So i just got a record player tonight for my birthday, great quality turntable at 29 years old. so my uncle was like " yo go in the basement and go through the full crate of vinyls i have. so this was one of the ones i pulled out. same press the half speed press brand new in the plastic not even opened! . im not even tempted to open it.. might hold on to it till im 80 and pass it down to one of my kids . my uncle hooked me up with a few good vinyls rarely played from floyd, henderix, zepplin, Sinatra, cash, neil young.
OK, you all should just LOVE this little story: I own one of these CBS Half-speed Masters of WYWH. I bought it used at a record store in Houston, TX in the mid 80's called "Tapes - N -T's." (I used to work there - was a GREAT little store!) Anyway, I took it home and it sat for a week before I took it over to a friend's house and we listened to it. There was ONE SKIP in the vinal - just one - but guess where it is? Right after Roger Waters sings "Running over the same old ground..." !!!!!! Yep, MY version of this album goes: "Running over the same old ground, same old ground, but have we found the same old fears?" You cannot tell it is a skip either, it is entirely clean and no 'pop' like a normal skip! I was so blown away, that I never got rid of it. What a miraculous place for that skip! It is amazing.
@@floydspearls380 I wish I could!I do not have the ability to play vinal at the moment! (Wah!) My old turntable broke a couple of years ago and I have not made the effort to get a new one. A couple thousand LPs crated up, incl. many, many bootlegs of concerts, but no way to listen to them. If my situation changes, I'll do it, but otherwise.........8^(
Yes kids , there was a day when after you got home from the record store it was time to open your album. First you enjoyed sniffing the newly pressed vinyl disc, then the cardboard envelope the album came in. It was then time to slap it on the turntable and crank up the volume. After sitting there for a minute or two, you suddenly realized that there was a poster tucked in the album cover. You then proceeded to place said poster on wall. You have arrived. 70's teenager. I Wouldn't trade it for anything.
You missed some things: reading every word on the spine and back cover. Also, if it had a lyrics sheet reading what they ACTUALLY sung, and not you thought they sung. Good days.
@@victorstep1975 Victor, sometimes it is better to listen and keep your mouth shut. You might even learn something. But I assume you already know everything, so I digress. Just stop being a dick!
Ничтяк Ничтяк Ничтяк 🔥🔥🔥,я помню этот диск я не одну сотню раз ставил его на вертушку конце 70х,и каждое прослушивание все больше и больше завораживали эти мелодии ✨
Totally. It’s a poignant finale not only to the track and the album, but to this chapter in the band’s journey. They would sound very different from now on. There are some incredibly moving live performances of this piece from the ‘75 - ‘77 period. The quiet Mr Wright had the last word here.
when in college, I'd come home to a house to myself, helped my father install speakers in the basement and living room, half volume could blow the roof off the place
Great band Pink Floyd! The band is just fantastic! That is really what I think! Oh by the way! Which one is Pink? Great Album part 2 of the Superfecta! The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall! Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? Remember how she said that We would meet again Some sunny day? Vera, Vera What has become of you Does anybody else in here Feel the way I do??? November 2020 will the ending of the darkness! And the beginning of our Sunny days just like Vera promised! So far this sounds quite good, if perhaps, just a tad "bright" to my grizzled ears, and a tiny bit of surface noise, perhaps, at times. I did buy the latest CD remaster of WYWH, in fact most of the newer remasters (I thought DSOM sounded dreadful!), and this may or may not beat the sound of that latest remaster (probably does, a bit, because it's orig. vinyl half-speed), but I will say that they both sound good, but that the latest remaster is REALLY well-done and can match this half-speed version for sure, I believe. The newest DSOM remaster was a massive let-down. It didn't even sound listenable, and wasn't even a tenth as good sounding as my original mid-80s Japanese CBS DSOM CD pressing. I compared the two, no contest.
Part of the now age-old issue: CD's, mp3's, and mp4's, are so much cleaner, but don't have the high end response of vinyl. I am hearing high end on this recording that I haven't heard since before I wore out my first vinyl copy of this in 1977.
J Marshall Fry Yep, sometimes that’s a good thing: at least you’re getting the detail back, and it doesn’t sound muddy, still has that vinyl dynamic range.
That's the idea. It goes to 'Wish you were here', and the beginning of the song is meant to be like someone is listening to the song on the radio and then grabs his guitar and joins the song.
I agree. The engineers must have been high, lol. I'm sure you were kidding though. I remember getting the vinyl from Tower Records in Buena Park in the mid 80's when I was a teenager.
When I first heard that on the release of the album ('76')?, I thought I'd overdosed on the drugs I was doing. So many new ideas from a 'rock band' at that time, Floyd were and are unique.
Yes I can tell the difference between Heaven and Hell. it is absolute nothingness and there is no material matter to create gravity for time to dilate to. And I pray to God I will never have to experience it ever again and I will do whatever it takes. But how do I know you're the one true God and you're not lying to me and trying to trick me?

Great Progressive Rock of Ages... Masters !...
From 19:45 onwards, one of the most underated pasages of contemporary jazz ever.. Superb!
I was never sure what to call 19:45 --- but it's a very tasteful and heartfelt piece of music, about their lost Bandmate...

I don't know how I missed this one!!! Sounds incredible.

Israel Q, Thanks for sharing this memorable music, THE best in band for me, The real Pink Floyd until Waters left!
not enough people truly appreciate how good that first crash cymbal sounds at 00:10 seconds in.
Excellent audio!
I've got this CBS Mastersound vinyl too, i also got Chicago Transit Authority album on the CBS Mastersound Gold Disk, Awesome - thanks
That's one of the flattest, roundest, best sounding dust free piece of vinyl on this planet.

Esse LP eu tenho na coleção, extremamente fantástico.
Tá bem de quarentena aí então. rsrs
I like the LP playing the whole time. I can move the needle without scratching tf out of it!

Teenager: "is that real vinyl?"
Me: "does Roger the hat sound high on 'Dark Side of the Moon'?"
at 4:52 there's an awful drop on quality, bet then it gets fixed.

Lol like if it was recorded from a old am radio like I did when I was a kid.
That's the idea. It goes to 'Wish you were here', and the beginning of the song is meant to be like someone is listening to the song on the radio and then grabs his guitar and joins the song.

17:47 San Andreas soundtrack ? :)
No, but Floyd on a GTA soundtrack would be awesome.
What song is this at the very beginning
Have a Cigar
Why is it named "half speed"? I hear it the same as always
It's a vinyl cutting mastering technique...
Sorta like burning a CD on your computer - slower speed recording is going to give you a better recording.
That or you're always high when listening to Floyd 😉
@@markiefufu i've never been high in my life, not even once
