  • Sunday in Brunei surprised me a lot, actually I had no idea what it would be like and what would happen. Talking not Brunei in general but about the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. I was planning on showing the morning and parts of my morning routine anyway so I was quite surprised to see what happened. And I was no longer one of a very few that actually had this sort of morning routine.... But please, do come along and see for yourself.

I think most if not all cities should have what is called Car Free Hours on Sundays. Kuala Lumpur has it but only for 3 hours. It gives cities time, at least for a while, to "breathe".

There's a lot of those greediness in full display, you can even be at the other end of it as a local. I remember those degen nights going to the cyber cafe where they would charge you a dollar per hour, 50 cent for half an hour. There were times where I would peruse the service from 8:02 pm to 12:05 am and they would still charge me as if I was on their services for 4½ hours. So I had to pay 4:50 just because of those extra 5 minutes. I don't mind paying for those services, it's not a whole lot but the lack of dignity really are rampant and truly disgusting, especially in these type of family-owned businesses around the commercial Gadong area. Don't know if it's owned by the same Chinese family as the ones that you guys were staying in but I wouldn't be surprised if it was, the cyber cafe was somewhere around those area in Gadong as well. Just another stain to make the whole country look bad, hope you had a great time in Brunei though despite these greedy Muppets conducting themselves selfishly and taking advantage of tourists.

Brunei is quite a lax country actually, there's alot of tomboys too 🤣🤣 but yeah, we're still syariah law, but we're not on the extreme end as most western media would think. e.g it's not simple or easy to sentence someone using syariah law, so most of the criminal offences in Brunei are still mostly using Civil law...for decades no person have been hanged or hands chopped of because of syariah law and yet we still live our life normally 😁😁

It's so easy and irresponsible for (as you call them) 'Whiteys' vloggers to be judgemental and joke about the Shariah law without even understanding how it really works. Civil law still prevails in Brunei, and the complexity of Shariah law here is less severe than in Middle Eastern countries. Also, if anyone cares to Google, the first and last execution in Brunei was in 1957 while it was still a British Protectorate. We're also an Islamic country; do people expect us to follow the laws of other countries? The USA spoke about equal rights, but still, the LGBTQ are victims of bullying/murder, school shootings aplenty, and women still don't get full rights regarding what they can do to their bodies, especially on the issue of abortion. So please, if you're a traveler, keep off the country's politics. There's no perfect government, and they certainly don't represent how the people actually are.

@@yvesthesleeve If he's Bruneian he is being ungrateful. If he's non-Bruneian you can sense the bitterness he has towards Bruneians who literally do not need to really strive to lead a decent live. There's a lot of them out there. Bruneians that wants it can get subsidised housing (BN$75000 for a 3 bedroom house that can be paid in installments interest-free - for as low as B$100+/month and up - according to one's income and ability to pay. Tax-free income, free top of the class healthcare and education (up to PHD level with monthly allowances to boot). Subsidised fuel, electricity, water, and rice. Affordable priced fresh produce incl meat, any many more perks that our neighbours lack.
With a citizen population of just 300,000+ and a sovereign fund that is in the BN$100,000,000,000+ it'll be a long, long time before that gets depleted (something that some outsiders wish to happen sooner LOL). On top of that it's not like Brunei's economy and investments are regressing - In fact it is expanding. New oilfields are found,, New Petrochemical manufacturing were built and expanded. Other industries are explored and successfully developed incl hydrogen fuel, methanol, fertilizer, pharmaceutical and many more. Slowly, yes, but again, with a very, very small population count it will continue to prosper for decades, perhaps centuries. InsyaAllah.
