    I had always wanted a Bosch Axial-Glide 12" Miter Saw - amzn.to/3HU6qdC - and when I finally upgraded I was not disappointed. The main feature is the patented "Axial-Glide" system allows the saw to take up less of a footprint on your work bench or miter station. Unfortunately I had to sell it in order to downsize my shop but I still wanted to get this unbox and review out there to help you if you are looking at this saw. Bosch is also coming out with a battery version of their axial glide saws so this still might be relevant to helping you in your search.

    I just bought the Bosch Surgeon 12-in 8-Amp 18-volt Dual Bevel Cordless Miter Saw with Laser Guide (Model #GCM18V-12GDCN14) and am starting to unbox it.

    I didn't even know that saw existed! It seems the main benefit is the compact depth of the unit...if depth was not a factor which would you pick, DeWalt or Bosch?

    • @diywithandrew
      @diywithandrew  2 года назад +2

      The axial glide is definitely a strong benefit! If depth wasn’t an issue, I have to say I’m partial to the DeWalt because of the handle and the blade light shadow that gives an accurate cut line! I missed the DeWalt shadow line feature heavily on this Bosch.

    It’s a great saw, I was lucky enough to find mine for 500 new in box with receipt, guy had a bunch of HD store credit and the best way to recover some money is to sell tools at a discount

    Great saw, glad I got one a couple years ago. The only issue I have is the dust collection...as you found out. It is not the best...terrible if I am being honest. However, with all the other features, I have learned to live with the terrible dust collection.

      Dan Pattison has done a mod for this - just search 'Bosch Axial Glide Dust Collection Upgrades & Mods' on RUclips to find it. I don't think any mitre saw does a particularly good job out the box with dust collection, especially without a vac hook up. Always improved with a hood.

      @@diywithandrew there’s a video on RUclips where a guy made a longer chute at the front of the saw just under the blade, also the hard on the elbow can’t be helping. I’m having the hardest time deciding 10” or 12” or go with the newer Makita. It’s killing me, it’s a lot of money. I’m also considering the Metabo that’s similar to Makita but quality doesn’t seem that great, idk.

    What is the little red knob that pulls out used for ? It’s located under the saw blade in the center of the bevel joint behind the fence.

      That is the Bevel Detent Pin (Crown Molding Setting) - When engaged, it locks the head assembly to the bevel angle of 33.9° to the left or right.

    From front to back how deep is it. I’m remodeling my master bath, I’m taking the 109 inch vanity to become my miter saw station. It’s 22 inches wide. Will that fit.

    Bot my bosch dual bevel back in 2006 and have used it on 6 -7 houses I framed since. Absolutely the best saw I ever owned. Unfortunately it just died in its tracks a few days ago., after 16 years of moderate use., Probably a bad switch , brushes? using a saw now that has the bevel control in the back and it is like Ive been sent back to the minor leagues. Good saw but spoiled from the front lever for the bevel control.

      I am on the market for a mitre saw and was playing today with that particular model , either the display model was not good or there was something wrong with it , I noticed when it extends it deflects alot to the point that can dig in to the insert plate , I had bosch the old rail models and that took me trough 12 years until it got stiff on the rails , I own Milwaukee mitre extremely unhappy with it , narrowing my selection on the dewalt flex 12" or the 780 model
