      Cabrio Driving In The Alps Absolutely, and this echoes my sentiments from other Autogefuhl video comments sections. They have a rare formula, a knowledgable and likeable host, great access to good cars (Thomas is located in Germany where most of the euro marques are based), and top shelf quality in-depth car reviews backed up with great quality camera work. Thomas has balls of steel to be driving at 200kph on slippery / frozen winter roads!

    Thank you Autogefühl team, I was looking forward for this one for a few months. Very detailed with real considerations with of everyday life ('not too much noise for your neighbors', sound isolation at high speeds and ease of use of the safety features and good comments on the command), I will stay on your frequent term used in this video : "harmonic", so I guess just the right amount of sugar, salt and Tabasco (too much of each is baaaad :).
    Apparently I was more happy than you about ABC suspension when I tested it, but I see that yours had the MO tyres (runflat) in 20" compared to normal tubeless in 19", so that might affect the ride don't you think? The one I tried (19") was like a flying carpet, just perfect.
    Weird that there is no AMG logo in the rpm counter like normally.
    I found that Mercedes specced your test car strangely : acoustic windows but no burmeister option, no sunroof but tri zone climate option, Alcantara steering wheel option but standard aluminum and piano black trim. Perforated leather but no ventilation option (anyway, the standard AMG leatherette seats are the ones to go for). I am curious about the recommendations they gave you about the RON of the gas you need to use in case you had to refill (95 or 98 or even 100 in Germany). Again, congratulations to you and your team, following your reports is like eating a Tiramisu :)

    Great review Thomas! Good to see that the Porsche Macan is getting some worthy competition out there, the Macan is still my favorite in this class. I don't really see a problem with animal skin seats, but on the other hand I'm not one to turn up my nose at Pleather or the other faux leather options. Anything beyond cheap cloth with some outlandish coloring and I'm usually happy. Mercedes does kill you pricewise for those extra options but then so do Porsche and BMW. Overall this was a superb way to spend 44 minutes!

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 лет назад +1

      thanks m8, I do have some extensive information considering leather here:
      First to the practical reasons:
      1. animal skin seats get hot in summer and you stick to the seat
      2. they are cold in winter
      3. on cloth or microfibre, you basically don’t need seat heating nor cooling
      4. animal skin seats wear out very fast and look like granny’s old sofa
      5. if you want leather look, the leatherette (faux leather) surfaces are meanwhile highly evolved and it is possible that it feels even softer and better than anything else (See our Tesla Model X review) So Tesla shows that the discussion wether you need animal skin is basically done.
      Still, now to the environmental reasons:
      1. There are many productions where the cow is killed for the skin first, sometimes even alive, the skin is the most profitable single part of the body.
      2. The way the cows are held are catastrophic (see videos below)
      3. Even if a cow gets killed for meat first, you give additional money to an industry that relies on murder, pollutes the environment and harms people with chemicals.
      4. Does it really matter for which cause a mammal, that is 99 % genetically identical with us, gets killed? Would you say a cow only got slaughtered for the meat in the leg and thus it got slaughtered for the meat in the neck anyway? That doesn’t make sense.
      5. So to the often said argument, animal skin would just be a byproduct, please google/youtube "leather is not a byproduct" you will find plenty of information. A good overview on all those issues can also be found here: adaptt.org/
      6. Let's say you are standing at the meat counter. And you ask for the leg of the cow. The butcher tells you: "You can eat that without worrying, the cow was slaughtered for the neck first". The next customer demands the neck. The butcher tells him: "It's not your fault, the cow was slaughtered for the belly". An the next customer demands the hide, what answer does he get? You see, that argument of "byproduct" comes from the meat and leather industry to cover that you contribute to killing no matter which part of the body you buy.
      Special videos:
      1. A special video from Autogefühl considering the use of leather can be found here: ruclips.net/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/видео.html
      2. And another one right here: ruclips.net/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/видео.html
      3. Furthermore, you’ll find footage of leather production here, where people are walking in chemicals etc. and animals have to watch their friends being slaughtered in front of their eyes: ruclips.net/video/JipYvuDsI6s/видео.html
      timecode starting 27:46
      4. This is another video which very well summarizes the torture of leather production, shots taken at big farms which directly produce for the automotive industry: ruclips.net/video/OgHs239bAnE/видео.html
      Help to raise awareness on this subject. Thanks!

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 лет назад +5

      So why is it not murder when it is an animal? The thought that one being is less worth than another is the source for all evil in the world

    • @18_rabbit
      @18_rabbit 4 года назад

      @@autogefuehl This is true. But killing an animal to eat it, is actually pure survival for many humans. Even I, very healthy when 40, tried to greatly reduce meat consumption for many of the past ten years to the point that it very much has taken energy and health downwards, even though i have many nutrititious plant foods i've been eating and fish. Long term, it does not work, particularly with age into middle age, for many ppl. Reducing meat dramatically ,yes. But definitely not entirely for many ppl. One way to reduce overall meat intake is also to eat the rich red meats like Elk, if available. Even in western USA hard to buy Elk. So, I'd thought the same re meat-- but ten yrs of very extreme eating of so many plantfoods, did not work and many aging bodies literally require nutrients that only exist in meat. Thus it's crucial to not make such ppl feel guilty about the need for it. All about respectful reverent love and respect for nature. One size fits all solutions do not work in this regard because the biochem of ppl is varied.-----Nonetheless I minimize meat to the bare minimum, but it has had negative effects on my health that my physician has heavily cautioned me about. Live, love and learn.

    Re the air suspension - in porsche cayenne you use it to lower the riding height, and then separately you set the shock absorbers to Sport+. This really tightens up the car.
    Can you do the same in GLC?

    I like the view from the rear, you can see the link to the GLA for instance. I think it has a bit of character. I feel the black ash wood inside is better than the piano black but why is it an extra whereas it is standard on the ordinary GLC? The steerinf wheel is not as nice as the A45 one. I agree that the standard seats are very good. I feel the A45 vents operate and look better than the GLC ones. I really enjoy mine after driving the A45 for a few years. Overall a very good review as usual.

    Another great review Thomas! I've been in the market comparing the Macan S with the AMG GLC43. You're spot on with the counter-intuitive comfort setting on the GLC43! I was also scratching my head why they made the comfort so firm (defeats the purpose of having the air-suspension). I personally felt the compliance/responsive balance on the Macan S (even with the steel springs) better sorted-out. The interior quality of the AMG does have quite an impact. However, I feel that the Macan S would bring longer term driving enjoyment. I'm quite torn. Overall, I could just as easily go completely 180 and buy a simple MX-5 RF--and save the leftover money for other toys!

      Wooyong Ee if you are happy with something small but more fun than the macan then i found the gla 45 to be lighter and more fun to drive than the macan and cheaper than the top spec macan but note the size difference. but for refinement the macan is better for sure than the gla. I considered the GLC 43 and gla 45 and while the GLC is more refined and has a lot better kit , the gla is a lot more fun and so j bought a gla

    • @ewoo
      @ewoo 7 лет назад

      Andy P thanks for your notes. I've gotta drive this thing into my 50's--so I'll need something a bit more tame! So the GLA is out for me. I'll most likely go with the Macan S. Enjoy your GLA!

    • @andyp8464
      @andyp8464 7 лет назад

      great choice , as a young man in his late 30s there was a fair bit more performance in the gla. the top spec macan turbo is way out of the price point of both the GLC 43 and the gla. the macan s is a very nice car and is in the same price point. doesn't perform on quite the same level as either of the mercs but will be a very exclusive car as it's a Porsche and brings a very good driving experience. I think it's a great choice and I'm sure you'll love it !!!!

      Thank you all for the support. The problem is the availability of testcars in Sweden (i am living near Gothenburg). I have waited now for 6 month to be driving the GLC 43 without success. The only car available is placed in a showroom at a Mercedes dealership for viewing and not driving. You are only allowed to drive it if you sign the ordercontract first (that is Mercedes customer service). I do not know when i will have the possibillity to testdrive the GLC 43, so my enthusiasm for Mercedes is not on top, to put it gently. My second option on my shortlist is the new BMW 5 Series which i will testdrive next week. BMW will give me the car for 1 day to get to know the car (that is BMW customer service). Do you think the ride harshness has to do with the 20" rims? Autogefühl mentioned that 19" rims are optional, I would think that would make a difference in the ride quality

    Great review Thomas. I suspect the rubber pieces you pointed out under the hood are there to funnel air into the intake behind it, perhaps for engine cooling? (as it seems the main engine intakes are flanking it on either side)

    No doubt an amazing car as almost every MB car is, but whoever thought that aftermarket tablet in the middle of the central console was a good idea deserves to be fired, it absolutely ruins the great interior that MB has. But apart from that great car and great review as usual Thomas.

    Faster than the Macan GTS....the German said it at around 23 minutes into the video....plus a more current design than a warmed over Q5 with a nose job....looked at the Macan....far too many switches on the center console....not that the GLC43 is lacking in switch gear....only thing "missing" is a launch mode in Sport+ setting....this should be addressed.

      exonsun in comfort mode or when cruising yes but even in comfort mode if you're driving hard it then adjusts . in an emergency kickdown yes it has to go down possibly two gears. it does adapt to your current driving style quite well but at cruising speeds it can take a bit of time . at slow speed it would only take half to one second to give you the power in comfort and is usually immediate in sport and sport plus

    Don't really think there is anything aesthetically wrong with the rear., but if there ever was and it is a very minor nitpick.. is with the glass area might need some length and made more broader at the bottom end.
    Main exhaust tip hidden behind the fake I don't mind but what Audi did with new Q5 which is just a fake plastic muffler is just plain wrong.

      alpinaB12coupe Well there are just 2 things that hold me back from the 43 over a regular one. 1 I like the regular amg exterior better then the 43's exterior. 2 the 43 is expensive as hell in my country. It costs 30k more than the regular one.

      Something more funny to drive than a nice SUV but with a 2.0L 4 cylinders diesel ? With comparable performance of a Macan but more 'discrete' ?

    • @andyp8464
      @andyp8464 7 лет назад +1

      alpinaB12coupe hahaha it's interesting you say that. the only way I can fully answer that is suggest you drive an AMG version of merc suv or the S or RS version of the Audi q series and you'll then see why !!! personally it's for guys who have lots of pets or family with kids or need to transport luggage all the time and a proper sports car won't do. from personal experience , effortlessly overtaking , never being short of power on roundabouts , and just having lots of fun on the road. also maniacs like me love to hear performance exhaust sounds while they drive is just a joy without owning a proper sports car but being able to take the kids and pets around. the GLC 43 will do 0 to 62 in less than 5 seconds. in Germany specifically they have autobahns where you can drive really fast.
      the key downsides are the cost , stiffer ride , higher maintenance costs and worse fuel economy and generally more noise from the exhaust which may disturb your passengers !!!

    Better value than the F-Pace ?

    • @bewonderlasne
      @bewonderlasne 7 лет назад

      Gladiator1972 f pace is a bit bigger, better boot but build quality of the plastics (also the poor finition and poor attention inside the bonnet or under the trunk floor mat) is of the level of a Renault Clio of 1982. Slam the door and you will hear the noise of a Peugeot 307 door. I exaggerate a little but that was my impression when I saw it in premiere in a car show (pre prod maybe?). 0 to 60 is slower with the jag. However mmi looks better in the jag (better integrated and tactile) and the 3 l v6 diesel is a nice alternative you don't have in the glc (except the glc coupe). Options are also highly priced at jag. Style is very interesting but will it lasts in time?

    • @Gladiator1972
      @Gladiator1972 7 лет назад

      I guess it's more of a driver's car and because of the lower price tag compared to a Benz or BMW, they had to go with cheaper materials. Thanks for the detailed reply.

    • @bewonderlasne
      @bewonderlasne 7 лет назад +1

      Gladiator1972 in Europe price is very similar between the fpace and glc (in the v6 petrol versions with same options).

      Gladiator1972 I heard from 2 of my friends who owns FPace that it's not a reliable car at all. They needed to put them back to dealer for repair pretty often. I guess Jaguar makes beautiful cars but not really long lasting/ reliable ones.

      ***** Ahhh okay, the other big question I had on my mind is in the GLS 550 can you type letters with the keypad? You know the 0-9 keypad I'm talking about? Can the comand system browse the Internet?... Also I wish you could review the tech more like trying to play DVDs, trying ALL the voice commands cause I'm extremely skeptical about vehicles claiming you can send a text with your voice. It'll probably mess up a lot of words. Also voice commands for destinations. Like live testing in your videos to see how accurate the system is.

      The 2D logo as you noticed has the IDP, which is the Intelligent Drive Package. So inside the logo it has all the driving by itself sensors and parking by itself and also the braking by itself if your driving too fast into something. When you order you glc 43 you have the option to have the IDP or not. Hope this helps, i just recently bought the glc 43 black with the night package and IDP
