Loving the videos that you guys are creating. Hope to be prepared for my trip to that region you explained the Jungfrau, staying in Grindlewald in end of July and super looking forward for an epic hiking adventure around the alps. Must start planning ahead now for the hype 😆.
Spent today...although a bit damp taking cable car up to Mannlichen, the Royal walk, across to Kleine Scheidegg and then back to Grindelwald on the the train. Thanks for the suggestion. Our kids loved the playground!

@AplinsintheAlps hi friends. Hope you both are good. Waiting for you new video for different place of Switzerland. We went to Mannlichen and it was so nice and beautiful day. We had so much fun. We took best pictures and videos. Looking at your suggestions we went to OSCHINENSEE lake, Schilthorn and much more. Would love to come back and meet you again. Keep it up. Miss you guys
Doing a 3 day stop in the Jungfrau region with my wife and 2 teenage daughters..this wasn't even on our list but all of us now can't wait to do the open top cable car ride. I've taken an Air BnB in Wilderswil (also on advice from one of your videos) - hoping to be able to fit the Wengen-Mannlichen trip into the same day we're planning to do Pfingsteff flyline, toboggan run and the glacier gorge. Stop showing us all these awesome things! :)
You might wanna stop watching unless you want your trip to become longer and longer! :) So glad we can help - hope you enjoy the open air cable car ride!!
Is the panoramic trail from Mannlichen to Kleine Schiedegg open in March? It looks like it goes through several ski runs so I’m just curious if it’s still covered in snow that time of year?
God willing in a week we will be there! Do you have to stay at the hotel to be able to attend the evening barbeques or is it open to the public? Again, thank you so much for another informative video! So glad we purchased your 1 week guide! I feel so much at ease with all your step by step information!
Glad you asked! 5 CHF is the extra amount you pay if you want to do the "Royal Ride" on top of the cable car. But this is in addition to the normal cable car prices that we listed in the video.
We’re currently staying in Wengen and took your advice with the half price card and Berner Oberland passes. Did the hike up to the crown yesterday and Grindelwald First today. Would’ve done some more hiking had I seen this first. 😁. Thanks for another great video! Highly recommend Mannlichen!
So so so glad you took our advice and are enjoying your time. There are endless things to do here, so don’t feel bad-Just enjoy the time when you’re here!😊
@@AplinsintheAlps Your advice has been priceless! Love the videos and hope you’re loving living in this beautiful country! We love it here! Long ways from TN and HI. LOL
Just last month, my wife, daughter and I took this adventure after watching this video and it was well worth it. The views from the path up to the royal crown were incredible! Also, it was funny when we actually ran into both of you in the Lauterbrunnen train station! While my wife and daughter decided to take the gondola down to Grindelwald, I ventured onto the Panorama-weg trail toward Kleine Scheidegg. Between the start of the tail at the gondola to the train station at KS, it drops only around 120 m in elevation so the trail is an easy venture for just about everyone, I even encounter folks pushing baby strollers. And the view of the "big three" near the end of the trail is truly breathtaking. This is a must see if you visit this region!
I'm glad you liked the views as much as we do! Thanks for sharing your experience on the trail. We agree that it's a great trail for all different abilities. We're also so glad that we got to meet you at the train station! Thanks for saying hi:)
Hi there! We know it can be discouraging to see bad weather in the forecast. But hopefully this will help! The phone weather apps often do a poor job of predicting the weather. For example, mine showed thunderstorms today. But the sun has been out all day except for a one or two-hour period when it rained/stormed. Our suggestion is to use meteoswiss.ch for your weather forecasts for Switzerland. It's more accurate and will help you choose the best part of the day to get out and explore!!
Hi Jana and Brett. All your videos are amazing and very informative. Will be in Switzerland in august for the very first time. To be honest narrowing down to where to go, see and do is tough. Will be staying in the jungfrau region for 4 nights and making Lauterbrunnen as our home base. Mannlichen is on my lust as a must see and the panoramic hike. I’m traveling with my husband who has mobility issue so I will be doing this excursion by myself and I’m doing the panorama hike as well. I’m doing this on our last day and I wanted to spen sometime in Lauterbrunnen as well, stroll the village and see the falls. How much time should I spend in Mannlichen with the hike and spend time also in Klein Scheindegg. Should I buy the overland pass which gives me unlimited train rides , cable cars for free? Harder Kulm, grindelwald first, schilthorn, lake Brienz are on my list also. If you have overland pass, do you just hop on and off on the train. Thinking of buying Swiss half fare card as well. Help please. Thank you. Cora
Hi Cora! You will only need about 3 hours to explore Mannlichen, do the panoramic walk, and see Kleine Scheidegg - very doable in just half a day! Be sure to check out our 1-Week Guide to the Jungfrau Region for tips on what to see, and we also have a free train pass checklist to help you pick the best pass for your trip. www.aplinsithealps.com/1-week-guide-to-the-jungfrau-region aplinsinthealps.com/ultimate-swiss-train-pass-guide-2023/
Thank you for the response. I have a question about train commute. For example if I go to Interlauken from Lauterbrunnen, can I buy the train ticket the day before or on the day of the travel. And if I have a connection ( transfer) to my destination, do I have to purchase another ticket. Also , I notice that train transfers are very short, like 5 minutes to 10 minutes. Are these minutes doable and how far are the train tracks. I’m concerned because my husband can’t walk very fast. If I missed my connecting train, what should I do. Need I advice. Thank you. Cora

Have dinner on the gondola. day 3- morning-manna lichen, have lunch in Wengen afternoon - go to Lauterbrunnen, glacial waterfall day 4- morning - go for paragliding in the areas and leave. i plan to get the half fare card and the Oberlan dpass and Eurail (i will be moving from the 5th to germany and subsequently ,spain. do you think i can be able to do all these and what futher adviced can you give . i love how detail your videos are tho.
We rode that cable car just a couple days ago but it was confusing how to do the "Royal ride", as there was no option to purchase the $5 add on when we bought them online and we saw no way to buy them when we arrived. There was no person working we could ask before the car left either. Would be helpful if you included how you can buy the Royal ride add-on as we couldn't figure it out. Otherwise the Royal walk was awesome, albeit pretty difficult uphill even for us fit folks, but the views were totally worth it. We brought our small drone and got some of the best shots of all of our Switzerland trip
So sorry you were confused! You can actually only purchase the Royal Ride tickets from the Wengen-Männlichen cable car station. There should have been someone there at the window to help you. At least you still got to enjoy the views from the Männlichen summit 🤩🤩
Hi Jana/Brett Will you please help us how to get to Wengen to do the Royal Ride from Interlaken Ost, the 1 week guide to Jungfrau Region from bonus transportation page, stated we have to take the train to Lauterbrunnen then Grindelwald and last cable to Mannlichen, it doesn’t mention anything about getting through Wengen. @@AplinsintheAlps great! i am going to MÄNNLICHEN on june 1st and i hope my son can play there in alpine playground and we can also hike down to Kleine Scheidegg, fingers crossed, snow should melt by that time.
Of course! You can ride the cable car down from Männlichen to Grindelwald Terminal, then take the train to Grindelwald. From there, it's a short bus ride or a 10-minute walk to reach the First cable car station!
@@AplinsintheAlps thanks. We were thinking of going to First via one wAy cable car. Then to Mannlichen , lauterbrunnen, and Wengen. Possible? How much will the cable cars cost with our half fare card?
You would just go up to First, come back down to Grindelwald, and then follow our directions above in reverse. Then from Wengen you can take a cable car down to Wengen. You can find prices for all the rides in the SBB Mobile App which is so convenient to use!
I saw you both today at Interlakin West station, I was so excited to talk with both of you because I learned about Switzerland before my trip from your videos but unfortunately, I could meet you both bcz you were busy with phone and you went suddenly into bus. 🙁
I do understand! We had a wonderful week here credit goes both you definitely. We visited places you advised in all your videos regarding travel up to locations. We are going back today. Thank you 😊
It depends on the season, but if you stay on the trail your risk is generally very low! (For context, we've hiked here for the past 3 summers and neither of us has had a tick!)
When I was riding the Wengen cable car, I saw many wooden planks running parallel on the hillside. Anyone can tell me what are those? Cheers Oh and the price has increased to CHF 29 per person per way - was there in mid Sep 2024.
Those are avalanche barriers to protect the village! Pretty cool, right?! And yes, prices do seems to increase yearly (this was published in 2023 so the prices aren’t current).
@@AplinsintheAlps thank you Jana and Brett for the information. Yes, these barriers are cool and well-thought out by the Swiss! Looking forward to returning to Switzerland again in the future...my wife and I missed out the Brienz Rothorn Bahn as it is being repaired after the Aug 2024 storm damage. We also didn't manage to hike down from Mannlichen.
It's only 5 CHF for the upgrade to the royal ride! That doesn't include your regular ticket price though. Be sure to watch later in the video when we detail those :)
There are definitely ticks here, especially in the grass/forest areas. But we've never really had a problem on the popular trails in the area. It's worth checking after a hike though-we always do whenever we've been in the grass. Enjoy your trip!
Very nice! What month was this, I didn’t catch that? And also, Jana did you get EU citizenship from your Sicilian roots? Not to be nosy it just seems like you have moved there now 😉
We filmed this is June and some clips were from last summer as well. I do have Italian citizenship through my Sicilian ancestors! (And Brett has it as well through marriage) You’re not nosy at all - we have a few blogs about that on our website. 😊That’s how we moved here on my italian passport - it would be nearly impossible on our USA ones!
@@AplinsintheAlps I’m happy for you both! Thanks for answer, I’m always trying to find an affordable side trip to 🇨🇭 when we are travelling in the Black Forest so your vids are appreciated
My wife and I are going in September and we watch your videos to get pumped up! I did some of these excursions years ago, and I've tried to explain to my wife how special it is, but now all I have to do is show her your video. Job done. Quick question. Is the ride on top of the Wengen cable car covered by the Berner Oberland Pass, or is it extra? Cheers!
We love that the views speak for themselves - stunning! So happy you and your wife are coming in September! The Berner Oberland Pass covers the rides up to Mannlichen, but you have to pay 5 CHF/person extra to ride on top (you can buy that ticket from the Wengen-Männlichen cable car station). Enjoy!!

We're so happy you had a great time here. Thanks for letting us know!!
What is the risk of ticks during these shortish hikes
It depends on the season, but if you stay on the trail your risk is generally very low! (For context, we've hiked here for the past 3 summers and neither of us has had a tick!)
do they host anything in september? that’s when i’ll be there
There’s nothing on the calendar yet, but you can check their website events section to see!
We are visiti g early may when the gondolas are not operational, any other way to viist this place?
Unfortunately no :(
You can hike up to Männlichen even when when the gondola isn't running, but this wouldn't be safe at all in early May due to snow.
@@AplinsintheAlps :(. Thanks for the info.
When I was riding the Wengen cable car, I saw many wooden planks running parallel on the hillside. Anyone can tell me what are those? Cheers
Oh and the price has increased to CHF 29 per person per way - was there in mid Sep 2024.
In one website I saw the prices as 69 Francs. You are saying it's only 5 francs.
It's only 5 CHF for the upgrade to the royal ride! That doesn't include your regular ticket price though. Be sure to watch later in the video when we detail those :)
Awesome video! How are the ticks in Switzerland? Staying in Grindelwald and exploring mostly Jungfrauch regions😊
Hope you get the chance to visit soon!
Literally just commented the same thing on your other video but what footwear are you wearing at 0:46 😂
Ha no problem! I wear the Altra Lone Peak 6!!
@@AplinsintheAlps ah thanks so much dude! Are they the same as in the other video? Was really interested in them as they have the wide toe box.
Yep, same shoes!
So you said 5franks first, then showed 52franks rounf trip from Wengen. What is real price?)
The 5 francs is for the extra to stand on the top I think!
Please note that the cable car wont be open till May 25th. Essential information but not shared upfront
This video was produced in 2023 so the dates vary from year to year based on their maintenance schedule 😊
Enjoy!!
Hi Jana/Brett,
I need your help how to get from Interlaken Ost to Wengen to experience the Royal Ride.
I bought your 1week guide to Jungfrau region. The bonus transportation guide page stated that we’ll take the train from Interlaken to Grindelwald to Mannlichen, there wasn’t an option to get through Wengen. This video also start in Wengen and we don’t know how to get to Wengen from Interlaken. Will you please help. Thanks Jana/Brett
So 5 frank from Wengen or 52 franks?
very nice nature Bj Slovenia Postojna Studeno 3 a / 4 my home address)
