  • Benro has introduced what has become my forever tripod, the Mammoth & Wildlife Head. The engineers have combined new materials with common sense and ease of use to produce what I feel is the perfect long glass tripod. There are so many features, so much good stuff I thought it deserved its own video!
You want to cut to the chase, you can order your own at Bedford Camera and mention Moose to get the Moose Discount. www.bedfords.c...

Looking forward to the next video. I’ve been a longtime user of the RRS BH-55. Now I’m doing a little more video so this could be a great solution.

Would have liked to see a few shots of the entire tripod Tom bottom to top but thanks for the video. Can you buy just the head to put on another tripod you own?

Interesting video and an interesting tripod and always on the lookout for a good tripod that goes high. But, I have zero interest in photographing animals, but the legs look useable for landscapes; I love the Benro 3-Way Geared Head.

For a big 600mm f4, would you recommend this over a wimberly head?

The only lenses I use with this are the Z600f4 TC & 800f5.6 AFS as per the video. So yeah, I sure do!

Hey Moose, well I bought the WH15 wildlife head and I am so delighted with it !!!
I wanted to get that silky smooth movement that you get with a fluid head, but with enough counterbalance for a supertele and this head is fantastic on both counts. It's so smooth. The counterbalance,,, well for my old canon 500 f4 and 1dx, it balances on 4 or 5 with extenders. So if I turn it to 8, it returns to level strongly and I'd be confident in using that set up for water fowl with the tripod in the water. As you would say "I love it!".
Thanks for doing the video. There isn't much review info on this head yet and I was nervous. I too prefer it to anything else I've used.
    All the best, Clive

The Wildlife Head is meant for long lenses and not a general head for landscapes. If you're just shooting landscapes, it's the right legs but wrong head :-)

@@MoosePeterson I shoot both but that brings up another question. I switched from Olympus EM1X for Wildlife and with the 300mm being so stabilized on that kit. I never had to use a tripod since I don’t shoot video and I always had my shutter speed bumped up to prevent the animals motion. Now I have my D850 Nikon and picking up a 500mm PF which is Stabilized. So really questing if I need a tripod with that kit.

@@terrywbreedlove I regret but you'd have to tell me the answer to that as I don't know you or your photography. That's a great question, it really comes down to your handholding technique :-)

Hi Moose, this is really interesting. I've been a fluid head user for my long lens work for years. I've recently been trying the Flexshooter, which has advantages in weight and size, but I'm frustrated that it's just not smooth to pan, when compared to a fluid head. Does the Benro WH15 head in your video have fluid drag on the pan as well as the tilt? Is there any "stiction" in the fluid movement on either axis? Is it as smooth as a fluid head like the Sachtler ace xl? What do you prefer about this, vs other fluid heads - lighter than some I guess and as you say, far more reasonably priced than some?

    • @MoosePeterson
      @MoosePeterson  Год назад

all its motion are fluid and superior to any head I've used for stills or video.

What are your thoughts now after owning and using the WH15 Head?
Do you shoot a lot of video?
Does it easily facilitate a diagonal pan+tilt action for VIDEO Smoothly without "stairstepping"?

The Benro website says there's no bubble level on the Mammoth. So, how do you know when the leveling base is level?

correct, there is no but there is on the WIldlife Head where it needs to be level. I use it and those in the Z 9
