Well of course you didn't need a heavy duty tripod when you use a very lightweight camera. Stick a 600mm f/4 on the Slik and watch it wobble precariously.
Good review. Does the Slik head hold the cameral on the bird after you tighten down or is there movement? Nothing more frustrating that a head that slips a little after you tighten it.
You have to keep the head a bit loose. It takes a while to get used to it. There may be a more $$ tripod from SLIK with a more fluid head. It may also be a bit heavy though.
