I’ll still never get why Gibson’s and fenders are priced so differently. They’re just as famous, just as iconic, just as good feeling. I love my Gibson’s but i dont think my es-339 is a guitar 1500 dollars better than my highway one strat with fralin pickups and a humbucker. In fact that $500 guitar and 250 dollar pickup set can do a lot more.
And believe it or not, that amazing solo on another brick in the wall, was played on a gold top Les Paul going directly into the board. Heard Gilmour say it himself.

I am a 21 year old Floyd fan, they are and have been my favourite band since the ages of 10 when my uncle gave me 'Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd'. See Emily Play got me hooked at that tender age and I haven't looked back since, I couldn't put into words how important this band is to me. They have literally been the soundtrack to my life, they have help me through the bad times and taken the good times to a completely new level. It makes me immensely sad that I will never see Floyd live...
I am 55, and I feel the same. Pink Floyd helped define my world view as I grew up. Their music got me through major dark times. A seed of hope planted in my soul. I had been through so much torment as a child that The Wall was instantly relatable, and I wondered "how they knew how I felt". It was their story, but somehow it was my story. And I will never see them live. I will never meet a single member. But, I did win tickets to the premier (back then that word meant something) of 'The Wall' in Portland, OR. No clue if there was a single song that hooked me: "One of these Days" - "Money".. I really liked "Brain Damage". "Comfortably Numb" though. As soon as I heard it... yea. That is so me. Even today, it is my anthem.
@@davesunhammer4218 63 here and pretty much same/similar feelings and thoughts ... so, it's not just the Internet that's bringing generations closer together ... it's also music, and especially Pink Floyd ...
and yes, i have seen only once concert of Roger Waters, In The Flesh tour, in the year 2000 i think ... but none of the whole Pink Floyd band ... grateful at least there are some good videos and the original albums of course ... and with Syd gone decades ago and Rick passing away not so long ago, the band will no longer be THE BAND anyway ... how long more will i have myself after all?
I’m 21 and some and some more and as ,much as I loved Floyd, especially live. The one thing that turned me off is when politics got involved in both the music content and the band members relationships. Roger became hard left and a bit of an activist, some may say anti Semitic and Animals was born out of an Animal Farm copy album, from then on I switched off a bit but appreciated the music without the underlying meaning. Religion and politics spoil everything. As for watching live they were almost studio perfect and not the best band to watch per se. Floyd is made for headphones, alone in a dark room. I
I was lucky to see the Wall Live, in 1980. Earls Court. But I totally get what you are saying n feel your pain. When they got together for Live 8, my chin was on the floor. Live aid - Qyeen, especially Freddie Live 8 - Floyd were the act everyone stopped for So iconic n mesmerising. Beautiful music
"Breathe" and "Us and Them" were originally intended for the soundtrack for Zabriskie Point and were rejected by Antonioni? Floyd fans: What a *huge* bullet was dodged there!!!!
Dan Evans i feel the same. I didn’t appreciate Pink Floyd until I was about 40. Zeppelin has been #1 for me for 45 years, always will be, but I’m sure glad I came around and didn’t go through life not seeing the magic of Floyd. Page and Gilmour touch my soul with their guitar playing.
I was a diehard Zeppelin fan, but when I was 14-15 I found Pink Floyd and nothing else, musically, mattered. I thought I'd ride the Zeppelin again given time and distance, but as some are saying here, their music just doesn't age as well so to this day, their music oddly gives me nothing. I actually thought the same thing would happen Pink Floyd (and it did for a while) but now I am here again, enjoying their music with new/different ears and I'm just loving it.
I don't mean to praise Gilmour, but I really haven't come across a more developed person overall in my life. His whole being just emanates excellence in all aspects. My favorite guitarist and band!
Few have ever moved me so powerfully through music - ever since I first saw PF just before Dark Side of the Moon came out ... still one of the most amazing concerts ever and I went through the late 60's and 70's seeing virtually everyone. Long live David Gilmour and thanks to him for so much powerfully emotive and brilliantly ROCKING music!
To be honest i think because of david gilmour people here in middle east know about the rock n roll Coz most of arabs dont bother by listening english songs But bcoz of david gilmour's guitar work or exactly because of pink floyd they love rock So i personally consider them as the greatest band of all time ps: "pink floyd is the only band which is better known in the whole middlle east
Gotta love the Brits :O the're so classy, and for a tiny island to give the world literally 50% if not more of the worlds top 100 bands of all time is outstanding.
his voice, intellect and karisma indeed! He doesn't waste words. every word that comes out of him, you hang on to every syllable....I saw him live in 2006 in an old smaller venue than the huge stadiums and it was a natural high i'll never forget.
His voice, intellect and karisma, ah ;-)...his whole presence is so soothing...Amazing man, person and artist...:-) I would like to see him perform live so much !!!
They say one man can't change the world, but for some of us, he changed us forever. There is no, going back. Its the love of good music that makes you. You are your experiences. The moment built in time, and a song to remember it by. That is why music is so strong in every one. It's what humans do, since the beginning of time.
Any time I hear Mr. Gilmour play, I am ever inspired to work harder to create a tone on my guitar that takes not only my soul for a ride in the sky but the souls of anyone who may be listening. The road to heaven, I think, is a road of music, walked upon by angels...angels who have seen the way to God.
My advice (I played in a Pink Floyd Tribute band for years): 1) Get the DG-20 active pickups (shown in my moniker on my '79 strat) 2) Get a modified Blues Driver 3) Spend the $400 and get the Butler BK Tube Driver 4) Get an old Hiwatt 50W tube amp (mine is 1976) 5) Practice, practice, practice (I used Guitar Pro6 to learn the solos) 6) Repeat #5 until you die I've been complimented on my tone on many occasions. I don't claim to play as good as David or be even close, but if you put in the time to learn how to bend properly, and practice his music enough, then that setup will help you get as close as possible to his sound. Good Luck and Rock On!
@Robert Hubbard He seems to be your buddy, troll. You can go ahead and go straight to Hell. Muted because you're human trash for joking about your master, Satan.
Love to you David Gilmour, I can see a modest humble man with incredible musical talent. There is no one who plays an instrument the way you play your guitar. It's magical!🍁🍁🍁
Have respected and loved Pink Floyd for a long time. Probably more and more, actually. What an interesting, well spoken man David Gilmour is. Amazing, creative guitarist too.
I'm not generally generous when it comes to compliments, but people like David definitely deserve all that...amazing man, incredible artist and utter gentleman :-)
One of the best bands of all time. So many lost opportunities when Roger walked away. On a par with the Beatles, the Stones, the Doors and Deep Purple.
I think ATD and RK would have been better musically, but I doubt Roger would have let any of DSOT or DB anywhere near the studio. By that time they weren't even talking or recording together so had Roger stayed IN the band, they would have had more of The Final Cut, which really doesn't sound much like Pink Floyd.
Thanks for uploading this. Grew up listening to Pink Floyd with my first gf then fast forward 20 years--my wife likes a few of Gilmour's or Rogers' songs. I'm not intimidated talking to a billionaire if I had the chance. My heart would be pounding talking to legends like this.
I'll always love Pink Floyd. This was a great interview; as always, a pleasure. To this day, even that little bit of "Breathe" still brings a welcome chill over me.
Rick's contribution, letś have the song David just played here "breathe" it was Rick who came up with that strange heavy jazz chord which makes the whole thing go "Whoa what was that?" Turns out that Rick was a big fan of the album "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis and Bill Evans who played Piano on that album had such chords and Rick went *Ding!*
For all of the technical aspects of my playing... nothing quite beats playing wish you were here or in the flesh. Nothing. Their music is so iconic it virtually overshadows anything else. Pink Floyd will still be talked about in 500 years time. Listening to DSOTM on immersion is truly breathtaking.
Wooooow this is why Gilmore is my favorite rock guitarists. Some would argue about the Jimis but they are blues and were breaking new ground in that way, but Gilmore is jazz blues, and R&B yes R&B his chord progressions including breath is a jazz fusion before it even came out. When you ad Wright and his jazz classical piano. Love me some PF more than getting high music but actual music that touches you. This lady but us and them had like 4 music influences. These guys were from space. Great video.
I vividly remember being 11 years old and my cousin just bought the newly released A Momentary Lapse Of Reason cassette tape. My first time listening to them. I will never forget hearing Sorrow and I thought that’s exactly what I want to do. My parents bought me an electric guitar shortly thereafter. I’ve been chasing those tones ever since. There are NO words to describe what Pink Floyd means to me. The music, to me, is a lifestyle. It’s as relevant in 2019 as it was then. It always will be. Thank you for the inspiration and the music.
@@turbojetpowered8299 For one I'll do whatever the fuck it is I choose to do and not what u suggest I do; two, there's not anything I need to " get over" just because A Momentary Lapse of Reason was just that, and not a Pink Floyd record.... dummy !!!
It's crazy how it relaxes me to hear him speak. I deeply respect and admire Gilmour, he's a great man who has his feet on the ground, he has a huge talent on guitar. He is a beautiful and intelligent man.

Live aid - Qyeen, especially Freddie
Live 8 - Floyd were the act everyone stopped for
So iconic n mesmerising. Beautiful music
David Gilmour Rocks! He has always, and continues to be an inspiration to those of you out there who are really listening.
wow, that Breathe was so fluid!! sounds amazing. Thank you, David
"Breathe" and "Us and Them" were originally intended for the soundtrack for Zabriskie Point and were rejected by Antonioni? Floyd fans: What a *huge* bullet was dodged there!!!!
Breath, to me, is the sound of dark side of the moon. Most beautiful!
Love the way David Gilmour plays, Im 11 yrs old and just performed The Wall. It's amazing album. I've uploaded some of my covers of it.
David Gilmour is one of my few inspirations as a guitarist. He has such an expressive, soulful approach to the instrument. Just forever in gratitude.
im a zeppelin guy but the older i get the more i appreciate pink floyd and particularly gilmour.
Used to be a big time Zeppelin fan here as well and have preferred Floyd over the years. Pink Floyd's music just aged better imo.
Why jus zepplin and Floyd? The band was up there as the greatest as well, they could all song and swap musical instruments
I’m 51 and tend to listen to Floyd and Rush more than other bands….
Long live David Gilmour and thanks to him for so much powerfully emotive and brilliantly ROCKING music!
his voice is so calming
That little snippet of "Breathe" sounded so good, loved it !
Time is brutal but PF and its brilliance defy all elements short of perfection.
"you'd be in deep trouble if that was your heartbeat..." hilarious!
Pink Floyd released Dark Side when I was a freshman in high school, and was still on the Billboard best seller list when I graduated four years later.
It's still in
To be honest i think because of david gilmour people here in middle east know about the rock n roll
Coz most of arabs dont bother by listening english songs
But bcoz of david gilmour's guitar work or exactly because of pink floyd they love rock
So i personally consider them as the greatest band of all time
ps: "pink floyd is the only band which is better known in the whole middlle east
Gotta love the Brits :O the're so classy, and for a tiny island to give the world literally 50% if not more of the worlds top 100 bands of all time is outstanding.
Yup we are! 😂
They just needed a little sauce called “the blues”, from America, that’s all.
Haha tiny island?
Yes, you can give 50% by destroying others 100%
Too bad the Brits are being ethnically replaced in their own country and they are going away....
For being one of the best players in the world, david is so humble.
Wow, it was all going so well until " I was wondering if you would play something from Breathe?" Then I started crying...
I hear you, buddy. Me too.
It's a magical thing if music can move you in that way. I'm the same and can't imagine life without great music. Keep being moved guys
Gilmour doesn't talk much..but when he does..he is one smooth operator. Smooth as silk😍
his voice, intellect and karisma indeed!
4:30 what a wonderful melodic passage of licks and chords.
A bottle of water sitting on a $150,000 mixing console. Priceless.
cseeger1 not priceless, $150,000
@@stejac133 and insured, you can be sure.
Anybody other than Dave would have rammed it up the interviewers arse
@@jpr3665 yes but whose bottle is it...
Could've been sitting there, dont clean up all the time
They say one man can't change the world, but for some of us, he changed us forever. There is no, going back. Its the love of good music that makes you. You are your experiences. The moment built in time, and a song to remember it by. That is why music is so strong in every one. It's what humans do, since the beginning of time.
David is the most beautiful man ever. Inside out !!!!!!
He's a bit dull
jo bloggs He's mellow. A perfect contrast to Roger. And he's gorgeous still, after all these years.
I bet you missed the humour !
Why are girls always so thirsty on these videos?
Art & Anarchy because that man is one of the best looking as well enormous talented... Once in a while, come this kind of humans...very rare..
At some point in David's young life, someone told him to "get bent". He misinterpreted that to mean his guitar strings and a legend was born.
My advice (I played in a Pink Floyd Tribute band for years):
1) Get the DG-20 active pickups (shown in my moniker on my '79 strat)
2) Get a modified Blues Driver
3) Spend the $400 and get the Butler BK Tube Driver
4) Get an old Hiwatt 50W tube amp (mine is 1976)
5) Practice, practice, practice (I used Guitar Pro6 to learn the solos)
6) Repeat #5 until you die
I've been complimented on my tone on many occasions.
Pink Floyd is in a category all to themselves in that their sound and style is inimitable.they are brilliant
Have respected and loved Pink Floyd for a long time. Probably more and more, actually. What an interesting, well spoken man David Gilmour is. Amazing, creative guitarist too.
David Gilmour is my Guitar Hero ... his note bending on the guitar is ICONIC ...
I like Roger's solo work but yeah that was a gut punch.
I have seen pink floyd 10 times and everytime I seen them I get really emotional best band of all time
Rick's contribution, letś have the song David just played here "breathe" it was Rick who came up with that strange heavy jazz chord which makes the whole thing go "Whoa what was that?"
Turns out that Rick was a big fan of the album "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis and Bill Evans who played Piano on that album had such chords and Rick went *Ding!*
Rick is behind all my favorite PF songs. A superb musician.
If I could only meet one group of artists it would be Gilmour and Waters...
these guys have managed to put a sound track to the wonder of creation and i am eternally grateful to them for that
David Gilmore is my favorite lead guitarist hands down 😎
Wooooow this is why Gilmore is my favorite rock guitarists.
Absolutely the best band ever. Nothing like them around even today.
Radiohead
@@I_Have_The_Most_Japanese_Music They’re in my top 5... 🤙
I could be listening to him for a whole day
David is a true living legend a great person and always a gentleman
Pink floyds music is beyond heaven, it just flows like a gentle stream through your brain, the ultimate musicians and will live the test of time.
AHHH I love this man ❤️
damn i see u under every pink floyd video :P
+MCGaming Hellas well, I love them
+Andy Cobain marry me🙏
😂💕👍🏽
Andy M which one? There are two of them
I vividly remember being 11 years old and my cousin just bought the newly released A Momentary Lapse Of Reason cassette tape.
Sorry to hear that momentary lapse of reason was your first album listening to considering it wasn't a Pink Floyd album
@@turbojetpowered8299 For one I'll do whatever the fuck it is I choose to do and not what u suggest I do; two, there's not anything I need to " get over" just because A Momentary Lapse of Reason was just that, and not a Pink Floyd record.... dummy !!!
i wish they had an Animals box set as well. they came out with a box set for Darkside, Wish & The Wall But No Animals.
+eddieisfiction WTH are you talking about?
+eddieisfiction Syd Barrett was fired from the band 10 years before Animals came out.
eddieisfiction stupid fuck
@@MikeErnesto and i think he thumbed up his owncomment
@eddieisfiction take a bit of time off to regroup my man and come back stronger, you're better than this.
It's crazy how it relaxes me to hear him speak. I deeply respect and admire Gilmour, he's a great man who has his feet on the ground, he has a huge talent on guitar. He is a beautiful and intelligent man.
David Gilmour is such an amazing person so talented .For that matter they where great from the start including Syd truly sad thing but was definnetly a little strange but very cool.
+Paul Gill Without Syd there would never be "Crazy Diamond" or "Wish you were here"
I agree but Syd was talented to his own style but David Gilmore is much rounded he helped Pink Floyd a bunch to develop a style of music.
He is just pure class and such a music god! They all are of course. They will be listened to just like Beethoven and Mozart and all the timeless greats. Best band in history.
When Mr. Gilmore plays guitar, close your eyes and you can hear the gates of heaven open.
My favorite artists of all time, the Floyd entourage. Something magical from these Brits! Never be anyone like them ever again.... right time.. right guys.. right music!! NOTHING moves one's emotions, stirs the imagination, makes you reflect on one's experiences, relationships, and all of lifes meanings quite like listening to Floyd! Its always the journey when i put on their music.
Suppose it will always be that way
.. THANKS gentlemen!! (*and Syd too)
