We just fabricated a C-NOTCH for $50 🙌🏼

- Before we can start fabricating a floor we need to deal with the chassis. The rear axle is welded to the frame which means there's no rear suspension. We want to keep the same ride height, so in order for that to happen we need to fabricate a c-notch on the chassis which will provide the necessary suspension travel. We're going to show a basic and universal way to fabricate your own 😎

YOU NEED A WORK TABLE URGENTLY!!!!!!.....
Poor ole Jolene still waiting for her Bugatti replica. How self centred can a guy get.
I have learnt a lot watching his work. It helps with my own build. I often shake my head as what I see as mistakes or taking the long way to do a simple job. But as he says” take what you want and leave the rest”. I’ll continue with my build (34 Hupmobile) maybe a bit wiser because I watched, listened to other constructive comments and not having a time schedule to meet. Love the show.
Looks to me like if the tire pressure is not exactly the same psi in both tires then there’s no way to be level on that, just my two cents…..
The Plymouth is going to look great Chad and Jolene 👍👍
that peice on the rear of the frame is where the gas tank fit up inside
It will never need a gas tank. It will never run, drive or stop. YARD ART!
what happened to the Hot wheels car I thought you were going to start on the frame on hot wheels..
C-notch made with steel strapping might be good for a lawn ornament. If I was building a car to drive I would be using 1/4” 2x2” or 2x4” steel tube, make the notch, and tuck it inside the frame channel. Then I would box in the frame. I had a VW Beetle body on one of those Chevy “X” frames. Even a mild 283 flexed the frame. If you have any serious horse power going in the car you have to box that frame.
I thought you wanted the welds inside…..
You should have watched some of Mike Bellos videos on C Notching a frame first…
He'll yes
When RU going to build a work bench to work on drawn it cut? I see rooster was working on the floor trying to build some headlights. Build a work bench. Get off the floor
It’s need measuring from the floor to level it as the tyres and pressures will change the level!
I honesty believe he can’t read, especially a tape measure.
@@MrSlingblade69He likes to eye-ball it.🥴
if the floor is level. lol
Rip Sh*T and bust Should have cleaned the chassis befire you started are the tops of the c section level with the ground AS someone else said needs to be made of heavier steel in one piece for strength
What is this guys claim to fame ....DOH I remember he can back fill using a coat hanger what skill .
My goodness do you build death traps. 🤯
Did ya see how he got his angle 😂😂😂 oh boy this guy talks crapola
Gotta grind the factory coating off of that metal..it's interfering with the weld it's self.thays why it sounds bad weld will be porous.
The only items that Chad seems ok using lots of are the cutting wheels! Is it because he likes to cut stuff?? Lol😂😢😅😮😊
he sure does love those grinders. but who in the shop doesnt? the one getting all of the sparks Lol
Chad plays to his strengths. What else would you have him do ?
Don't visit him and park your car when you come back the top will be chopped
Still want to hear the big blown 460 fire up. That's going to be an exciting day!
Thats the car i wish he was working on.
Right on!!
It's kinda like driving by a car crash. There's nothing good about it but you still want to see what's going on.
Doing a lot of projects at one time can be expensive, and it takes up needed space and time. Everyone does things differently and in their own way. This channels viewers appear to be split between true motor heads and casual car enthusiast. Not finishing projects drives them crazy while others enjoy seeing multiple builds. This is his channel so I won't try to tell him how to run it. However, I would advise him to complete at least one or two of the projects he started that's nearly done just to satisfy his viewers. Never tamper with ones creative imagination and vision for a project, just give your opinion and live with his choices. Yes it's frustrating at times not seeing the final product but it's also good to see his versatility. Everyone has a vision for their own lives, respect it, support it, or create one for yourself to pursue but please don't disrespect and be rude to those who are pursuing theirs.
I have used 2x4 rectangle tubing for the notch out. It was a lot easier than this.
Say, is that stuff available from your local dollar store? Sounds unnecessarily expensive.
@@peterland7388 you think a bit of square tubing is expensive ? ... just wait till he ends up in the hospital "when" ...not "if" that twists up and sends him into traffic ... been there done that ... this is very dangerous to others on the road
@@TheRavnKnight Sometimes it seems Chad is not building a car to actually drive, just to "generate content". Problem is, I really enjoy seeing a job done right. And, yes, the frame is a big safety issue. Better too strong, than too weak. As soon as I saw him pull out that 1/8 inch plate "because it is what I have", my enthusiasm faded... Echos of the frame butchering on the 39 Ford (in progress elsewhere). In general, I just don't think frame/suspension is Chads specialty - more a body design and sheet metal master. He is capable of great work. Sometimes I don't think he respects his own work enough to use quality materials. Penny wise, pound foolish?
You couldn’t possibly think I was being serious! And you really needn’t worry about safety when the project goes nowhere...literally And figuratively.
Chad I never ever say anything about your work. But on something like this you have to measure. You don’t know if the other guy that welded it was right. It is hard to watch it. lol. But you and Jolene still my hero’s.
Thank goodness his welds don’t have to hold anything important together!
Why not grind all that old frame metal nice and clean before you try welding to it?
That's one way to do a c notch. When I helped a friend build hot rods we used tubing of the appropriate dimensions to build chassis or do chassis modifications.
Yep that’s usually the method for most ,gives a bit more strength in that section too,but having said that it should be fine since it’s in the ass end
You gave up on the 40 Ford with the 460?
Hopefully, it won't be put on the back burner for another 2 years....
God! Can you people not pay attention. He literally has Doug working on getting the frame ready for boxing
The 40 is in Nate's hands for now. When you got an itch you gotta scratch it. It feels so good! 😉✌
Jolene buy him a small roll around table to work off of.
he spends more time on the floor than his dog.
@@billbryce3488 ~LMAO
Please!
It's a old saying if not broken then don't fix basically chad works with what he's got in workshop ie flooring
Right!! Chad loves the floor!
Back when I was poor....I would use different size tires so I could get to work...Things don't have to be perfectly level ..this is for the people that try to complain about everything...
what if your floor isn't level??
What if the tires are not inflated to the same psi, or they are not the same exact size?
Usually the C notch rear frame bracket, is cut from one piece of 3/16 inch steel plate, or even 1/4 inch plate for more strength, and then boxed. However Bad Chad seldom does anything usual, that's what makes him so interesting! Love the channel !!!!
Your level is only as accurate as the chassis is to the floor it's sitting on, inflation of the tires, and wear of the suspension. Just throwing a level on it only makes your work as crooked as the chassis is in relation to the floor. Not a good idea without checking first
You need to get your glasses on if you think that bubble was in the middle
Just when things were really looking like a step forward. Four in the shop going for it. Couple of subcontractors adding to the efforts. It was really feeling like multiple progress on multiple projects. I know and understand you like the fab parts, but it gets old. I'll keep watching but a few more out the door completions would be exciting. The Bugatti, Elvis...and such. Great channel and growing nicely.
The roof outside you intend to fit is off a Triumph GT6 not a TR7!
The car you gave Doug is a TR7
ohhhhhhh Chad, I love your videos but why didn't you level the top of those notches so they were level across the top
Because he has the eye of the tiger. 👁🐯
😁✌
I still like the roof on the car. Sad to see it go, later
Chad, buy a sheet of 1/4" (6mm) plate, you could have plasma cut out the shape you wanted, you are always saying how you want to save time. Just an idea...................keep up the good work...
This will be Great 👍 Go for it Chad👁 🐅 👌
He Started.. He spend $50.00 and he's broke... no money.
If you keep having to ask Jolene everything, just let her build the cars and you can watch.
You should just used rectangle tubing save all that stuffing around
My Favorite comment by Bad Chad today ! is "Oh yah Iam BAD Chad & Queen Jolene is on the Camera !" You both are soooo Cool Keep Rockin you too & sweet Fina !
Level???
I have to agree a moving work table would definitely be an asset. It will save your knees and back!👍🇨🇦
Do not cut the damn body up! Very extremely popular body style. Not sure you get that .
run your straight edge across the top and line up the piece on the outside to the inside piece corners no guess work.
Does it really matter if it's level, if it never gets finished and driven? 😆
find the center at the top and run a square to the center of the axle
Bring in Jimbo!
Welding it full depth of the chassis makes the c notch stronger.
I don't think using a water level is a good way to do that job here... the bubble may appear directly in the center but it may cause 1/8 in wrong on 4 ft. long , the smalest one is worst. Using a laser level would be better. and would allow to validate the ground . Hoping the ground is level and the tires are the same here (air and use)
Very nice job Chad and Doug Nice job on the chassis
Great call BadChad Sweet Jolene on the Plymouth and great call on that C-Notch on the frame too I love those 28 34 coupes like I said those were the gleams in many of car guys kids in the 50 60 70 ,s done right they are like a holy Grail of early HOT RODDING this ol girl needs that big block Chevy with that injectors in her BadChad
Keep in the back of your mind, all you fabricators out there, Chad is showing how to use what you have, not spend a lot of money. He has said many times the show is more for the “ normal guy” ( or girl) to build their dream vehicle. Not so much for someone with the wherewithal to buy what is “ needed”. That being said, the comments from you fabricators, are very much needed for the viewers that don’t mind spending some paychecks. Those that can spend will probably have a better safer vehicle. Just try to be more educational than bashing. Most of us appreciate the knowledge you bring.
A couple blocks of wood would make alignment of the pieces easier.
Someone said, "You have to love a guy who levels his work but fails to level the car"... frame to start with that is. The Queston, is the frame sitting level with the tires mounted?
Great to see such enthusiasm and excitement fabricating. Always best when you’re creating and doing something you enjoy 👍
Chad and Jolene did the guy come buy the car ???
Building another old cool hotrod awesome
Jimbo needs show you how to gas wield 😂
If you have to spot weld overlap your spots it be like a continuous bend, so long as your heat and time for each bead is right .
Great work Chad! But you need a nice welding table. Make your work much faster. 🤙🏼
Is 1/8 steel thick enough for that frame modification
It's fine, it won't ever get finished anyway.
Don't you just love the way people tell Chad how to do everything... If I was like them I would tell them to leave better comments...I'll even tell them what they can say and what they can't say....😊
I can’t wait for you to get under way with this coupe , looking forward to it, let the games begin
Put blocks of wood under chassis to set ride height
2x 4 channel iron ,good stuff
It's cool to see you wearing gloves, especially when grinding away, so close to the hands!!
Turn the wire feed down can you not hear that
I'm loving this build already can't wait for more
Maritime proud
😂
Chad & Jolene it is Tuesday and the frame work begins!
Hi all from Trois-Rivieres Quebec
Why don't you just use rhs sections
Tuesday
Just wanted to say I'm watching the c notch video right now I know Chad needs help once in a while it is so much more interesting and learning more with just Chad on the video the Baldwin brothers kind of take away from his teaching and his work it's a lot less busy in his shop I just feel that people are going to learn more with just Chad and then when he needs assistance have them on there helping him not saying anything bad about them it's just good to see him doing his thing
Just weld it already. Stop with the spot welding.
Also quit using coat hangers on the frame, thing's you don't do unless your Chad
C channel. Looks. Good. And. Strong. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Chad!! Pay attention! Here Rick and David, two donut-munchers Kings Of The Keyboard are really upset with your work. Do something before they loose it, please!!!
@fd4639 Ha, did we hurt your feelings speaking the truth!!!! I just can't see me spot or using coat hangers on the roll cages I build on race car's, if you can't to it right don't do it all.
@@DavidSmith-zv7oqby no means David!! I am just warning Chad!! Imagine you and your friend getting really angry!!
Rat rod lowered I think is what this car is calling for like Jolene race car before the paint
Chad makes it simple. good job, sir.
You need a welding table chad will be so much easier for you
Same thing happened to our welder. New switch was not the answe requied a new control board
Just woke up after pain meds do your thing chad guna watch tomorrow
Hello Chad and Jolene.
Nice project for sure.
Bellos Kustoms does a proper set up of a raised frame section, my advice is to just have a quick look how the master does it and follow suit.
The Frame is one area where this kind of slap together approach won't work , Safety first
I hope you FISH PLATE those cuts and frame modifications .. welds will not hold alone and will require fish plates to pass a road worthy inspection..
It will work fine but better not measure from it for other stuff.
Just wondering how small is the shock and spring going to be
Why do you even bother trying to level shit to the chassis when the chassis isn’t level??😂 The right front tire is almost flat! This whole episode is a frggin’ joke! I think I’ll leave this one.
You can also grind the tops level if they’re off a bit
great as always thanks
Hy Chad n Jolene i watch every day n i love everithin u are very talentfull n it inspire me in my project but there only one thing bugging me that make me ask for a request caan you please clean the paint boot door it was nicely paint bot now its cover in thick dust ( please n thank you ) 🙂
The in side isn't level out side is inside where it counts is not an just weld the dang thing instead of just spot welding OMG 😮
I think my 2 cents car does need channeled some and chopped and that front windshield laid back she's going to be sweet ride
Do you ever check your level for level, turn it end for end and see if it reads the same bubble.
Well done Fina the alarm
what about the Hudson?
He likes to change up on projects
excellant video!
Who cares if it's level. Just measure it and make it the same on the other side man
GOOD JOB!
I like the idea that Chad is taking his time to show us how to guys ...
It should be at less 3 1/16 metal for the the notch and one piece 🤔
If it doesn't Bend in half after he cuts the center out I'll be amazed
