I remember going to this park when it was Storytown USA. I still have a lot of old pictures of myself when I was a little kid here. I have vague memories. This was back in the 70's when my family took me there. The things I remember are the Humptey Dumptey on the wall. I remember old Mother Hubbard's shoe and you could climb to the top of it and slide down a sliding board off of it. I remember there was a bunch of little storybook houses. I remember one that had Peter Pan in it. There were buildings with interactive displays where you would push buttons and make animatronics move. I recall one that was essentially a workshop where you would push a button and wood would move through a conveyor belt and Rube Goldberg setup to be made into stuff. There was this lake and a cliff that had a waterfall. There was a cave that went through and wound it's way up the cliff behind the waterfall and when you got to the top and got out of the cave, it led to a Western town where there were gunfights in the street. I remember that the sounds of the guns scared me. I also remember that they had this "dragon ride" that was essentially like a tram that drove on a scenic circuit through the woods. I remember enjoying that ride when I was a kid. I was REALLY little when I went but I still remember some of the details. This park, now, looks NOTHING like I remember it looking. Oh... and some of those little storybook buildings that you looked at, and the Alice in Wonderland walking trail, I absolutely remember those. I especially remember going in that little church. It hasn't changed much since the 70s. 5 or 6 year old me actually set foot in some of those little buildings and stuff you checked out and seeing them was kind of surreal.
When I was a kid in Niagara I used to ride the comet at it's original location in Crystal Beach often. At night they would run a train with the front two cars facing backwards. It was such a great park in its day, and it makes me happy to see people are still enjoying the comet in 2024. In it's original location the first bend after the lift hill was right on the edge of lake Erie, and it always felt like you were going to fly off the track into the lake.
Thank you. Those rides on the Comet brought back some great childhood memories. I grew up in Buffalo and the Comet's original park, Crystal Beach, was a short drive over the Niagara River. The Comet was my first coaster and remains the standard that I've compared every other coaster to since. The Comet is still the best! Thank you again...Great memories!
The park has a lot of charm, especially in the front half of the park. Bobcat was an excellent addition, and I hope to see more improvements to the park. Lots of work to be done.
I was just at the park today. Spot on that this park is weird beyond words. Two different worlds with gorgeous landscaping and cute old theming, and a six flags shaped stain in the form of its 3 god awful steel coasters. Ive never been to a park that filled out the bottom of my list more than the middle or top. You definitely go here for the flat rides and the woodies. Comet and Bobcat are both like easy 8/10 woodies.
I feel your pain, I said those same words and alot more , on mine train, flashback and steamin demon last week and it got worse at Darien Lake the next day, lol
I don’t know if it was because I was on a wheel seat but when I rode Comet the first time I rode it in the very back row and it was painfully rough. When I rode it in the front I enjoyed it a lot more
Great video! Ive never seen so many bad coasters at a park as this park. The 2 wooden coasters looked good though. Im looking forward to the next video!
One thing you got wrong about the history mate. It opened as Story Town (which is where over 1/2 of the buildings inside are from). The owners, a local family, then decided to rename it “The Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom”. In between the two seasons they built the entire water park, had The Comet reassembled where it stands today, and added a fresh new paint to everything. They owned “The Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom” until December of the following year (1998) - Premier Parks (now six flags) then stepped in and offered them an undisclosed amount for the park, promising a 10 million dollar investment within the first year. They also kept the family there as management for another decade. In 2008, the family and Six Flags parted ways.
That big flat ride that you loved.....a long time ago, there was one at Dorney Park as an upcharge ride. I loved it back then, it was right where Possessed is now. I think they said it went like 70mph.
good news for you Marc! i got info from staff that Steamin Demon is the next coaster to be replaced, probably by a B&M floorless or a small RMC Raptor!
My home park! Can agree with the steel coaster lineup, it’s atrocious. The wooden coasters are easily the 2 best coasters. Glad you loved comet, definitely a guilty pleasure for me. Also because of how you enjoyed Steamin Demon’s view, I’m glad you rode Adirondack outlaw. It’s the same view but elevated much higher. Longest wait, but it’s worth it.
Adirondack Outlaw looks insane. I'd try it and it looks fun but that time at the top just sitting there waiting for something to happen would make me nervous! Thanks for sharing!
The park has such potential. Hopefully the new arrangement with Cedar Fair will benefit them. Go look at some of the lighting packages on European scramblers (twisters) and imagine that inside that dome. That would be epic.
I grew up and still live in the area. I’m shocked you didn’t do the Condor. The in the air Scrambler. I am now scared of it ONLY because the ride is over 40 years old and I have been scared of it. I’m worried being that old safety is going to overlook stuff. I also remember the Bobsled when the carts were different.
I have ridden the comet in crystal beach Ontario Canada, I have been on it backwards and front wards, it was my first big roller coaster I miss it, thanks for sharing this coaster, it's one of the best roller coasters❤😅😂
I went to great escape on the 12th, and Steamin demon is a back row ride. You take those transitions slower, so its not as bad and the drop has airtime and the loop is intense. Anyway comet is insane in the front, one of my favorite coasters in general up there.
We did Speed of Sound at Walibi Holland (a Vekoma Boomerang) yesterday. The ride was good. They removed the awesome soundtrack though. It was a walk-on. ?Last year we waited for like 45 minutes. Now the crew encouraged re-rides. Strange thing: Untamed was terrible because of the restraints. Condor the SLC was - dare I say it - more enjoyable. Goliath in front and back was great. Lost Gravity was amazing and smooth.
I hope you ended up trying the extreme supernova flat ride that’s right next to the comet. Even though it looks small. There is a crazy amount of positive g”s that blew be away.
I thought I was going to throw up just from watching you on Adirondack outlaw. I am very afraid of heights. My knees buckle every time I even look up at it.
My childhood home park! Comet was my first ever coaster. Steamin Demon was my first BAD coaster. I had almost nothing to compare it to and I still knew it was trash lol
Steamin demon is my least favorite coaster with 400+ credits and Adirondack Outlaw is my favorite flat ride anywhere. It’s very funny that their entrances are right next to each other.
I sware that canyon blaster was much better last year, no idea why it is so rough now. Fun fact: the first ride to open at what is now the great escape is the swan boats. Another fact: at the pervous park that canyon balster operated at it had 3 trains blue, brown, red when it was relocated to great escape it was modified to only be able to operate with 1 train. There are pictures on the internet of it opperating with the blue train at great escape but I have never seen that my self.
so with the Comet i believe something like 60-70% of the steel structure is was reused from the Crystal Beach Cyclone. this is actually the best the Comet has been running since the pandemic with each year it keeps getting a little better. so hopefully the park keeps doing what they are doing and it keeps improving.
@@k9feces they did primarily the lift hill and lift equipment. There were a couple other spots touched up there they did a couple top sections of the track but not a full replacement.

I gotta revisit glad to see it's still a nice little park 😌 but they do need some new rides yall were spot on ! great review of the park 😊
The Steamin Demon’s layout reminds me of the Corkscrew at Cedar Point. I can’t ride the Corkscrew as every time I ride, it bangs my head around and it gives me a headache. The third roller coaster you all rode has the and layout as Invertigo at Kings Island. When Paramount owned it, it was called Face Off. Sorry, just giving some trivia. Also, I love the other peoples reaction when they realize they are on camera.
Canyon Blaster was my favorite roller coaster as a kid, it definitely was faster even with nostalgia goggles blinding me. The roughness mustve changed it. The last time i was on it was over a decade ago, and on the spiral i slammed my face against the metal restraint and had a huge lump the whole trip. It sucked
My only other complaint about the rides is the Supernova. I don't care if it's smaller and more boring than Harley Quinn at SF New England. The Supernovas restraints are too loose, th3y need the tight Harley Quinn ones. If they want those air time restraints they need a weight MINIMUM. They are asking for someone to perish, and it was almost me last year. Good Samaritan next to me helped hold me down. At 23 years old I'm just too small for that ride. And the attendant didn't care it's actually ominous seeing you recording it knowing what's it's like on it
i used to go there all the time especially in elementary and middle school (1996-2002 or so). i mostly lost interest in going after they got rid of the rotor and when i (at least i believe) got too big for the go-karts.
