Dude thats rad you brought bikes to those people. I had a guy in my neiborhood that usually rode a bike. He was homeless and somebody jacked his bike and we got to talking and i hooked him up with a rolling BMX that was just taking up space. No sale. I gave him the bike so he could get around and do whatever. Allot of people i knew gave me shit about it cus it was a decent bike. Old school Mosh dj1. "why did you give that bike to that fuckin bum??" Well it did'nt fit me anymore sooo....fuck it. he needed a ride it fit him so fuck it.

Great story. Admirable thing for you to do. Not being able to ride is no different than someone who's use to driving everywhere having to walk or ride the bus/transit. It's a downer. People don't appreciate the thoroughness that's involved in the little things. Especially, when it involves kindness. Yeah he's homeless, but he has places to go too. Let someone bless us with a lift when we really need it the most to get where we're going. That's the point I see.

Lame, that really diminishes a lot of what actual messengers go through and opens it up to a lot more non messeneger pro cyclists,no?
I can only imagine the kind of arguments that happened over this. One side being anti corporate, hardcore messengers not giving a shit about their race being "accepted" by any sanctioning cycling bodies or sponsors and the side wanting to make it big and attract big sponsors along with funding potential of having a race that any government or corporation can safeley get behind.

I am starting my messaging movement, on the bike for the first time. I would like to know what type of bike should I purchase and Do's and the don'ts.
a mtb would be retarded as a delivery bike in a city. Cyclocross if u expect that ure going to do offroad.
othervise get a roadbike or hybrid. if u get 25 or 28mm puncture proof tires then u can drive on gravel etc.
consistency is way more important than light weight and speed.
Thats why i wouldnt go too light. ure going to be driving many hours a day so you need comfort aswell. i think thats why the dude in the video got a steelframe and not a alu or carbonframe.
ull also benefict more from better aerodynamics than ull do from lower weight.
You need to find ur own balance between comfort, weight, reliability, aerodynamics and price.
My best bet would be a steelframe roadbike. i would start out with some good alu or carbon rims with 25mm tires and a drop bar in carbon or alu. after a few days u can decide if ure going to need more comfort. if u get alot og flats then change to puncture proof tires.
you dont have to have a mtb to be consistant...

I've actually worked at a camp and the biggest problem in the camps is the lack of entertainment having a bike gives them lots of oppertunaties

+cspj12 No they're not. They said the fax would end the messenger business and it's still here. Same for email, yet the business is still here. Sure there are things that can be easily emailed but things like clothing (which is what most messengers are delivering these days, along with food), Art, original documents which cannot be emailed because they must require a persons signature must be delivered by bike. Oh and by the time you'd send a drone to go get the package it would have already been delivered.

Plus the CMWC is a fully sanctioned, legal race where the streets are closed so no one gets hurt. The city gets permits for this and the city helps close the street so this can happen. It's perfectly legal.
