Do people think that there were cameras rolling for every game in 1962 and also that every single piece of footage from 1962 survived? The fact that there has been no footage available for this event is not shocking at all... it is actually what you should expect for a regular season game from 1962. Keep in mind, this was an era in which TV stations were regularly discarding old footage. For example, there are still 97 missing episodes of "Dr. Who" from 1967-1978 and those were expensive productions, not some random newsreel footage of basketball games. The only appearance of The Beatles on "Top of the Pops" is essentially lost forever. There is no guarantee that footage was taken or saved from any single event from those days.
He scored multiple 70 plus point games and those are not debated. This 100 point game was just like 8 more made shots and some free throws than those. It’s not that hard to believe.
What they don't talk about regarding this game is that Knicks (who were 29-51 for the season) had their main center foul out of the game in 2nd quarter. Their backup center was injured so duty to be main defender fell on 6'9 rookie PF Cleveland Buckner. Next biggest player on their team was 6'6. Also Philly didn't play defense, as evidence by Buckner scoring 33 that game on 61% shooting. His next best games were 22 and 18 points. He was out of the league in his 2nd season
Doesn’t matter that the Knicks sucked it doesn’t matter who in this case Buckner was guarding Wilt. Nothing matters. The Knicks were an NBA franchise. Wilt scored 100 points in an official NBA game. If he played today against the Mr. Softy defenses And today’s rules where you can’t even touch the player you’re guarding he’d score 200 points in a game!
Wilt actually used an underhand free throw early in his career. The season with the 100 point game, he shot 61%, and was still using the underhand technique. He stopped sometime in the mid 60s and his FT% plummeted to below 40% at one point. He thought shooting underhand was the "sissy" way, even if he made a higher %. Also, remember that even Shaq and Dwight make 85% of their free throws in practice. It's very likely a mental thing with Wilt in games. If he's in that perfect flow state, using the higher percentage underhand technique, it's very possible to have great night shooting free throws.
I did a binomial statistical analysis using his free throw shooting % for the season, since it was 61.3%, which was way higher than his career average. Using that data, I got a 22.6% chance that he would have at least one game that season where he would do as well from the free throw line as he did this game. His free throw shooting wasn't that insane not even counting for things like getting on a hot streak/finding a rhythm. When you play 80 games in a season, getting one "lucky" game isn't that crazy.
Yes there may be no footage of it, but there’s a high chance that the footage was simply lost. I mean it was made in the 1960s, while in the the nba’s infancy.

Another point about Wilt's career free throw percentage, he switched to underhand because of how bad he was shooting normally at the line, after switching he improved dramatically, and the night he got 100 was after the switch. So his career percentage is rather misleading in terms of how well he was shooting around the 100 point game.

2:27 To be fair I think the NBA had no other choice than to publicize a 100 point game from one of the two best players from that era, that being chamberlain and russell, who are both black. Not saying that there wasnt racial bias, but im saying they really didnt have a choice that could imply racial bias because of how dominent chamberlain and russell were.
Kobe's 81 points is far more impressive IMO because he did it with almost all perimeter shots against a much better defensive game. Not against 6'5" white boy Centers & on all easy dunks & layups like Wilt. Also, RIP Jerry West, the second greatest white boy of all time. (Behind only Bird of course)
Whiteboy centers kick black boy centers asses through history dork. The average height for players back then was the same and the centers were 7 footers in Wilt Day. Bird was one of the best players period you racist goof and many white boys were great that's why the Boston Celtics who were always half white have the most championships thanks to the white boys and Bill of course. I always believed white boys were better at all sports except running but we are getting better at that now and soon we will dominate everything and the only undefeated boxer was white lmao. Sorry, I am not the kind that lets others think they are better than us at sports because as a race we are more successful we are better at everything and we have less crime lmao.
Actually he should've been MVP in 1961-62. Averaged 50+ and almost 26, yet they gave it to Bill Russell who had less points, rebounds, win shares and worse field goal and FT percentages. Russell only had more assists, Wilt got robbed big time.
The “why would they lie about a black man in the 1960’s scoring 100 points” comment makes a lot of sense. Racism was still heavy back, it wouldn’t make sense for white people to lie about it.

There is no doubt in my mind Kobe could have scored more than 90+ in the game he scored 81.
Don't reply to my comment I am not a content creator and I don't give a **** about your opinion, just stating mine and the fact (yes fact) he was on pace for 90+ until he was taken out of the game.
2:27 To be fair I think the NBA had no other choice than to publicize a 100 point game from one of the two best players from that era, that being chamberlain and russell, who are both black. Not saying that there wasnt racial bias, but im saying they really didnt have a choice that could imply racial bias because of how dominent chamberlain and russell were.
he must be the goat
Kobe's 81 points is far more impressive IMO because he did it with almost all perimeter shots against a much better defensive game. Not against 6'5" white boy Centers & on all easy dunks & layups like Wilt. Also, RIP Jerry West, the second greatest white boy of all time. (Behind only Bird of course)
It's not when you actually think about it
Whiteboy centers kick black boy centers asses through history dork.
Nonsense.
I met someone who saw the game
Lebum fans are trying to attack every past player
This had nothing to do with lebron
@@YNEForpres I'm stating facts
Fr the bronsexuals are the biggest slapflaces in fricking nba media
It was in 1962 of course there is no film of the game it’s not like today where we can see all the games on tv
Fantastic record
Im not a believer for the 100 point game😂
Actually he should've been MVP in 1961-62. Averaged 50+ and almost 26, yet they gave it to Bill Russell who had less points, rebounds, win shares and worse field goal and FT percentages. Russell only had more assists, Wilt got robbed big time.
The “why would they lie about a black man in the 1960’s scoring 100 points” comment makes a lot of sense. Racism was still heavy back, it wouldn’t make sense for white people to lie about it.
This was a recreational
Mj had a 125 point game
Kobe bryant was just 19 point away so Wilt can get to 💯 points
Bro the warriors used to be Philly 😂😂😂
Footage finally released in the AI era where yall can do anything with videos and pictures. Yeah, I bet it is finally released. Foh.
Agents dumb the reason it doesn't exist is because of both the age and the popularity of the sport at the time most games weren't filmed let alone televised most the games were on the radio.
Kobe earned that like Strahan earned the sack record
I doubt anyone ever touches the record
I’ll believe this video just like the Kennedy assassination explanations!
(Both happened around the same time!)
You think those two things go together? Doesn't say much for your judgement.
I’ll stick with my thinking & judgement!
(Both these stories happened in the early 60s & are still being talked about today!)
One question. Until 1970 the all points count as 1 . There was no 2points or 3points! That means that he scored 200 points?
are you a crack? the field goals were worth 2 points not 1
That’s not at all how basketball works but okay
Nigga everything was counted as 2 points
Back to sleep for you.
They faked the record so no-one could break it basketball is way harder now
if luka can score 73 in a game i see no reason wilt couldnt tbh😂
Imagine being in the nba and you let your man score 100 points 😂😂😂
Weak era
@@laisaechao7289exactly look at the video it's obvious, no good physical defense allowed same right now.
I saw PHILADELPHIA WARIORS
MUFUKKAS BELIEVE JESUS WALKED ON WATER BUT CANT BELIEVE WILT SCORED 100. DAMN. GOAT OVER THE MESSIAH.
How many assists did the pg get just under 30 lol
just show us the whole video instead of talking a lot
Then go watch the video 😅 and the footage is fake
What
"With no one coming anywhere close" kobe had 81 😂
That's not close
That's not close. Its a lot but not close to 100
I just don’t think he made 28 out of 32 free throws under handed. He’s couldn’t shoot free throws.
He could underhanded. He just didn't like the look of it.
Chamberlain lies about everything. His 20k women, his one step free throw dunk, his 48 inch vert.( his head would have been 12 inches over the rim) and his 100 point game. STOP IT.
He didn't say half of those things, it was his friends who spread these
And his very was more than 40 inch, one of the videos on yy decoded it, which is still very special
People who accuse others of lying with no evidence are liars themselves and can't be trusted.
Ben Simmons could have scored 125 pts 😂😂😂😂😂😂😮😮😮😮
Yeah I still call BS on this ngl
