- Male lion with an old lioness from the Shishangaan lion pride Kruger National Park South Africa.
1 of the 5 Southern pride males with an old lioness from the Shishangaan pride. The southern pride males were originally 7 males who come from the Northern pride but it appears that only 5 remain based on the sightings I’ve had of them over the last year . 2 of the 5 males don’t appear to be in best condition at the moment but the other 3 are powerful boys. Currently the light maned male in the video seems to be the dominant male in the coalition.
We have been waiting to see how thing would pan out around N’wanetsi picnic site with 3 coalitions in close proximity and the Shishangaan pride in the middle of it all. The Kumana and Maputo male had controlled the Shishangaan pride but with 2 of the Trichardt males mating with some of the lionesses in the last few months it seemed they would push them out. The neighbouring Southern pride males have been patrolling close to the N’wanetsi picnic spot with the presence of the trichardt males.
Interesting enough in the last week the southern pride males have been mating with Shishangaan lionesses. The male in video was extremely hesitant going into the trichardt males territory, at this sighting the old lady tried to lead him in the direction of the trichardt males territory and he kept cutting her off. The male eventually got to a point where he picked up a scent and refused to go any further, the lioness continued about 500 meters ahead and looked back seeing he was not following she went back to him. Another interesting thing is the 2 trichardt males were seen feeding with old Kumana last week and shortly after this sighting one of the Trichardts were seen with the same lioness near the picnic spot I’m sure more will develop in the coming weeks but interesting times around N’wanetsi picnic spot.

Very gentle lion , he was following her until she is ready. People should give them some space.
Smart Boy not to follow her!! Interesting times for sure!! Seems a lot going on in Africa with the lion Coalitions trying, and some successfully, taking over prides!! If we could choose an animal to represent confidence and self belief, I think it would be a male lion at its prime, like this one. When he walks, its like confidence personified.

This lioness is from the Shishangaan pride, the pride Casper, and his brothers were born into... She is related to them, either mother, or Aunt.
