- Radiolab turns its gaze to the topic of endings, both blazingly fast and agonizingly slow, in its 2013 live show Apocalyptical.
With our signature blend of storytelling, science and music, hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich romp through hundreds of millions of years of history to arrive at the end, again and again.
Comedians Reggie Watts and Kurt Braunohler join the party, while musicians On Fillmore and Noveller create a cinematic live score before your eyes. Recorded live on stage in Seattle.

Who's here in 2020? I've been listening to so much radiolab during rona..
I listened to the audio version and just had to come and see reggie do it live.
Found Radiolab during one of the lowest point of my life 4 yrs ago when I was 17.... don't know why it took so much time to find this. You changed what storytelling was to me. I wish I could do something like this for others.
You can. You can go into broadcasting, or journalism, or theater production. You CAN. Don't wish, you can make it happen. Live your dream. Your entire life is in front of you. Take it from someone who is at the end of her life now. It all goes by so fast.
I'm only moments into it and blown away, it hadn't occurred to me that I've listened to every Radiolab podcast and had no idea what the hosts looked like. O'd just created an image in my head based on their voices. It took me a few moments to figure out why some guy was speaking with what seemed like "the wrong voice". It's a very strange feeling seeing these guys for the first time.
My girlfriend and I were present at this filming! Amazing show. Radiolab is such a wonderful achievement in modern media and storytelling :)
Hey, thats nice. Do you think this was cut down to two hours? Our is this the full ,complete show?
I can't believe you made me shed a tear for puppet that's been dead 65 million years (@43:00)
These two gentlemen are amazing human beings. This program has repeatedly sent me into dizzying thought spirals where I have to sit alone and think to full comprehend some of the things i've learned from this. Keep up the great work gents, you're making the thirst for REAL knowledge cool again!
This is the best thing I've seen on the internet for a long time
+Shropenstein Right?! Its pretty interesting topic and very well presented and funny too.
This radio show gave me two correct answers for my Chemical Engineering board exam. SERIOUSLY. I have been an avid listener for almost three years and these guys never fail to entertain, to educate, and most of all, to make me feel more human with each episode. I don't always advertise but hell, if you want to think better, SUBSCRIBE TO THEIR PODCAAASSSSTTTT!!!
This is a truly masterful production. Thank you for for making such fascinating, high-quality, informative and well-researched 'entertainment.' This is truly a million cuts above anything else available on radio, televison or the web.
I've listened to this program for years, but this was the first time I saw a live tour production. It is incredibly stimulating on so many levels - audio, visual, imagination. I learned more about the end of the dinosaurs from this program than I did from any school lesson. Plus - who made those dinosaur costumes!? Very impressed.
heard the Apocalyptica podcast on Radio 4 Extra (UK) this morning (August 2020) and searched for & found this video- Managed to sync the radio programme to this, so turned down the video sound so I could listen on my radio! Is that weird or what? Now I'm back, watching the whole video. Wonderful music & visuals and Reggie Watts too- and a dinosaur puppet!! And finally being able to see what Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich actually look like too makes it all so special. Thank you Radiolab!!!
I have watched and told soo many people about this. This is the best. They are great..
Thanks Radiolab for sharing the live show with all of us. I very much wanted to see the show when you came to Cleveland, but I had my own performance that required my presence. I look forward to your continued mind shaping work. Tony Sterns.
Recently discovered Radiolab, working my way up from the oldest podcasts. Just finished listening to the audio version of this one, so of course I have to watch the entire thing now. :)
What a treat to make this available online! Well worth 2 hours of your time.
As I live in the UK and have a fear of flying, I get a feeling I will never get to see you guys live, so thank you for posting this online, kept me glued to my computer screen for two hours, something that is very rare. Your stuff is awesome and so inspiring. Keep up the great work :)
brilliant, brilliANT, BRILLIANT show, all; PHENOMENAL SHOW! Wow, I would be in awe seeing this in person. Forget musical concerts. This was mind-bending. The presentation, the effects, the audio, the visual -- all flawless. Immense props given to all involved with this concert. Bravo to all, bravo.
And thank you from Sioux Falls, SD.
Reward your ears and eyes. Feed your brain.
Watch as those Radiolab guys paint your ears with sound and make your eyes hear the colour of thought.
An eclectic surrealist/impressionistic art in science show.
Thank you. This is just incredible. You two are the most amazing people and thank you for putting it together and sharing with us!!!!!
This live performance is just incredible. Really amazing stuff, Radiolab. I wish I could have made it out when you were in Chicago!
Radiolab's Apocalyptical show is yet another wonderful podcast from NPR. After listening to it, I had to watch the video, and it was even better. My 13 year old son also enjoyed it, particularly the new version of the end of the dinosaurs. Thanks you so much!
Many thanks to the Radiolab team for the upload. I'm from Australia so it was wonderful to watch two guys that I've been listening to for quite some time now. As usual brilliant work. Thank you so much!
Great show guys! Thank you for posting it on RUclips.
Man! I just heard the audio from this on KPCC last night and was fascinated by it, and now watching the video (and I haven't even seen it all yet) I'm really taken by it. It's a kind of magical combination of the best of what makes live theater special, science, music and oratory, all in one. Really just a marvelous production.
Iv watched this like 5 times since its came out... Love it and your show!
The music, i believe is a direct presentation of what your thoughts would sound like when they start to begin bouncing around in your brain. I love that. Its like a soundtrack for my thoughts.
In case of world destroying asteroids, DIG.
Got it. Thanks Radiolab.

Radio lab Live - Apocalyptical
Beautiful show. Just beautiful.
Listening to one episode of RadioLab is more effective at teaching than attending a whole semester of even the most interesting class.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Repeat watcher. Thank you, Radiolab...

Truly amazing both scientifically and artistically. Thank you!!
This is an AMAZING Radiolab show... funny, fascinating, even if you've listened to it as radio... it's a must-see. Puppets, comedy, music, and what we've always wondered... what really happened to the dinosaurs?
Just...AWESOME!!
Loved this show
I need a dvd of this. Absolutely outstanding.
1080p video on RUclips isn't enough ^-^?

@12:24 is when Jad and Rob actually come on stage.
You are totally awesome. This is an amazing show. the end
Fantastic!
I'd bet that was a fun gig for the musicians, Like, "Hey, we have the challenge to do the music kinda like Pink Floyd, Ummagumma days". Very trippy.
Also, Reggie Watts is a bad-ass.
AMAZING!!!!!!!
I'd love this on a DVD. A great way to contribute too.
This is brilliant
I love Radiolab. And Reggie Watts was amazing!!!!
They literally look exactly as I imagined

Did Jad really manage all the things here? The dialog, the interview cuts, the music? He really did an awesome job!
Amazing
Splendid.

Jad's reaction to Reggie is perfect. "Did that just happen?"

I must have listened to every Podcast 3-4 times. It will be good to put faces to some of the protagonist now. Strange but good......I hope.

So good! I absolutely love the podcast and knew the live show would not disappoint. Now I really want to make one of those giant dinosaur costumes for next Halloween. Who wouldn't buy that guy a drink?
Love Radiolab :)
Kudos!
Fun thing, I actually have a bit of bismuth on my nightstand right next to me.
Poor Robert lost his glasses haha. You could see him looking for them by the end after the dinosaur knocks them off!
Vocês são demais!
