I had the same issue it was the fuel gauge that was inverted, I fixed mine over a year ago it was really simple, I got a thin piece of foam that was 3/4 to 1 inches thick, I cut it in the shape of the speedometer, I took apart the speedometer which doesn’t have ant screws once you have it off the car just pop the open put the foam behind the speedometer circuit and close it up. I realized when I press the speedometer it starts working so something must be loose after 14 years of driving. The foam just keeps pressure on the circuit board so it has good contact with LCD screen. Bada bing bada boom there you have it.
I just smack the top of it and it usually starts working again lol
Same haha
Haha yah I got tired of slapping my dash
Lmao 8th gen problems love it
It worked... thanks man
You are the man!!!
BULLI KID, this video, combined with your dash disassembly video, is amazingly helpful. I just spent a couple hours doing my wife's 2008 Civic and you made the process so easy. The fuel gauge and the digital speedometer were messed up. Many of the pins were loose and only required reheating to reset the solder, but some seemed to not have enough solder, so using a very small soldering iron I was able to re-solder them. I can't imagine how much this would have cost as a dealer repair/replacement, but you sir have saved the day!
Thank you for the comment! I appreciate the kind feedback!
The dealer would have just swapped out the entire assembly and it would probably have cost more than a 2008 civic is worth at this point, no joke.
Not sure why they would skimp on the solder at the factory. Yeah we know companies try to shave EVERY expense but how much do they save per dash by skimping? Maybe 5 whole cents?
This video is really helpful because it shows the process of trial and error that eventually leads to success. Great job!
Awesome video Kid....
I’m a 56 year old dad and was able to fix this exact issue on my daughter’s 09 Civic by re-soldering the fuel gauge pins on the circuit board exactly like you showed.
Keep up the great videos!

Awesome! Glad I can help! Thanks for the comment! Drop a like to support the video
Far stretch Greg but I’m located in NC can you fix mine and I pay you some $ lol just bought a 2011 Honda Civic and it’s have this issue
Just do it it’s not that hard. I don’t want to take on the risk of damaging.
@@BulliKid I totally meant the guy that commented under your post LOL
Do you have a link for the cluster?
Thanks for the awesome video. We bought my son a 2008 Civic and it had this problem. We followed your video and it worked just as you described. He is very happy as it was his first attempted car repair! Thanks again!
Glad I can help!! Hope he enjoys the car!
This is a great video. I have had this exact problem in my 07 Civic for probably 6 years. I remember googling it like crazy when it first happened and couldn’t find anyone with this issue so it’s awesome to see others with the exact same issue. I just push on the gauge and it will come back. Sometimes if I hit a bump it will come back lol. I probably won’t fix it because that’s a lot of work and I can still tell my fuel level with it being inverted, but it’s awesome to know exactly what the issue is (and isn’t!) and to know how to fix it if I decide to. Thanks!
Hey!!!! I appreciate you taking time to comment! I felt the same way at first when I started getting the issue. We now know it’s a common problem. Thanks for watching! Subscribe to show support! ☺️
Perfect video was waiting for this video..to solve my inverted fuel gauge fault
Yes a lot of people were having problems and no one had a solution!!
Cheers to 8th gen community!
Great video! I was occasionally getting the inverted fuel gauge, as well as a segment on the speedometer that would flicker. I cleared away the conformal coating that was on the board, which revealed cracks in the soldering for the pins. Make sure you are using a soldering iron with a very fine point.
Excellent!!!!
You earned that repair! I have this exact issue on my 8th gen. Good video.
Thanks bro. It worked to this day.
Did this over Thanksgiving. Watch the video for how to take apart the dash first. I just resoldered all of the gauge connections. Used a very small tip soldering iron. I reheated each connection, moved the wire a little, and added more solder. Used a clamped magnifying glass to see what I was doing. It has been about two weeks and it is still working perfect. Used to invert pretty much every day. You can complete this job in less than 90 minutes.
Awesome! Glad it worked!
Champion effort! You just saved me money! Also fixed the speedo that had two dead pixels with this method. Cheers bro!
Great work!!! Thanks for the comment.
I think I got mild brain damage when my head almost exploded during your soldering job, but glad you fixed the problem. A friend of mine is having the same problem and I found your video to help. Now to make the decision on if it's worth the time to disassemble the dash to fix it.
It was worth it. I hated when it inverted so muchhhh
@@BulliKid I don't doubt it!! I hope you've upgrading your soldering iron and solder since then though! haha!! That would have saved you some time. But hopefully it will work well enough to survive for the rest of the life of the car. Friend had took theirs to a shop and they said it wasn't worth fixing and they couldn't get the replacement part. Not sure if that was just the fuel display or the entire instrument cluster, but it was so expensive that they didn't even give them a quote. But thanks for the video. Definitely gives us something to consider.
Thanks man. I don’t care if it looks neat behind there as long as it works!
It’s been working since the video!
thank you! my temp gauge was inverted from time to time, used to think my car was overheating
Watched this video a few times after I got my 07 Civic a couple months back. Finally had the time to take mine apart...
Just want to say, thank you sir, for devoting the who knows how many hours, sweat, and tears, to figure this out so the rest of us could just hop in our cars, take it out, and implement the fix you figured out for the rest of us.
Mine had an excessive amount of flux paste covering all of mine, had I had some flux remover and a solder vac, It would have been much easier for me, but with extra time, patience, and perseverance, I was able to get all my contacts cleaned up decently, and resoldered all the pins.
Happy to say my fuel gauge is now working properly again thanks to you sir 👍🏻
Thank you for the comment and I’m glad it worked for you !! ✅✅✅🙏
Pretty awesome to learn that is all the problem typically is. But yeah with electronics, one should never connect things that are not meant to be, that could potentially fry other components.
Thank you for this video. 😃
This video was of great help in fixing my fuel gauge of exact problem
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Thank you. This is what my Honda had. Thought it would be difficult but it wasn’t.
Great video thanks Bulli kid...im enjoying your Tips and Techniques
I just learned something about the connectors thanks great vid
Thanks for watching! Glad I can help.
Awesome video man. Fixed my issue in 10 minutes.
thanks glad it worked for you too
This is the problem I’ve got and thanks to you I’m going to fix it.
You welcome. Good luck

Thanks for viewing and thanks for the positive feedback. I really appreciate it and glad I can help.
Worked perfectly. Thanks for the video.
Glad I can help! Cheers!
OMG, the soldering in this video made me cry! Glad to see how easy it will be to fix, but my god please throw away your soldering tools
It’s old school stuff I have. Nothing new or dedicated but still made it work.
Lol I have the same problem. Soldering is too much for me. However one thing to note the dot at the end when it is low in fuel continues to work despite inverted gauge.
Also I use trip meter to know when my fuel is low when inverted
Thank you see you man mine is lights are suddenly dimm I don't know temperature guage, speed, fule indicator. When I put indicator along turning stearing its blinks lot of please reply
Thanks this video help me to fix problem in my Honda Civic
Welcome
Having this problem, I have whitnessed success by continuously pressing the minitor until it sets correctly. Periodically turn it on and off when you achive it correct. As it will memotize and hone a longer and more correct reading let the car sit for several minutes (even with gas).
Third brake light brake light on my 2006 civic coupe did the same thing and I replaced it and it works fine bow cost me 158 bucks
Thank you for this video 🙏🙏
I got you fam! Subscribe for more 8th gen content.
I was able to pull the top cluster off but how do we take it apart to check the soldering? Thanks
Can you add the link here for how to remove dash to access this?! Please ? you rock thank you sir
Thanks for this video. The important part is you showing the actual pins that needed re-soldering. I just did this procedure, and my fuel gauge reverted back to normal. How long it will remain normal is to be seen. I used a needle tip soldering iron, and it was still a bit nerve wracking, given how close together the pins are. No way I'd have the manual dexterity to use my normal soldering iron. If there were bad connections, they were hard to see, even with a loupe (magnifier). I ended up re-soldering every pin. I strongly suggest that you post on your original video so people who track that video realize you fixed your problem. Doesn't seem like this one has as much chatter on it. Thanks again.
Doug Shue glad it worked for you. Mine has been perfect since. :)
I posted a link to this video in description in all my prior posts about this issue. Thank you for checking the videos out!
@@BulliKid I only saw this video because I am subscribed to your channel. I never saw the link you added to the original video, and when I just looked at it I wouldn't have known the link was there if I hadn't scrolled down. Anyway, I hope those non-subscribers somehow become aware you solved it. Anyway, you did us all a great service. Thanks again...
Good video. In my case, fuel level and temp. Thanks.
i have not had any temp gauge issues but im sure its the same problem! Mine has been working great since the repair!
How do you clean pins/ separate them?
I am from malaysia.. tq for the answer..
Hello!! Thank youuu for watching. Glad I can help.
Hey bro, i have same 8th gen civic, 2012.
I have an issue. My fuel gauge meter light was not working properly, when i tured on my indicator gauge light will off. If i smack it on the top it will work. When i check with my machanic, he said need to replace the board. Have to replace?
Thanks for the video. Mine Gauge fully disappears, Turn indication is working in cluster, i m wondering, same solution would work with it?
If all fuzes are good then possibly you have same problem.
Thank you legend🙏
You can unsolder one at a time to remove the display you just need a spring loaded Solder sucker.
Thanks brother very useful for my 8thgen civic, Love from INDIA
Heyyyyy thankkkk bro!!! Subscribe!!
My car just inverted for the first time today. I tripped out shut it off and back on still inverted. After that I filled up with gas and it went back to normal but I may have to fix it like you did if it keep happening.
It will keep happening off and on.
Great video! Thanks a lot :) I've a problem with the digital speedometer where a small part is flickering on the number.. do you think the same solution would work with that?
Yes i think would be the same solution. !
For anyone that wants to know doing this fixed the missing pixels for the speedometer.
Super video!!!!
Only make super videos
Hey matte very nice tutorial! I got same problem. But, on the temperature side. If i knock the temperature side, the whole upper cluster just shut off (blacked). Knock again, and everything back normal. I just curious if there is an error on one side (temperature), it affects the other 2 gauge (speedo, fuel)?
Dionisius Marcielo I wouldn’t think it would affect the cluster on top I’ve heard of people having problems with either the fuel gauge or the temperature but what you are describing what affects the other maybe you are having problems in multiple areaso
Nice video Bro I wish you would have showed us how do you clean it up..... Because I'm new when it comes to soldering😊 THANKS FOR THE KNOWLEDGE THOUGH I WISH YOU COULD HAVE SHOWED US LIKE
CHRISFIX THOUGH WITH THE CLOSE ZOOM IN STEP BY STEP HOW TO THEN I WOULD HAVE SUBSCRIBED😊
👌👌👌👌👌
This is almost painful to watch BUT I thank you for the inside info!
No problem,! solved my problem to this day!
@bonedustmonroe did you figure yours out? I'm about to open mine to check it out seems the flex on the pins is what is causing it
I have this happening to my 06 Civic and I couldn't for the life of me tell what was going on. I'm still just putting up with it since I can still read the fuel guage when it's inverted, but if I try soldering I would need some guidance for sure as I've never done it. My left side speaker is starting to go out too, and I don't know why but sometimes a good smack to the steering wheel will get those left side speakers back on again, which works like 50% of the time lol.
That may need re soldering too
Great Job!
But here is some advice.
I repair guages for a living since 1983.
Get yourself a soldering station with a pencil tip.
That huge bulky soldering iron is not the best tool for precision work.
Other than that...once again, Great Job!
Thanks. Yes I know it was hard with the bulky tip but it can be done with the basic tools.
@@BulliKid Also, that solder diameter is way too big. for electronics you want something around a 1 mm or .050 inch.
I just used what I had. It’s still working great today so I am happy.
@@BulliKid I get it. Awesome!
thanks.. many 8th gen civics have this problem. Should be a recall
I agree
Hey my 08 civic ex. Does that.
It shows full. But the last four bars are blank , wth? . it thought it was the fuel pump and wiring. Thanks for video
No problem.
This recently happened to my car as well. Kind of scared to take everything apart and try this. My question is if I leave it as it is, will the fuel light still work if I am low on gas? thanks!
Yes it should work.
Do you have any idea about this problem? The light of the upper cluster is still on while the engine is already off hoping to answer my problem thank you and bless you have a wonderful day
Sounds like electrical issues somewhere..
Ok very interesting wat about the p plastic over the temperature and the gas because mind melt in the sun
It melted?
The background light in the cluster goes completely out regularly. Sometimes the light will come on with a light tap on the panel. Sometimes it will not. I will just leave it alone and it will come on, on its own later.
Amazing... so all you had to do was add extra solder to the end of each pin??
Yes!!
Cuts and burns are part of diy. Good work getting that display working properly. That would be expensive to replace.
👍 I’m glad I was able to fix it
Great video thanks
But the 8th honda civic have many multiple issues
Free Diving every car does.
But this one one problem I had and it annoyed me so I finally fixed it.
On my 2011 civic i have the same problem and i just had the inside headliner fixed also all the car paint clear is peeling off LOL also all the doors weatherstrip have to be change also the roof molding trims
You have any idea how to fix flickering guege?my 2008 civic has a flickering problem..
Yes I have the video fix for it.
may i have video of yours about removal of honda civic 2014 iMid LCD removal??
I don’t have a 2014 Honda
Hey where you bought your steering wheel cover? What brand it is?
It’s a old cover from 1998
Do you ever have issues with the passenger side window? Mine doesn’t roll up. I’ve tried replacing essentially everything and still nothing
No problems but sometimes my driver side won’t close like a sensor is telling it there is something in the way. But usually a few tries and it closes. I notice it more with Rain and snow.
Mine hasn’t reverted. The red/blue gauge disappears but the fuel amount doesn’t disappear. I never tried pressing the whole gauge to see if it returns. I’m wondering if the solution is the same.
Should be the same. Maybe different pins are loose on your cluster
I was able to just push gently on the pins to get them to bend ever so slightly and contact the board fully. No soldering. Works perfectly. Those pins are very tiny and tightly packed. Only wanted to solder if I needed to.
Great video, thanks!
Glad it worked without soldering! Cheers!
when it's inverted, is the fuel gauge still correct? meaning even though only the 'Full' end is lit, you can see how much is on the 'Empty' end; just that it's inverted right? it's a great video, but seems like a lot of work if the gauge is correct but just inverted.
Correct. It’s just opposite. But s00000 annoying
@@BulliKid yes very annoying. thanks for your great video. I'm glad I found your channel, you've got some pretty cool stuffs.
Thanks and I really do appreciate it. Hoping to grow and make more cool videos/ build in the future.
Thanks man, my daughter has only had her 08 for a couple weeks and she shows me this tonight in her car as well as part of the speedo light going out occasionally. I've been a mechanic for 30 years but i dont do much electrical so thanks to your vid i know where to start with the solder points.
Yes which is exactly why I’m not bothering fixing it. It’s super annoying but I just know it’s the opposite of what it shows. And the E light still works so I live with it!
I just followed this same process but after assembling it back it is not showing any fuel sign, just orange light all the time. Please tell me any solution.
I would make sure each one is individually sodered correctly. But it’s a tough call.
And how to fix the speedometer I wana buy a Honda Civic but the speeding limit does not work
Did you figure it out?
Do all year model of Civic Fd are affected?
Klint Davis some are but some are fine.
Hello. I need you to tell me where I can buy the entire part online for a 2006 Honda Civic LX that has been sitting idle in the sun for two years and the entire display has been damaged.
eBay n junkyard.
Where did you buy the leather wheel cover?
Joseph Brown it was at the dollar store honestly. It’s a old design but it feels really good in your hands.
my upper guage doent turn on at all. if i reset the battery it will work but after few hours after i start the car ut will not work again
That’s interesting. Does it ever come back on randomly? Is it the whole upper cluster ?
To go through all that is better just buy a new cluster. Not that expensive or just do a Type R cluster and have the Vtec gages calibrate so it'll work.
That’s also a option.
Did this problem produce a Gauges Code B1177 Abnormal Battery Voltage?
No
Nice
My cluster seems to appear very dim in the daytime. Even with the brightness turned all the way up. Any suggestions?
Entire cluster?
@@BulliKid just The radio and the speed cluster. You can see the bottom cluster with mileage etc..
Hmm Maybe the leds are burnt out
@@BulliKid what would you reckon the best replacement options
I have not worked on any led options. I’m sure you can get a direct replacement bulb parts and try replacing those to see if it fixes the issue.
Hi, my dashboard switches off completely any idea what could be causing that? I want to learn how to fix it myself...
Nompilo Miya hmm if it’s all off I would look into fuses first.
@@BulliKid the dash is completely off sometimes and on other time. I am just tired of slapping it..I will check the fuse before removing the dashboard
How do you check the fuse please?
I have to jab mine to get it working. Unfortunately jabbing it so many times shatters the glass.. yay me
Yea I did the same thing for a while. But it was super annoying!
I get a lot of those empty blocks even when inverted
Mine is doing the same thing. The crazy thing is it looks like it's connected perfectly yet it must not be.
Mine was connected “perfectly” too.
You are having the same problem.
@@BulliKid I resoldered all the pins and sure enough it works.
Good job!!!!! 👍
Great video thnx mine is not visible

Hi my problem is the digital gauge some of the bars are gone and now the temperature is also is have same issue. When I start the car the temperature there's no light but after few minutes it will show again. What should Il do bro
Gerard belenson the same thing I did
Oh hope everything will be fine if I try it also. Little scared maybe i might destroy my gauge. Can I have a little advice I'm a newbie doing this😅
Gerard belenson yea if you break it as used one is $40 so don’t be afraid.
Thank you. I'll do update you when I'm done doing it.. Wish me goodluck 😅
Goodluck. Believe me I thought I was going to mess it up to but it works great
I have the same issue. But I don’t know how to do the soldering and no idea about it. I live in Leawood, Kansas State. Please help me if anyone knows where can I get it fixed at low cost. I can’t afford for a new part 😢😢😢
Maybe get a used one from a junkyard?
@@BulliKid Oh I need to look for a same model car and get the part. I still didn’t try knocking it a little bit. Maybe it works. By the way, do you live in Kansas 😂😂😂. If yes, will come to you.
I live in Chicago but you can buy yourself a soldering kit 20-30$ and do it

No. It’s a gasoline engine only.

@@BulliKidthank you for your response I'm going to see if I could do it.
Another option is to buy a replacement cluster from a junkyard.....I got one for $35. I'm pretty worthless at soldering.
What if the junkyard cluster will have the same problem?
@@BulliKid That could be said about any part bought from a junkyard. If that happens, it happens. I will still have my old one.
I got one at the junk yard…however didn’t fix the issue…original one flickered full empty and in between…junk yard shows empty even after I filled up…any ideas?
Probably broken. You have to solder it like I did to fix it.
You need a lot of flux for it to take the solder
You reflowed the solder connection and the cold solder joints were effectively fixed you can use a solder pult which sucks the air and solder up into a little device or you can use solder Wick. and your iron was way way too high watt for the job you were doing Man by the way a wrist grounding strap wouldn't be a bad idea when working on electronics
Didn’t have the right tools but it worked.
@@BulliKid sorry I forgot to thank you for the video however getting to the son-of-a-gun is going to be a project but at least now I'm not worrying about something burning up
