    I don´t understand why you would remove the BCDs when they are giving you better buoyancy and if you were in the sea you may need the air tanks if the waves got up

      Taking off BCD is a standard procedure. Note that a diver is unconscious and not breathing. This requires immediate CPR once getting back on a shore. It is easier to do this in the water. As a rescue diver you're performing a couple things at the same time 1. giving air 2. swim back to the shore 3. preparing for CPR by removing weights/bcd. You start removing equipment once you're getting close to the shore.
