    It wasn't long ago that we didn't pay much attention to torque specs. But now, with cast aluminum blocks and much thinner steel all around, fasteners everywhere approach the limits of failure. Sometimes old habits die hard, ha ha.

      Definitely. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before a quick oil change place strips the threads on this new pan lol

    Good job ! I've only done two oil pan replacements in my life. They were both older vehicles that had gaskets so no worries about smearing silicone. I hope you had a little talk with the owner about being 2 quarts low on oil.

      I made sure to bring up the oil problem with the owner 👍

      @@themechanic6117 I was pretty sure you would ! It's amazing to me how many car owners don't even know enough to check their oil regularly .

    @aussieman3582 Год назад

    The thing that was in way was the oil pump feeder. You should also do the timing crank case gasket and timing belt pulleys if you drop the pan. Also pull the battery terminal to reset all sensors and hopefully clear engine check light.

    Admit it, you wanted to steal that steering wheel cover. I always watch a YT video or two before doing something I've never done before or something that's specific to that model. I'm 51 but I'm always open to learning new things that'll make my life easier

      It's definitely a good idea to watch a video before doing the job. So you know what you're getting into. Ha! I'm not going to lie those fuzzy steering wheels do feel soft 😁

    What do you think about a used 2011 Chevrolet Cruze 1.8lt with 43K miles for 7.4K USD? Is it worth taking the deal for a daily driver car despite their issues?

      I wouldn’t waste my money!! I have a 2011 1.8 and it’s been a nightmare, first the 200$ valve cover was leaking and filling spark plug and cylinder with oil, then transmission lost 2nd gear got by for awhile by putting it in manual and skipping 2nd now it won’t go in reverse and after warms up , then just slips and won’t pull.. just always something wrong with em and that’s alittle high on price, heck new they were what 14k, just a cheap non reliable vehicle

    • @ma_junia
      @ma_junia 3 месяца назад

      It will start having constant problem as soon as 60k but I managed to get to 150k with my 2014(1.8, bought at 110k) before it became a real shitbox. Now I'm fixing it every other week because I was irresponsible and didn't have any money saved to buy even a used vehicle 🥴

    Great video we had to do the same on my sonic and everything you said we had done also to the T. So great video. I had one question though. After reusing the dip stick that was with old pan we noticed oil seeping from where it connect into new pan. Was there any rubber grommet in new pan or you had to get out of the opening of new pan? There is a small one around the casing near the bottom but that’s all I saw. I bought a new casing for dip stick and some grommets on top of that but wasn’t sure one was suppose be already in pan before working the casing down in to lock itself? Hopefully that wasn’t two confusing to understand.

    • @themechanic6117
      @themechanic6117  Год назад

      I believe there is a rubber O ring, that going on that tube to stop oil from leaking out.

    • @bigsexysw
      @bigsexysw Год назад +1

      @@themechanic6117 Thanks i was just making sure that the oil pan itself wasnt suppose to have something like rubber gromet built in where the tube fitted. i went ahead and bough a new oil dip stick tube. maybe the old tubes rubber o ring was just to wore out to try to use again since its at 201,000 miles. the tube was rusted so it was about time for a new one.
