Imagine how impactful this could have felt if the player character was the Inquisitor or even Hawke. Instead, it's just some Randy Rook. Makes his death feel cheep to me. I'm personally sad Varric is dead but I don't believe Rook should be so devastated over it, especially when Harding, Dorian, Isabel, etc., barely blink an eye.
Yes, especially that it was the Inquisitor who sent Varric and Harding after Solas, because Varric was the only one they could trust with this mission. But they don't mention it at all. The plot with Solas using blood magic to manipulate Rook with visions of Varric is so absurd to me. Like how come noone in all these days mentioned Varric's death, or mourned him, or tried to do a small memorial for him. Instead of feeling that the god of lies and trickery fooled you, outsmarted you, it reads as a cheap and irrational moment, because the whole trick would fail if someone just mentioned the freaking Varric like normal people.
@@pativi6643 At least if the Inquisitor was the one seeing visions of Varric, it could have been a bit justified as the Inquisitor falling for it and possibly looking over obvious signs that he's dead because believing Solas's blood magic is a coping mechanism for their guilt over Varric dying for their crusade to save/stop Solas. Maybe even throw in characters like Harding being extra salty that Varric "got hurt". Dorian and Isabel both want to give their condolences over Varric "getting hurt". The whole time we the Inquisitor character are just like?? Calm yourselves, I'm fine. Everything. Is. Fine. Then BAM! They weren't talking about Varric "getting hurt", they were talking about him being freaking dead and you let the blood magic hide it from you because it was easier than facing reality..... But nah, Random Randy Rook who barely knew Varric is better. Yikes. Wtf were they thinking? Lol.
This really is just sad.... Like... Did the devs not check out the previous Dragon Age Games and Lore?! Checked out all of our feedback over the years?... I wonder.... will this be the final nail in the Coffin of our beloved franchise? Will this be the grand finale of Dragon Age? The End of an Era? We've waited so many years for a new Dragon Age Game.... ....good thing I still have the old ones to replay past moments. To see old friends once again and to cherish their company even more.
I think it's very shit writing that they killed off Varric and somehow, no one mentions him, mourns him, comforts Rook about him or questions the fact that Rook can see him? Like... There's no way. What a gaping hole.
did you even play the game? that's the whole point of the story. rook didn't earn the torch, it just fell on their lap due to circumstance. you people hate on the game but don't even bother playing it before
Shocked they had the gall to kill off a beloved character and *lie to the audience* that he was okay for half a fucking game. Killing Varric felt about right- it's a good ending for Varric, still trying to see the best in an old friend to the end, even if the game is too "Power of Friendship" for my tastes about the whole thing. I'll file Varric's death under the category of "A good idea in theory, that a better game could have done well." just like, oh, most of the rest of this stupid game. Killing him and not being honest about that upfront is just kind of insulting. They let you think he survived in a way that made the game feel toothless, and then turn around like "Hey, you know how we convinced you that this game was written by complete feckless cowards who wouldn't kill off a character you like? Well that was an elaborate ruse for no discernable reason!" And the result is that we get the character death and none of the catharsis of a *good* character death. It's *so much worse* than the game just being honest about killing him off at the start. Veilguard is a game that feels like it would be more fun to read about on a fan wiki than to actually play or watch, and that's absolutely depressing.
TBH its very obvious he's dead considering rook is the only one who talks to him and no one else acknowledges him or even looks at him lol I could tell immediately
Agreed, and Hawke should’ve been present during Varric’s final scene or if Hawke died last game get a shot of Hawke waiting for Varric on the other side. Varric deserves a better send off.
I just assumed he died from what I saw in the trailer and his famous last words "take care of them for me." It was actually weird to see clips of him afterwards, but now we've circled back to being right the first time? There's no weight to any of this.
I KNEW he was dead this whole time! I started figuring it out when literally everyone ignored him and never brought him up. Plus it took him ages to heal and I got tired of him talking to me every time I changed Rooks appearance. lmao.

Yeah theres no connection, they should have made the Inquisitor the main character not doing that was the worst decision they made

Whether left in the Fade or not, Hawke is gonna scour the Fade to find Varric and bring him back.
I still teared up. Gddammit... Varric... :( friggin Solas.
And the Oscar for Unearned Torch Pass goes too….

No matter how much you hate Solas for this, we need to protect him. He now maintains the veil.
Now killing the elven Egghead is a priority.

they never lied about his death lmfao get a grip
The fk they killed off varric. What's wrong with them
@@TeaTimeTableno one even bothers to comfort rook about varric. Wtf is this game
