  • These two interviews have been combined into one and were recorded in 2020. Bill, is still with us, and has one of the sharpest memories of anyone I have ever interviewed. Bill Lyons served with the 355th Fighter Group, 357th Fighter Squadron during the Second World War. He arrived in England in September 1944 and flew with the group until 28 March 1945, amassing 63 combat missions, over 300 hours of combat flight time, and 2 confirmed aerial victories.
In this first interview, we go into great detail about Bill's childhood and growing up in New York, what led him into the Army Air Corps, and his cousin, Sylvan Feld, who was a fighter pilot in the MTO and ETO and had destroyed nine German aircraft in the air in the MTO flying Spitfires. Sadly Major Feld was killed, by an Allied strafing run, while he was being held as a POW in France.
