I had never thought about fish before. I've done birds, squirrels, dogs, flowers, torsos and, many other things but I'll give it a whirl and surprise my grandkids who loves fishing with me
I watched this 2 years ago and made a fish trying to use this technique ...and it worked( 4 what I was doing).... Rewatched today and helped me all over again... Thank you
Great insight into creation. I too have a metal shop (Laser Welding) and have made items that amuse me. I've thought of entering competitions, but "I'm scared" of winning because I dont have formal artist qualifications. I've been to the University of Life. Daily I fix the impossible , play with the capabilities of doing nano sized sculptures 10mm High and really just want to shut shop and do what you do on a nano scale. I think I might do a nano fish...an Aussie Barra. You have inspired me.
This was awesome! Thank you for giving me an insight into the metal sculpture world! I am writing a book about a metal sculpture artist, so this really helped put things into perspective. :) Thanks again. :)
Amazing work. I love the way they are curved and actually look like they're swimming. I think you could add 'skill' to the list of things required to make these. Greetings from Shiraz, Iran
i love this! you're so talented. the way they're sculpted makes them so real! i would love to learn to do this sort of thing but im new to the art scene. i have a lot of learning to do! thank you for sharing your gift!
Great video for the person who is trying to make something like yours with metal art... But I think you set a trend on how to make any video on how to make things!!! Awesome!
@gorgeousgordon well done gg a I like to bash bits of steel around myself and I am well impressed with your way of doing things and especially your methods, must admit mate when I,m on low or needing inspiration watching you at work does the trick keep up the good work mate.
very cool video, srry about the people that have no clue about metal art and the skills required to create in a metal medium...all in all a very good video that shows the labor involved in creating in steel...not to mention the tools and skills involved, I create fish also, and have sold some of my pieces for over 200 dollars, have you ever looked into metal coloring?....anyway very cool....Jay
That was great g. Feel like iv had a lesson in sculpture. I want a go lol Your filming and editing was really well done, ur getting very good at it g!!! and your right the music is perfect. Nice one A+ : 0 ) xxx
Very nice work. Don't change your technique because the end result is beautiful. But I do need to comment on your grinding safety. You need to take the gloves off lest they get in the grinder and you lose a finger. For eye safety you need a face shield when grinding. Flying steel sparks can find their way behind your glasses and easily take out your eye.
you're amazing Gordon!!...thanks for posting this - some neat tricks/techniques in there. Just iout of curiosity - what thickness of steel did you use and what size rods?
great job....love what you made....was it a custom order or did you market it after you made it?....I too make custom metal parts but not exactly what you do....You are a true "Metal Artist"...
great video gg, i am very new to metal art and this helped explain a lot of the process, thanks for taking us through the steps you use. Can i ask what thickness of sheet metal you use?? Did you have to anneal it first before you hammered it?. Have a Merry Xmas and thanks again, cheers :-)
blimey! .... you don't want much ..... ball pein hammers (various sizes), plasma cutter, angle grinder, abrasive flap discs (grits 40-120), pliers, electric arc welder, old tree stump with various shapes grooved out (for forming the steel, mild steel sheet 1.5mm), vice, experience
@liviaawarren you can see at about 3:30 the gill shapes being formed ... i then welded them onto the face, cleaned it up and cut the mouth out with a cutter blade in my grinder ........ does that make sense?
i got the metal from a sheet metal fabricator/supplier, if you turn up and ask for off-cuts nicely they might oblige (it helps if you're gorgeous like i am) .... i used 1.5mm mild steel sheet ..... it took about 12 hours to make .... i wear a size 9 shoe and my favourite colour is green x
Excuse the ignorance ...but what is the name of that flaming metal cutter tool you use and what brand do you recommend. Love the video and art. Thank you.
I think your missing the reason for the slag! The slag gives him the extra material to grind leaving behind a textured surface. The slag is part of his sculpture!
two things spring to mind here ,,, treat yourself to a mig welder , it would make your life so much easier ,,,,, and put the guard back on the grinder ,,, a few missing fingers will make your life so much tougher.
Or you can do it the easy way... Cut both parts @ same time, wield them together, put them in the fire, insert a compressor tube in, add air... and voilaaaaaaa
You will never get into it. You need to just do it and not think about it. TIP: Start with metal sheets and go buy the tools needed as to get better and better. Start with old door hinges and weld boxes.
@@gorgeousgordon Love the track, I'm actually digging through the comments trying to find what it is. Sounds like Greyhound recordings stuff from the 90s or maybe something on NHK. What is it?
After so many years and still this video. Great job my friend
I had never thought about fish before. I've done birds, squirrels, dogs, flowers, torsos and, many other things but I'll give it a whirl and surprise my grandkids who loves fishing with me
Gordon, thank you for taking the time to share this with us all. You have mad skills!

you are inspiring another generation of artists..my six year old said cooooool can we watch it again!
Love getting baked and watching this stuff...its therapeutic.
I have made many fish after watching your video. Thanks for the inspiration!
That’s great to hear Dan, where can I take a look at your fish?
Of the fish on the stump at the end of the video my favorite is the second one. But they are all good. Makes me want to try my hand at it. Good video.
Gordon, great video. In fact, thank you, yours was inspiration for my fish sculpture video. Looking forward to seeing more of your video uploads.
I have to admit when i first started watching this i thought it was lame, but then after a quick fast forward, it looked pretty good.
Nice job.
you make it look easy! with minimal equipment too. very cool and nice work. .you have inspired me.
Hey Gordon...brilliant film...these how to make films are a great idea....would like to see you smoke a salmon next.....

Someone needs to buy this guy a wire feed welder!!!
He has a plasma cutter so he's half way into the 21st century!!!

Excuse the ignorance ...but what is the name of that flaming metal cutter tool you use

Chris Rust That is a plasma cutter, but you need a compressor to use it as well. Some do have inbuilt compressors, but are quite expensive.
Got it, thank you.
Thank you , i was going to ask the same thing !
hey great job. what gauge steel are you using, cheers
Great job and you are stick welding the pieces together. This is something I need to try with my everlast welder
Love it!!!

I'm happy with it .... what music would you have used?
