't said, but did this car have the Reverb speaker option for the rear speaker? For noobs, the speaker had a slight delay, which gave the sound real presence in the car. But this is a hell of a Pontiac. I wonder where the fuel-injected convertible (same colors) I saw in Harrisburg PA in the early 60s is today?
Hi caribman10, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Not sure where that car ended up. Hope we see it on this RUclips Channel someday. Lou
I love Pontiac and I am partial to this year cause I was born in June 1958. He had a outstanding car!
Hi Steve Flad, Sound like this one has all the elements to be a Winner for you :-) Lou
Now that is a beautiful car !
Hi Phyllis Johnson, Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy, Lou
Thank you both for sharing. fond memories of cruising with my older brother in his '58 Chevy Impala SS which was just as luxurious! Too bad GM couldn't afford to do a 100 year jubilee!
Hi Arin Cee, Sounds like good times for sure :-) I like your 100 year jubilee idea. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
ridiculous in the beauty ridiculous unbelievable we have definitely regressed SAD‼️®™️

Well said.

Hu Rudy ( El Tejano )Escobedo, Thank you for viewing and sharing your first hand experience, Lou

As.pristine as this Pontiac is ..the front license plate is crooked..ha..just kidding Lou..this car is nice!
Happy to read you enjoy this "nice!" car David :-)
Beautiful two tone green and it has a vent system at the rear of the roof, above the back window.
Hi David Tosh, Glad you like the two tone green :-) Thank you for sharing your knowledge of that vent, I did not know that, Lou
Vent is non-functional, same roof as the '58 Impala. Just for looks.
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Beautifull car, wonderfull!!!
Hi Ilan Oliveira, Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Just another beauti Lou. That puppy weighs more than my car and the garage it is in LOL Geez I wish they made them as visually attractive today. Thanks, Lou.
Hi Rich, "That puppy weighs more than my car and the garage it is in" N I C E :-) Thank you for viewing & you're welcome, Lou
In 1969 I owned a car like this what a beautiful car it was white with red.
Hi James Eggerth, Glad you enjoyed this one and thank you for sharing that you ha one like this too, Lou

Hi C P. Glad to read you enjoy the designs of the 1950's cars :-) Hope you see many more on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
WOW, jaw dropping car! so much style.
Hi cyanidetube, "WOW, jaw dropping car!" High praise :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Esse Pontiac é lindo e o painel está novo em folha .
Hi Dom, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Gorgeous car, but it came out of Galveston?? I'm surprised it hasn't rusted from the inside out! Very humid climate there.
The dual headlight theme came out with Ford Motor Company in 1957 (Lincolns and some Mercs). GM copied them in '58.
It's funny you mentioned it here at 3:26 saying it was the "first year for dual headlights" because you did a video (and commented on the same thing) only one month before (July) on a '57 Turnpike Cruiser that also had dual headlights.
As for the exhaust going through the rear bumper......Ford did that in '56 with their Victorias and T-Birds.
I'm not saying Ford "had a better idea" but I am saying they were first in alot of things......including the two items above.
Sorry, but I get a laugh out of some interviewers who oftentimes know little about the old cars they are doing the interview about. ;-)
Hi Curt Brennan, Boy....I was so happy you were sharing knowledge and helping improve the Channel by sharing your knowledge, and then you had to ruin it! When I'm out there for YOU sharing cars and you became a CRITIC that I know so little about cars. So I went to your RUclips Channel to see how an "Expert" who tells other how little they know does it, and to my amazement THERE WAS NOTHING THERE! So here is what I'm going to do this one time, I'm going to assume since your so wise, next time you'll realize when people are taking the time to video cars that you're sitting on your rear end watching you're going to the polite Guy in the first half of this comment, and not the Critic who takes a final shot, because you don't want to play that game with me. How's that sound? Lou
Lou, because he doesn't have any videos up, means he doesn't know what he's talking about? I don't have any videos up either (as alot of people don't). Consider the point he was making, he obviously knows these old cars and was just commenting. I was thinking the same thing he was, especially when you pointed at the window cranks and commented for which window they were used, like it was something new you just found out. ;-)
No big thing, relax.
Damn, I love that car. Perfect.
High praise :-)
That little silver sports car just dissappears when that Pontiac comes into view. 😂
It happens :-)
Im from belgium, wonderfull car en almost al the old american cars are very Nice, nothing can compare wit a old american car,Nice.
Hi Koen Huyvaert, welcome to the Channel, and glad you're enjoying this classic :-) Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Thank you🙂.
Absolutly stunning!
Hi William Dixon, Glad you found this one on the Channel you like. Hope you find others you like too, Lou
Dont park this car in the sunlight all that chrome will blind you. Heehee
Just the way we like it :-)
The speedometer went to 120mph, and it would do it too! The Tri-power Bonneville was darn near as fast as a 1958 Corvette. Try to imagine buying this car brand new in 1958 and bringing it home from the dealer!
Hi GeneDJ2, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and yes, bring this one home would be a very good day for sure :-) Lou
Do bad it would not stop with all those drum brakes. Lol
The ragtop version paced the 1958 Indy 500
Hi Gary, Good to know, Lou
Love the 58' :-)
Hi Dan Morrissette
, Happy to read you "love the 58" :-) Did you see this one too? Enjoy, Lou ruclips.net/video/gH0k69Tdo2A/видео.html
i agree,, the only way to describe this car is WOW!!
:-)
I hope that beautiful car moves the owner like it moves me! I watch a lot of car videos, and this is the best in my eyes! 👍
Hi Jim, Happy to read "this is the best in my eyes!" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Hi Jim, Make sure you watch the commercials as that's how I get paid so I can keep sharing with you, Lou
My aunt and uncle had a 58 Pontiac just like this and I tried my darndest to buy it. It was the same color and had tri-power too.
Maybe this is that car?
@@loucostabile My aunt and uncle were Marie and Doug Frick from Cathlamet, Washington and they bought the car new and had it till 1963 when they traded it in on a new 63 Grand Prix Pontiac.
The engine is a 370 cu in. In any event a really well optioned 58 Pontiac.
Hi Edward Berwind, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy, Lou
Thought all 1958s were 370 powered
@@garyblanchard1084 Gary you are correct, Typo.
lou, if i had money like that, my 50's car i would love to have would be between tha "58" Plymouth Fury like tha models used in tha movie "Christine " & tha "57" Chevy Belair 2 door hard top!!! those cars just have an certain appearances to them!!
The 57 Belair is one of my favorites :-) Lou
+Lou Costabile great car!!
I was born much too late! My first car was a hand me down from my father...a1979 Bonneville. Nowhere near the the character of the '58. Are there many of these 58's and 59 Bonnies out there?!??
Hi Aaron Joley, I'm a Father, so believe me, I'm sure your Father did the best he could giving you a hand me down 1979 Bonneville, but now the question is, what are you going to hand down? You're born at a time where you're seeing some of the fastest Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, Corvettes ever, and don't forget about the Viper and that's just the American cars! Are there many 1958 & 1959 Bonnies out there? Not many I'm seeing, but when I get the chance to meet the Owners, you'll see them right here on the Channel, so please stay tuned :-) Lou
Oh..believe me..I was THRILLED to get that car. Not complaining in the least! Just saying the Bonnie lost alot of its character. No rocket motif! My Dad worked for GM for 35 years at Saginaw Steering Gear.
It's nice to read you're thrilled to get the car :-) Thank you for sharing your Dads dedication to GM.
This car is outstanding. I've seen a lot of these and never seem to take enough pictures. Love the "Tri Power".
Hi William, I have a bonus for you. The first time I videoed this car there was a noisy water pump in the background, however you might enjoy a few details we missed on this video, so here is the link, Lou ruclips.net/video/yv7LNU-lYiA/видео.html

@@loucostabile The ashtrays and the lighter show how much smoking was a part of daily life back in '58.
The ‘58 Bonneville is my “All Time Favorite Car”… You just can’t beat the looks. I was a hitchhiker for 2 years before buying my first car and the man around the corner had one - jet black. I made it a point to be at the corner as he come by to go to work.
