One of the best step-by-step instructional video re setting up a plex and HDHomeRun application. Very well done as this will help me immensely as I’m trying to set my new set-up tomorrow! Thank you!!
I have the HDHomeRun FLEX 4k, which decodes ATSC 3.0. Wasted a lot of time figuring out Plex doesn't support ATSC 3.0, so it has a very short lifetime. That's a day of my life I'll never get back.
Most excellent and timely! I spent several hours yesterday researching HDHomerun/Plex/WD My Cloud/etc. trying to find the best solution and went to bed totally confused. Got up this morning, found your video and the skies opened up. You answered all my questions! But do try to improve your taste in TV shows - LOL
Great video! Subscribed. I don’t have this homerun device. I just got a homerun prime and a cablecard. The reason I did this is that since I pay for fast internet for Comcast, it is actually cheaper for me to use their cable rather than something like Sling or RUclips tv. The problem is that I was never, ever using the actual cable boxes. We need to have an account to login to the channel apps, which we use a lot like ESPN and Lifetime etc, but any time I want to actually use a cable box, we have to reboot it or figure out why it isn’t working because it has been months since we used it. I think a lot of people are probably in my situation. In any case, enter the homerun prime. It will allow me to ditch the boxes which will save me money on my bill and even though I probably won’t use the live tv much, I can record shows in Plex and add them directly to my tv library. I have only had it for a couple of days but so far it has been great.
Hi Carolina, love your videos.Just bought my HD HOMERUN, it wil be delivered in a couple of days. Have Plex with pass, my TV is a smart Samsung with Plex in it. I don't think I need a ROKU, or do I? TIA
Just saw this video since PLEX has gotten my attention. Since this is a cordcutter, can you record programs from IPTV servers? Will IPTV services work with PLEX?
My Roku has the RF plug for the antenna. Any reason why you wouldn’t just skip the HomeRun, and plug the antenna directly into the Roku? My Roku works perfectly with my Plex server, and I’m in the process of actually hooking up an antenna.
I don’t know if anyone answered you, but the programs are stored in the media library on your Plex server. So if the laptop is the Plex server, it would be stored there or on a network attached storage that the server as connection to. Make sense?
You have to create library directories before you start recording. In that case, if you want to save on laptop hdd, you can. Or you can browse and setup the tv show directory on an external hard drive, it will be saved on the external hdd. If you have some kind of nas, browsing and setting up directories will also do the same.
Hello dear Caroline, thank you so much, with HDHOMERUN SCRIBE DUO, do I need to have the computer on all the time? and does it work with Roku?, please advise, thank you,
Question: When you were speaking on the item only having 2 channels, and having to close it or it would take up a channel, does that mean you can't record and view something else on another channel? Also what if you are looking at a previously recorded show, does it take one of the channels to show live shows?
The HDHomeRun has two tuners to support two live streams simultaneously. Therefore, you can watch two TV shows at once on two different devices. You should notionally be able to also watch recorded TV at the same time as the two live streams since the recorded streams are from the Plex server, but I am unable to verify if this is the case.
I'm not sure how to ask this...lol. I have Plex server running on my desktop PC...everything is hard-wired except Roku (we have multiple through out the house). You explained for an optimum experience, you should hardwire the Roku as well. So...would I need to hook up a Roku to my router and a TV (I have one nearby). Or is the Roku hooked up just to get a better experience and and having it hard-wired would it help the remaining Roku's that run wireless to the PC? (we have 5 roku's...there are only two of us...LOL) I hope that made sense?
Hi Caroline, I have a windows 10 laptop and a my cloud home which I have successfully installed through my TV. I have also loaded Movies which work through my Tv , Photos which are displayed on my TV however my plex will not in any way pick up my music folder or my music video folder I hope you can help me as it's very frustrating.
I know it's probably something simple, but Plex is not recording. It WAS recording, then all of a sudden it is no longer doing so. We did have a power failure a couple of weeks ago...so maybe something to do with that. I have the HD Homerun, Plex Media Server is running and Plex Pass...everything is on my home PC...slight difference is wireless ROKU. I have two networks....Netgear10-5G and Netgear10. How do I determine that everything is running on the same network? Roku is on Netgear10-5g...but I can't determine where HDHomerun is running nor Plex Media Server are running...
Having everything wired is what I did, until a lightning storm came along and sent a surge through my Ethernet cable. It took out my modem, ports on my switch, and my TV. Now I'm going wireless to the firestick, the blueray player, and I don't have the TV connected by wire anymore. And what's funny is, we remodeled the home and I had the contractor run 2 Ethernet cables from my computer room to where the TV is located downstairs. It was a lot of work to do this running a pipe through the walls. And then a lightning storm takes out my TV, go figure. I have a Homerun box with Plex Lifetime. In the past year there has been an issue with Live TV and DVR timing out or going back to the menu on Firesticks. There are people posting logs in the Plex forum. The solution is to watch Live TV and DVR on a phone, and cast it to a Chromecast connected to the TV. It's a few extra steps and you'll have to buy a Chromecast for $30, but it does work if you want to watch Live TV and DVR. I hope they get it fixed for the Firesticks because this setup (Homerun + Plex) is great when it's working. But right now it keeps buffering and going back to the menu on Firesticks.
Yes, the HDHomeRun has two tuners. However, if the Plex is recording something simultaneously, then you may not have access to the second tuner as the Plex documentation states that it assumes the Plex has sole access to the tuner(s).
caroline i would like to thank you your video are a bug help -i do need help with my roku ultra when i select live TV &DVR it said ( it is currently unavailable ) CAN YOU HELP?
I'm a plex pass user and just added live-tv. I set plex to record a movie but the system didn't record. Apparently my PC goes to sleep when not in use. I was expecting plex to wake up and record but this didn't happen. Any feedback would be great! Cheers. :-)
I want a DVR that can record hulu live and whatever I watch on Roku. Can a dedicated device like a Tivo or Amazon Fire tv recast do this along with provide me with a quality interactive tv guide? I also like that I don't have to buy a separate harddrive or download recordings to my computer because the content goes to the dedicated dvr device instead. Can I use something like tivo for all of these things and not have to get HDHomeRun? I already have plexpass as well.
Seems very complicated for a US citizen who wants to just be able to watch and record free over the air broadcasts. In the UK and most other countries you can buy an all in one DVR and can then watch, record, rewind free to air TV and DVRs are available for both free antenna/aerial broadcasts or FTA satellite. For example I have a Humax FVP4000T which contains 4 terrestrial tuners and a 1Tb HDD built in. You take it out the box, plug it in, follow the prompts and 5 minutes later it's up and running. I can record up to 4 channels at the same time while watching a 5th. No further payments, no need for Plex subscriptions, no need for external HDDs, no need for a PC or laptop even. Of course if you want to do the same as this video showcases, streaming or recording on other devices etc. you can do that too with something like a Vbox which also come with up to 4 tuners but for someone that just wants a simple, all in one box solution are they not available in the US?
At 4:26 you describe the HD HomeRun device. I like your clarification of what it does and doesn't do, but I think your first bullet point describing the unit should be "It is a tuner that creates a video stream for your local network."
I'm worried for you. Studies have shown that watching The View lowers your IQ; don't want that to happen to such a nice lady. Quite while you still can. lol
Great instructional video. Even a person new to PLex could follow it easily. Now I have to watch the music one you mentioned.
Beautiful...my network is way downstairs...plugged homerun into my extender...everything works great. I don't use roku instead Android box..

So glad I found your channel.

oh MY GAWD, your ability to explain with such simplicity!!! Subbed!
Incredibly satisfying tutorial to see and here.

You are a great teacher 😀
Great Videos !!!! Thank You... Please do more...
she left a lot out of this topic.
I have a question for you. When you're recording programs, are they being stored in your laptops hard drive? Or is it being stored in the Plex app?

Would this work w a usb tv tuner plugged directly into the computer ?
nice review. I'd be interested in knowing if you can get the Raspberry Pi 4 working with the HD Homerun Connect with or without transcoding.

where do the recordings go? don't see a setting to select a server folder for this.

If you are on Windows, change your settings when you "Close Lid" to "Do Nothing" when plugged in.
@@Caroline I'm on windows 10 PC
Hello, I'm getting Play back error/Can not tune channel on the Plex. Also, DVR Active-No message on my devices. Please help? Thank you!
Can you use the nvidia as a dvr to record hulu live and whatever else you watch on your roku?
I have an nvidia shield do i still need a tuner to play plex live tv???

I just published a new video on Plex, please check it out here: ruclips.net/video/fhHLdknBAD8/видео.html
Just as what i need Plex Live TV and dvr, hdhomerun, hdantenna and roku.
Can I just download to a portable hard drive and take that with me.
Nvidia Shield is supported but I wonder how well it works on that device?

People need to understand what a cord cutter is
My tablo won't load wifi

LOVE ME LONG TIME
I'm worried for you. Studies have shown that watching The View lowers your IQ; don't want that to happen to such a nice lady. Quite while you still can. lol
SORRY MISSPELL BUG I MEANT help TKS
And yet you can not connect your TV - you have to buy other equipment or buy a new TV - that defeats the purpose of this
Too bad I only get one channel over the air where I leave
And you are not a cord cutter if you still have internet from cable tv
downgrade premium tv service to basic and use internet to stream premium content= Cord shaver
