I’m now ready for that chemistry exam. Good job!
Amazing:) Thank you for watching
Unpopular opinion: Dior Homme 2020 is good.
If you look into DH2020 on its own, and not base idea on previous release, you will find it is a very nice fragrance. Many times I read reviews trashing it, usually they compare it to the old one.
I wear it all the time (2020) and I love it one of my go to everyday fragrance. I don’t care what anyone else thinks, wear it for yourself!
it is good and I like it, but I am still disappointed that it supplanted original Dior Homme. I still wish it was just given its own new line.
Agree
I agree. To sum it up, Dior Homme 2020 smells like sexy man sweat and Dior Homme 2011 smells like a sexy man that’s been making out with a woman wearing lipstick and it’s on his collar
Very different take on the new 2020 formulation than what everyone on RUclips is saying about the newest formulation.
Thank you for the video !
Thank you
@@AaronTerenceHughes i just tested for the first time the new 2020 Dior Homme. It is different than the previous version.
Somehow I get a strong Bleu de Chanel vibe from the Dior Homme 2020. I wasn't expecting that.
@@tattoofun2003 I love your Chanel man ,, great informative content ,, thank you so much for everything
Dior 2020 is a real Shit, I used version 2011 and nothing to compare.
Why Dior destroy amazing Perfum?
Yes BDC EDT!!!!!!!!
I am a PhD science student and a fragrance lover. Aaron your videos are amazing! This is why I love fragrance it mixes both science and art beautifully, which I think results in magic! All the best Aaron ❤️
Im so pleased I attract fellow scientists. I always hoped I would provide a place for you
Well said! And good luck as you pursue your degree. It will be worth all of the challenges, failures, long hours, and instant ramen.
@@AaronTerenceHughes Thank You
2014 dior pour homme parfum 75ml is the best perfume dior has ever made in my opinion
@@AaronTerenceHughes Thank you so much for the encouraging comment. I am actually experimenting at home making perfumes. I don't own any good Oud to work with. Do you know where the best place for me to get good Oud from. Or would you recommend I experiment with aroma chemicals first to get an Oud accord and experiment with that first. I know real Oud is expensive and I wouldn't want to waste it until I know what I am doing. Thanks ❤️
I very much enjoy how technical your reviews are. You definitely fill a void in the fragrance reviewer community. There’s no one else like you. But then again, you’re a unicorn :-)
Thank you. Your right only one perfumer who thinks they are a Unicorn! ;-)
@ B K There are too many opinionated fragrance reviewers and not enough professional/amateur perfumers.
Andybato - Agreed, except Aaron is no amateur. He’s as much a pro as anyone in the business. And with his chemistry background, I’d say more so!
So the new one has more naturals and is likely more expensive to produce! That contradicts prevailing wisdom that perfume houses are constantly trying to trim costs and cheapen formulas. I haven’t smelled the 2020, but it’s been almost universally panned in “fragcon”. Glad to hear that Dior may not have lost its way at all...
Thanks for the honest, enlightening review, Aaron!
My pleasure
After watching your reviews, I struggle to watch fragrance reviews by anyone else. Just incredible. Thank you.
The Master has spoken and I continue to take notes. Excellent as always.
Thank goodness for ATH, an objective view of both these fragrances... you never cease to amaze me! I never really liked the smell of the OG Dior Homme but looking forward to this new version. Now I'm all set to have the new DH in my collection.
And thank goodness for my chemistry professors, this chem talk is like having a regular convo, LOL!
I’m trying to do what makes me different on here. This is more what I’m like day to day. Maths and chemistry is at my core!
Deeply applicate your knowledge and passion in your reviews. Such a breath of fresh air.
My edible hit me during your chemistry lesson 😂 this information however is so amazing and valuable, glad you are able to impart some knowledge on to us. This is the best perfumery channel on RUclips without a doubt.
HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! It was a bit like going down a rabbit hole right in the middle and then back out.
Love wearing fragrance and watching your respective review videos. This channel has truly expanded my knowledge of chemistry and overall fragrance
Best perfume review channel right here! Thank you so much. I love your extensive explanations on perfumery, I have learned a lot just from listening to you.
My pleasure. Thank you for watching
My new favourite fragrance reviewer! Where have you been?!! Talk about well blended as you say that’s your channel! A mix of fragrance and science - su-bloody-perb
Aaron, how dare you have a different opinion than most RUclips reviewers. The nerve! LOL! That's why we love you and keep tuning in. And thank you for the daily chemistry lesson! I feel like if I would have had you as a teacher I would have passed it.
I love chemistry and I love sharing it.
The funny fact is that he is the only only only one who knows what he is talking about...
its a free masterclass included with the frag review. were becoming smart lol
I love the way you break all these down. It's nice to get an understanding of what makes up the notes we pick up on. I have recently grabbed Dior 2020 in the hunt for a different signature scent, and I quite love it. It does seem like it brings back some of that 80's masculine fragrance vibe, but it cuts the animalic and barbershop vibes that dates those fragrances a bit. I do agree, I would love if there were some geranium in there to bring it up another level.
This channel needs to get to 100k. Aaron you’re an inspiration!! Never change plz i beg. Unicorn love from the Netherlands
Thank you for recognising the hard work that goes into these videos. Im constantly trying something different to educate.
I personally love Dior Homme 2020 more than original "iris version".
The drydown of DH2020 slightly reminds me of Blue de Chanel aftertone.
I bought the new Dior Homme back in March for my birthday and I really like it. I know it gets a lot of criticism because lack of iris but for me I look for masculinity in fragrances, so I love those masculine woody fragrances. For my personal taste I would go for the 2020 version, I don't think I tried the original Dior Homme but I listened to a lot of people on what it smells like and already know what I would prefer. It's nice to know what a real perfumer thinks of this new fragrance.
Your gifted and passionate approach to fragrances makes me take notes and study as if I were going to a master class where I am always learning . I look forward to your insightful videos. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Colombia, South America.
Although I'm not a PhD in organic chemistry, I find it surprising that I mostly follow you on your explanation, and it is not "sci white noise" for me. )) Thanks! For some reason, I find your technical explanations interesting and enjoyable.
Love these reviews Aaron educating us on all aspects of perfumery
My pleasure
Very interesting comparison. You get a clear image of what to expect from each one.
Extraordinary review and breakdown of the compounds (*cue the rim shot* lol). Bravo, sir.
Thank you for recognising the hard work that went into this video.
I enjoy your videos and I find that because there is often so much information provided I will have to view them a couple of times. One pass is simply not enough. I appreciate the education about fragrances your videos provide.
A quite enjoyable and brilliantly entertaining chemistry lesson Aaron🦄 Cheers.
Thank you Brooks.
I recently discovered Dior Homme 2020 and love it!
This is so nice to hear that the reformulation is actually MORE natural and better than the original.
Brilliant review. Very educated and educational. I have old and new versions. So happy it got re-released 👍
Great review Aeron, before i buy my fragrance, i must to refer to your brilliant opinion most of time, Greetings from Morocco
Hey Aaron ! I love your videos, the way you briefly talk about perfume’s notes is amazing. Please review JPG Ultra Male because everyone loves it.
Hell yea I was hoping u would review these appreciate u !
The part with the chemistry theory threw me right back in the 12th grade. Aaron i absolutely loved this video and your work in general. You really stand apart from the rest of fragrance community. On another "note", im really curious about your birth chart, you really seem to be a really interesting and complex soul! Keep up this awesome work you're doing!!!
Thank you. I’m actually a wood tiger. And a Virgo. So Virgo means obsessed to get things perfect and clean lines. And wood tiger is a loud mouth with lots of personality! My mathematics friends who have known me over 15 years say I’m actually easy to predict as I follow rules. But I always thought I was quite chaotic
Also, I really like your content. There is something about you that is extremely captivating, and I can't get enough of it.
Thank u Aaron once again for honesty. Seems like the hate for Homme 2020 has been a thing since it was released. It’s such a beautiful fragrance. The iris in the orginal Homme is too cloying for me personally.
I agree with you. I dont like the Iris accord at all. But thats such a personal thing. I love it as its slightly 80's and super masculine.
I can say I just purchased the new 2020 home intense and I trust in your video's and critique 100%. I think I've watched them all!! I'm stoked to get it despite your opinion being quite different from many others.
Love your take on this one; DH 2020 is a well-executed fragrance. Please do a review of the New Dior Homme Sport (2021) as well
Bought the 2020 version based on Your review.
Very easy to wear, very versatile, masculine scent.
Love it :D
is it persistent?
@@arncj18 6+ hours. This is coming from someone who has average to slightly sub-par performance from fragrances.
@@kez850 interesting. I assume on skin the performance is related to ones body temp and bio.chemistry like bloodpressure, insulin level, cortesol level, right? Also air temp, skin tone and pore size.
@@arncj18 i think one of the biggest factors is skin moisture. I don’t necessarily have DRY skin but i also don’t use any type of moisturizer. A lot of people use small dabs of Vaseline on their skin before they spray and have great results. I’ve done it a couple times but got distracted and forgot to pay attention to the fragrance lol.
@@kez850 skin health comes from digestion anyway, no sugar, low carb fixes any problems
Amazing 👏 👏 👏
Every time I wait for your new review with anticipation!
Just to note the original Dior Homme has been reformulated and initially has been better.
Thank you
I just purchased the 2020 version, I've never smelled original formulation, so it really doesn't matter to me that it was changed. Based on your review I picked a winner. Plus I did smell before purchased and enjoyed it
A few days ago a collegue of mine, who knows that I love and collect fragrances, asked me what I thought about the 2020 Homme. I said that I haven't smelled it yet and he said "tomorrow I'll bring the bottle to work, don't apply no perfume". Next day he comes with that huge 150ml bottle and I applied 4 sprays of it. I liked it from the start but as the day went by I started really loving that smell. I have weird skin and fragrances mostly don't last very long but this one - not only smelled amazing, but also lasted extremely long. Even after work I was getting whims of it. I'll definitely purchase it because it is very pleasing, very masculine and long lasting, while at the same time doesn't come off as agressive as other long lasting fragrances.
The unique perspective you provide is appreciated but so is your objective view points alongside the subjective ones. Thanks.
Totally dig the chemistry explanation, I wish I could speak to depth of such things 🧑🔬⚗️🧪🔬
I really enjoy these reviews. Very in depth! You’re ready for your own ASMR channel :)
You are a great fragrance reviewer.
I wish you could make more videos 👍
I completely agree with you! Tried both of these and 2020 is way better in my opinion . Thanks for having courage to disagree with what most of guys are saying on RUclips about 2020 . Respect!
My new favorite reviewer
Thanks for your wisdom. I sprayed my sample of the 2011 version and experienced it through your nose. Learned a lot. Personally, I've tried to like it, but can't get past the so-called Iris opening. It actually makes me nauseous. I've not smelled the 2020 version. Sounds like they've improved it.
I think your love the 2020 if you like a retro, super masculine feel .
Hey (Friend in my head)...👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 Another great review. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and information concerning Fragrance. You are superb in every way.
Thank you
Aaron my man, you've convinced me to give this another try!! I appreciate your insight!!
When i ve first smelt Dior Homme 2020 I really liked it ,I thought it was a fantastic and masculine fragrance .Listening to some of the opinions I was really disappointed.I m so glad the most Aaron who happens to be the most trusted guy on RUclips likes it.
Well done. Insightful review. Would love to smell the finessed version as you described. Share your views on the 2020. Much maligned, but quite good.
Love your reviews kind of reminds me of a book were lady perfumer seen scents in colors
I love the background!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Well done Aaron!
A very different opinion and a better one if I may add, compared to what I’ve been seeing on Dior 2020. I did have a chance of tasting it and I loved it I’ll be picking it up next month. Aaron ur quite different from any perfume reviewer out there there is no right or wrong with you it’s just pure facts and for the viewers to decide. 😎 🙏🏾👊🏾
That’s how a scientist works. Present the facts. I never watch other channels so I keep my point of view
Aaron, I mostly don't know about chemistry, but really, this one gives me an idea of how several perfume won't work for several people. For way too long, I've been hating this kind of fragrance like Mont Blanc Legend. There probably some notes that make me nausea, maybe its the lavender, i don't know, maybe its sandalwood. Can you do this kind of video so I can stop buying the wrong fragrance?, really love this content by the way!
At last someone in the “community” who admits that the new Dior homme is actually a good fragrance...
thats not the point. Its good but similar to tons of others. Mainstream unispring cash grab.
@@adamleon8504 I get what you ‘re saying, even though I don’t entirely agree, but most RUclipsrs, if not all of them, basically say that this is a horrible, synthetic scent, nothing compared to the original one. Aaron is the first one to say that this is not such a horrible scent after all!!
Most of them just hate on it bc of the old one. pretty sure if it had a different name on it then people would be all over it. It's a very good scent and prefer it over sauvage imo
@@droiddevx03 so? Does that make it good?
@@adamleon8504the thing is, a money grab, and a downright high quality fragrance are not mutually exclusive. This is a mass appealing scent, not a niche, and if you can’t appreciate it for what it is, you’re just hating
I really love the new Dior homme!
I am really fascinated by the 2020 reformulation. Could someone please help me figure out which packaging I should look for? There's so many different bottles, which one is Aaron talking about in this video?
If you are interested in doing something radical one day, I would like to see: Get a guest, and present them with one of your fragrances, without saying anything about it. Not the notes, name, nothing. And ask them "What kind of person, or which location is this?"
Dior Homme 2020 is a masterpiece. 2011 is ok cause I have a lot of memories of wearing it, but if I was new to the hobby and was smelling them both for the first time side by side I would probably pick 2020 every time.
I've never tested the 2011 one, can't find it anymore, and I've heard it's good but I own the 2020 version and I really like it
get your hands on the Intense. its amazing. either formulation, the new one is supposed to be almost the same.
@@wakeinthecity9 Oh I have every flanker. While Intense and Parfum are great, they are not versatile whatsoever
@@bravesirrobin1793 you can find the old Dior Homme on fragrancenet. While it’s not at a discounted price anymore, they at least still have bottles.
@@kez850 really? Cause that's where I got my bottle, it showed the old version and what they sent is the new one, they misrepresented it
Just tried a spray of Dior Homme 2020 today, prior of seeing this video, and, I've fell in love, probably my first love at first sight/sniff in perfume its in my cart and coming home soon :)
I have lots a niche fragrances and recently saw it on offer in a store, decided to try it on my skin and instantly loved it, bought a huge 150ml bottle on the spot.
Your videos are so nice!
Great job.
Daniel Marin thank you:)
2020 gets me tons of compliments love it this thing dances in the air
@Sajid Iftikhar It's a beast lasts all day an the smell it smells like money
Got both, love both, even my 2015 version seems watered down. The „new“ intense goes more in direction 2011 dior homme. I layered the 2020homme with halfeti, some rose oud fits extremly good. Great review and so much knowledge ! Thx for sharing unicorn
My pleasure
What's a unicorn?
Then I have to try intense! I had no idea they changed the smell, yesterday I got so disappointed with homme 2020, it's not that is the new one bad, but I love the old one much more and I miss it now :( my hubby don't know the old one so he doesn't mind the new one, but I do :(
@@jeffca027 yeah the intense is the best of the line imo
I love the Perfum version of Dior Homme! So good and unbelievably strong. Btw I would prefer if your step a bit back or zoom out because in that video you are literally just a head talking :D just a bit! Keep up the good work Aaron.
I agree. I actually film these from my little bedroom. I will turn everything around next week so that its more of a long shot. I film these in one take on a Saturday. But I do agree with you.
Are you a Robot? You are amazing 👏. Love your take on these fragrances.
I love your hair!
I love my hair to:)
Hi Aron the original Dior Homme has a silver stem running down inside the bottle not black the black one is not a patch on the vintage one it was so innovative when it came out it has a lot of aniseed on top and then turns to a sweet Woody iris.
Every one has their own opinion but I’m glad you mentioned everything about each. Some prefer sweet notes I been wanting to buy dior homme but I keep hearing 2020 version and 2011 is so different that 2011 is way better or should I just go with Dior homme intense ?
Definitely a blind buy for me I don’t find them anywhere.
This dude is amazing, every time I watch I learn.
Great review, thank you!
For the time the original formulation of Dior Homme was made in 2005 to cross the barrier between men's and women's fragrances by using feminine notes to make a masculine perfume which was more groundbreaking at the time. Demachy loves to use aroma chemicals rather than natural
I have a sample of Dior Homme 2020 and it's a very addictive fragrance... I don't understand the hate it gets.. Thank God you're on youtube!
Exactly. D2020 is amazing.
So waiting on this. Let's go
Marvelous and thorough comparison! The best on this subject.
I particularly prefer the 2020 version, the iris note has always put me off.
Just picked up the 2020 version couple weeks ago, it’s slowly growing on me, but I think I prefer it in smaller doses, throughout the day vs over applying from the start.
chemistry is everything Mr.hughes
I love chemistry and maths
That's interesting because all the RUclips reviewers who knew the 2011 version already are against the 2020 version because it's different. Although I don't know why they just didn't give it a new name.
When it says Virginia Cedar is it really cedar or is it just a load of iso e super?
Also it looked like the double bond was in the same place in your graphic of α and γ ionone, just that the γ didn't have the methyl groups explicitly drawn on.
I think they should of called it a new name. To me it feels completely different. Nothing like the original at all
I heard that 'Dior Homme Original' is the replacement for 'Dior Homme 2011' and 'Dior Homme 2020' is a different fragrance from its predecessor.
Every time I get a new frag, my brain automatically assigns the current chapter in my life to the new smell. I recently had my first child, a boy, and I picked your Alpha Man for the pregnancy phase, and this Homme 2020 for his newborn/toddler years. I can’t wait to spray Homme 2020, or pop the magnetic top on Alpha Man in 10 years and be taken back.
I appreciate the honesty. I smelled YSL L’Homme next to Dior Homme and I’ve got to say Dior just edged it out for me. Another one in the category mane not note wise I’d Dolce Cabanna the one
Aaron, as a chemist, I find your reviews to be hugely informative, as well as entertaining. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on chirality. The molecule for example, that gives spearmint its distinct odour, has a mirror image molecule (enantiomer) that smells of caraway. I would imagine there must also be a degree of chirality in many of the aromatics that are used in perfumery (eg coriander and lavender). Could this be why we all pick up different notes when we smell a fragrance?
Chirality is important for receptor recognition, Since olfactory receptors are g-coupled protein receptors they are made from chiral aminoacids and they can recognize chirality in molecules, so one enantiomer may smell like one note while the other may smell like another. The reason we smell things differently is likely related to levels of the different types of olfactory receptors that we have expressed. So for example, if I have 10 times as many speariment type receptors, I will detect that note much more strongly than you will. Chirality is important for recognition but changes in the experience are really related to a person's olfactory infrastructure and neural pathways. Keep in mind that the more you smell, the more types of receptors you express. So your sense of smell is actually changing over time.
@@govco6696 Wow that's actually cool, wish they taught me that in school
Thanks Aaron. DH 2020 is an excellent fragrance. I love this woody-musky scent.
wow this is a special video. Very nice to see this.
My pleasure
Hey Aaron, i'm with you, but un-diagnosed spectrum. Love the passion and where your thoughts and brain took you and can completely relate to all of it. Just wanted to find out if I am buying Dior Homme Original or Dior Homme intense from your reviews that I truly love and agree with most things you say. All best the best
I never liked Dior Homme 2011 but I tested Dior Homme 2020 , liked it , after watching ur video going to buy straight a way full bottle bcoz I LIKED IT A LOT . Thanks to you 🙂
I like the Dior homme 2020 but I noticed I’m allergic to it and it makes it hard to breathe. I’m convinced it’s the iso e super because bleu de Chanel does the same thing :(
Hi Aaron ! Nice review as always ! IMO as a Dior fanatic the Dior homme 2020 is hyper boring super safe ordinary perfume ! I don’t care so much that is not related to the older versions but I do care that with half the price you can have similar mid and base with guerlain homme edp ! I don’t know what they had in their mind .... Cheers
Excelent review, mr. Aaron! I know Dior Homme 2011 and the first version 2005 wich i think its the best iris in this category luxury designer, period. Francois DEmachy continued the hard work of the Olivier Polge. And then again, Francois Demachy released a new 2020 Dior Homme wich is basically a new Dior Homme, thats slghty different from 2011 and more different from 2005 forumaltion. No iris/oris rot! But i tested it and its pretty good. My personally favourite from the line will remain Dior Homme Intense 2011, wich is perfect crafted in my opinion. I love your reviews, did a great job! Salute you!
Thank you for your kind words
DHI 2011 is the truth. I bought DH Original recently and even though I like it, I kind of miss my old faithful DHI.
I went to smell this a few days ago and loved it. Definitely ordering it soon. I found it to be long lasting (I got 6 hours on skin, not the best but acceptable). It is woody, classy and masculine.
I reallly love DH2020 its so intoxicating and so smooth
@@jouhajohnny agreed. I got a 50ml in February and plan on getting the 100ml soon. I love this scent and don't understand why some individuals dislike it.
Hi Aaron, thank you for your review. I would love to layer Dior Homme 2020 with other scents to finesse it, what other fragrances would you recommend to layer this with?
i didnt get the 2020 hate i think is an amazing bottle i was going for one of the 4 sauvage, i got a whif if the new homme and bought no second thought the biggest bottle(150ml in my country) i absolutely loved it
Dior Homme 2020 is a gem‼️ Masculine, elegant, addictive sillage with versatility 🔥
Just tired it at my local shop! I do love it for an everyday scent. Smells beautiful to me. Smells like fresh clean skin. I definitely will buy :)
This was a good comparison trying to find the older Dior are hard love the old batches but new one is okay
Such a great comparison.
Thank you
Hey why did you remove the Fragrance du Bois video?
Aaron, we want you to create a men's iris based fragrance.
I preferred the newer version too but couldn’t understand why the others said they preferred the original
