I had the same issue it was the fuel gauge that was inverted, I fixed mine over a year ago it was really simple, I got a thin piece of foam that was 3/4 to 1 inches thick, I cut it in the shape of the speedometer, I took apart the speedometer which doesn’t have ant screws once you have it off the car just pop the open put the foam behind the speedometer circuit and close it up. I realized when I press the speedometer it starts working so something must be loose after 14 years of driving. The foam just keeps pressure on the circuit board so it has good contact with LCD screen. Bada bing bada boom there you have it.

BULLI KID, this video, combined with your dash disassembly video, is amazingly helpful. I just spent a couple hours doing my wife's 2008 Civic and you made the process so easy. The fuel gauge and the digital speedometer were messed up. Many of the pins were loose and only required reheating to reset the solder, but some seemed to not have enough solder, so using a very small soldering iron I was able to re-solder them. I can't imagine how much this would have cost as a dealer repair/replacement, but you sir have saved the day!

The dealer would have just swapped out the entire assembly and it would probably have cost more than a 2008 civic is worth at this point, no joke.
Not sure why they would skimp on the solder at the factory. Yeah we know companies try to shave EVERY expense but how much do they save per dash by skimping? Maybe 5 whole cents?

This is a great video. I have had this exact problem in my 07 Civic for probably 6 years. I remember googling it like crazy when it first happened and couldn’t find anyone with this issue so it’s awesome to see others with the exact same issue. I just push on the gauge and it will come back. Sometimes if I hit a bump it will come back lol. I probably won’t fix it because that’s a lot of work and I can still tell my fuel level with it being inverted, but it’s awesome to know exactly what the issue is (and isn’t!) and to know how to fix it if I decide to. Thanks!

Great video! I was occasionally getting the inverted fuel gauge, as well as a segment on the speedometer that would flicker. I cleared away the conformal coating that was on the board, which revealed cracks in the soldering for the pins. Make sure you are using a soldering iron with a very fine point.

Did this over Thanksgiving. Watch the video for how to take apart the dash first. I just resoldered all of the gauge connections. Used a very small tip soldering iron. I reheated each connection, moved the wire a little, and added more solder. Used a clamped magnifying glass to see what I was doing. It has been about two weeks and it is still working perfect. Used to invert pretty much every day. You can complete this job in less than 90 minutes.

@@BulliKid I don't doubt it!! I hope you've upgrading your soldering iron and solder since then though! haha!! That would have saved you some time. But hopefully it will work well enough to survive for the rest of the life of the car. Friend had took theirs to a shop and they said it wasn't worth fixing and they couldn't get the replacement part. Not sure if that was just the fuel display or the entire instrument cluster, but it was so expensive that they didn't even give them a quote. But thanks for the video. Definitely gives us something to consider.

Watched this video a few times after I got my 07 Civic a couple months back. Finally had the time to take mine apart...
Just want to say, thank you sir, for devoting the who knows how many hours, sweat, and tears, to figure this out so the rest of us could just hop in our cars, take it out, and implement the fix you figured out for the rest of us.
Mine had an excessive amount of flux paste covering all of mine, had I had some flux remover and a solder vac, It would have been much easier for me, but with extra time, patience, and perseverance, I was able to get all my contacts cleaned up decently, and resoldered all the pins.
Happy to say my fuel gauge is now working properly again thanks to you sir 👍🏻

Thanks for this video. The important part is you showing the actual pins that needed re-soldering. I just did this procedure, and my fuel gauge reverted back to normal. How long it will remain normal is to be seen. I used a needle tip soldering iron, and it was still a bit nerve wracking, given how close together the pins are. No way I'd have the manual dexterity to use my normal soldering iron. If there were bad connections, they were hard to see, even with a loupe (magnifier). I ended up re-soldering every pin. I strongly suggest that you post on your original video so people who track that video realize you fixed your problem. Doesn't seem like this one has as much chatter on it. Thanks again.
