I was the B Camera 2nd AC on this! One of the best experiences I’ve had. Great crew. Ending was so fun to shoot. Been a long time Stuckmann fan and it’s surreal to see his thoughts on something I was involved with.
@@squatch545 the absolute best. Very down to earth. She hung with us a lot after every day, even though the shoot took a toll on her. I mean she’s the only main actor. She did a fantastic job
I think the alien observing the photos thought the way to keep her subdued and in trance was to bring back her friend, in her mind. But, we were shown that although she felt sorrow it didn't work. She was able to see through the illusion and break it, freeing herself. Then in the woods, her clone stubs her, she kills the clone but instead of running away, she mourns. After they catch her, they are curious as to why the hypnosis did not work. As they observed what she had done, we again see her reach out to her young self as she begins to write letters to Maude. And then they knew. They couldn't imprison her because she was already a prisoner of the town she was leaving in. And they couldn't make her Alien because she was already alienated. So they realized she is already a part of their alien society. And there, with them, she was free.
That’s cool and all but why do people keep referring to the girl, she killed as her friend? It’s quite literally her sister, unless I’m interpreting it wrong…
@@gagalover2k10the girl she killed was named Maude collins while the main characters name was Brynne adams. That’s why she ducked behind the car around the officer and that one lady at the start as they were Maude’s parents.
I think the point of the movie is very clear - No one will save you (but yourself). You need to forgive yourself in order to save yourself. I really loved this movie and I think the camera shooting is amazing. Playing a character with no dialogue is crazy and hard, and she nailed it.
I got that too.. to me it looked like they were trying to create a utopia.. and she forgave herself, mourned, was friendly and owned up to her past - she was already a good member of society - so she was released 🤷🏾♂️
Ya she forgave herself through an illusion, then proceeded to dissociate herself from any other human being that had their lives ripped away by the invading species. Thus she lives guilt free by external validation through a fake body snatcher race. So the question is...did she have a mental breakdown living alone with guilt out in that old farm house and there really was "no aliens" or were there aliens, she got what she needed, and just decided.....Fuck It, I'm not gonna ask questions and just have illusionary fun for the rest of my days? What a weird ending. Kind of crappy actually.
The over-expressions and mouth breathing got a bit grating though, especially when after a few minutes in you realize they're sticking to the gimmick of having no dialogue, no matter how forced it might feel
Nothing was explained here 🙄🙄🙄 was the world already invaded? Were they Only targeting her? Did they do this to everyone in the town? Soooo many questions
5:11 I got the opposite experience for this one. For me, when the creature has a terrifying design or presence and their motives remains unknown, making it lingers around longer makes it more horrifying imo. Because generally we dont expect something that wanna scare us will walk around calmly. But in this alien case it works because they're not here to play peekaboo. So they literally dont need to stay in the dark like ghost or the boogeyman. Honestly, it works for me.
It's not about the creature staying in the dark, it's about keeping them obscured from the audience. You can make a scary looking monster, but the scariest monster of all is our imaginations-- that's why most horror movies keep the monster obscured or out of focus or in shadow for the most part. That's what Chris was referring to.
Ghost movies make me laugh cause in most scenes they are like hidding in the dark waiting the moment to close a door or something to scare their victim. Like dude, they are just a bunch of dicks, instead of going for the kill they decide to annoy the fuck out of people first it seems. Its so dumb haha.
I agree. Love movies like this that actually show you rather than leaving it to my imagination. If done properly it just seems more realistic to me. These aliens wanted her and fought for her, and didn't just hide in the shadows to leave it to our imagination.
Regardless of what people think of this movie, I hope that Kaitlyn Dever gets recognized for a phenomenal performance. She did so much with very little dialogue. ACTED her ASS OFF!!!🎉
She will get recognition from other directors. Things like Oscars will completely ignore her since they basically pick the same movie every year, which doesn't really matter since they pander to the massives and have no balls to pick comedies or horror movies.
Even though I didn’t really like the movie (due to the main character acting pretty dumb for 90% of the movie ), but I have to give the actors credit, they did a very good job.
The ending gave me a sense that all humans are abducted and we all live in our own created versions of reality (projected on as by aliens), becouse "they" have discoverd how much we like to escape from our traumas and drama. Realy thought provoking... Good Film
We see a form of mental manipulation part way through the movie and right before the ending. I think she was just better off in the invaded future than the pre-alien one.
[NOT A SPOILER] All plot aside, I really loved how the aliens made weird hand/arm gestures like they were communicating through symbolism. Totally different take, great film IMO
Me too, more of that would be been great, but I actually loved the classic grey alien take but did slight variations of it. I also interpreted the first Alien's feet as a nod to the aliens in Arrival
I actually caught the message of the movie. They didn't keep her possessed and she didn't mind dancing around with possessed townsmen because the Aliens realized she was already Alienated from the whole town (Get it, ALIENated). She gets the fantasy she wants without possession and the Aliens dont have to worry about her rebellion.
Check out Extraterrestrial, POD, Significant Other, The Invasion, and while Dark Skies can be pretty depressing at points, it's actually quite underrated in my opinion. 👾 👾
Seeing the aliens as much as we do is one of the biggest pluses for me, lol. I'm sick of films playing this "don't show the monster!" game. It's hardly ever as well executed as they pretend it is. Not everything is Jaws or Alien.
@@MrKingtyrant05what about the spider hahahaha Kevin Smith once refused to add a spider at the demand of producers.... guess the producers here had the last words hahaha. What a waste of good CGI with stupid propaganda(parasite/Covid/vaccine).
For me, sometimes showing the “monster” or “ghost/demon” in a horror movie would lose the eerie factor. The first Insidious, for example, had me creeped out until they showed more of the demon, who looked like Darth Maul to me. Lol It’s still an overall creepy movie, so I’m not taking anything away from that. Regardless, I think it’s all about execution. If you’re going to show the “demon/ghost” or “monster,” build suspense and tension to finally reveal the “antagonist.” Which I’ll give Insidious that. And this movie did that by building it up to finally reveal the first alien clearly as well. But to your point, seeing the aliens as much as we did is the right move for this type of movie.
The "less you know the scarier it is" trope is lazy writing to me. It allows you to do almost anything you want out of plot convenience and not out of good character development. For years people kept saying they like Halloween because of the mystery of Michael Myers. And look what happened at the end of that franchise. All the lack of character development ended up painting themselves into a corner for the finale all because they didn't have and REAL lore around who Myers was. For years it was "he's just too evil to die". And they ended up disappointing fans by making him just a regular man after all. Then they try to give us the "see, he IS all damaged and broken down in his old age". But none of that explains how he was able to survive being shot twice in the head , dropped from a window, hit by cars, stabbed, set on fire. All because they wanted to be mysterious they ended up choking on their own continuity.
Yeah..I remember seeing her on Justified, and when I played Last of Us, it was pretty much her I was picturing as Ellie the whole time I was playing. The girl on the show does a good job. But I do kinda wish the show came out in time for Kaitlyn to have plaid Ellie.
That’s why humanity was inslaved, she endured so much before the invasion why would she consider to help another human moving forward, the aliens gave her something she didn’t have before because they didn’t expect such resilient from that mind who was already alienated from the community
I have mixed feelings about the film. It's very thought provoking, I enjoyed the suspense, and I thought Brynn was pretty badass. The actress did a fantastic job despite having few lines, and I don't think the silence took away from the movie. I felt conflicted by the end because although I can appreciate the metaphors, I found it confusing when thinking about it more literally. I get the killing her clone metaphor, but why did the aliens make that and send it after her seemingly to kill her? Why are they suddenly peaceful towards her after learning of her trauma? Why do they enslave everyone except for Brynn? The whole "they relate to her being different" thing doesn't make sense to me. Why would she be worthy of living and being happy while no one else is in the entire town? And why is Brynn so happy to have her friends be fake husks of people? I feel like she'd have to be pretty evil to enjoy that. I'm very conflicted about it. i don't think it deserves the amount of bad reviews it's gotten, but I wouldn't say I fully loved it either.
I just finished this movie and I was thoroughly impressed. Kaitlyn Dever is amazing. I actually loved the alien designs. Overall, I think this is my fav sci-fi film to be released in quite some time.
This movie felt like a nightmare, in a good way. It represented my dreams, what happens in them, and what fuels them. I'm not going to explain this in order to stay away from spoilers, but holy hell, did this hit home in a certain way.
Been there time and time again, some of the best dreams are nightmares. Wish I could have a pen and paper, on hand after I wake up abruptly and write down what ever happened and expand on it in time. So many interesting stories and scenarios.
There is a point where the perspective switches and we see one of the aliens in focus with HER sneaking up on IT instead of the other way around. I realized that the aliens never actually ever tried to hurt her at all. She, on the other hand... Whoo. Loved it.
Except.... SPOILERS ....they sent a clone version of herself that stabs her in the stomach. Twice. After attempting to force feed her one of those squiggly slimy wormy mini aliens so they could MIND CONTROL HER FOREVER didn't work out. I'd say they try to hurt her, just not (at first) by damaging the body they are trying to take control of.
@@melody8923 I get your point. 6ou c9uld be right. But it's also pretty clear that they aren't cloning people so much as controlling them. In fact, to me anyway, they seemed to be primary trying to communicate via gross alien spit tentacle ejecta, not go full on pod people. They were legitimately ALIEN aliens - despite physical similar body shape.
@melody8923 They tried to mind control her and it failed. So it seems like they did plan B, which was to clone her, kill her, and replace her entirely. But that failed too. So plan C seemed like a "wtf is going on here?" So they take her to headquarters for an inspection, mind probe her sad story, and decided "whatever" and let her be. These aliens definitely aren't nice. That's like calling the aliens in invasion of the body snatchers good guys. They wanted to replace humanity and make them into a perfect docile society.
This film was different and the storyline was refreshing. Two tropes often used individually, put into one. On one hand, you have aliens trying to take over earth/humanity. Then you have a girl who's committed a horrible crime and is on a journey to overcome her past mistakes. So odd together, but it works. I was captivated the entire time. And the cinematography was amazing.
I just watched the movie - well - I quit after 48 minutes. Behavior of the protagonist is just not believable. When she walked into the police station - why did she just walk out? I get she had some sort of anxiety attack from the "spit attack" - but one would think almost getting murdered by an alien would trump that feeling. Or at least - after leaving the station - making another shot at it. And on the bus. That escape was a little bit "too easy"? The alien-possessed was agile and fast inside the bus - but as soon as she gets outside - they just give up? Also - why did nobody on the bus not utter a single word? Where they all possessed? Even the driver? If the driver was NOT possessed why did the alien-possessed on the bus not attack him? And how did she conjure up the cap and the sunglasses she was wearing on the bus? Also - she has a land line only?? No cell phone? (yet she runs an "online business" or something similar) I was seriously considering if she was suffering from autism and was dealing with serious social anxiety - but her behavior does not match (she has no problem looking people in the eyes, etc). I got nothing against sci-fi and fantasy movies - but when behavior and internal logic makes no sense - I see little point in continue watching.
@@jarls5890if you have no interest in continuing the film go watch something else💀don’t write a whole essay nitpicking tiny details like a hat and sunglasses. Everything you complained about has little to no impact on the overall plot anyway…
@@amberwingtundrawing776 Not much they can do! Yet - when there is nobody else you can turn to, and you are a young woman living alone - one would think you would seek aid regardless of how true this would be.
@@almightyotaku6615 Nitpicking? EVERYTHING that person said was valid. This movie is DUMB! She killed not 1, not 2, but THREE of the aliens! 1 appeared to be a child as well, and after trying to kill her the entire film, they end up dancing and drinking tea with her as the movie ends? WTF. How do ppl like this sh*t? That chick had stronger plot armor than Rey from the damn Disney SW films! I thought EVENTUALLY she was gonna pay for killing 3 aliens (oh, and BTW ONE HUMAN TOO), but nope, she faces zero consequences not then, now, or ever. She gets hit in the face with a door. No big deal. She gets thrown through a wall. Lite work for her. She gets STABBED in the STOMACH! Who needs a functioning abdomen anyway? Not even an alien going down her throat to take over her body stood a chance against this superhuman, for she just REACHES DOWN and pulls it out like it was a grain of rice stuck between her TEETH. F*ck this movie and anyone who says it's good.
I like how the Greys didn’t dispose of her once they found out she couldn’t be controlled. Especially since she dispatched like 3 of them. But here, the Greys held no grudge or animosity towards her, we see the aliens have a sense of understanding or morality perhaps and let her be free. Brynn was able to forgive herself to where she didn’t have to fight back anymore. She was basically alienated half of her life, so the Greys understood she could co exist among them. It goes to show the aliens aren’t truly evil. It could also possibly be the Greys themselves being controlled by the squid parasites since it shows the squid reverberating in their throats as well. The parasites are possibly the TRUE masters behind the invasion. And they utilized Grey technology to help spread themselves. And by the ending we saw, it seems like the Greys/parasites are changing the world into a “perfect society”, perhaps to heal the planet after we caused so much harm. The captured humans would be trapped in their minds but they would live their life as if nothing happened as the parasites are feeding them a false reality (they wouldn’t be suffering). The whole ending gives off Invasion of the Body Snatcher vibes. As well as The Host by Stephenie Meyer. But this movie leans more towards The Host because in the book, they are peaceful parasitic aliens that invaded worlds that were on the brink of destroying themselves. So they stepped in and took over to help save the planet and breed a new generation of the races that occupied the planets and teach them to take better care of their planet and each other.
Yeah that’s what I got out of it too and ruined the movie for me. She killed someone and ok she feels bad about it that doesn’t take a way what she did. And so now the town’s people have to be mind controlled because they were cold toward the person that committed murder. Just didn’t make sense for me.
@@JT-zy2ftIt was clearly an accident and in the heat of the moment. Besides, we don't know what the others were going through, let alone if they had any skeletons in the closet of their own....
I watched her in Dopesick and Unbelievable, I gotta say I admire that at her young age she's willing to take risky roles to prove more how talented she actually is. Enough with hyping Zendaya too much, Kaitlyn deserves more recognition too
As for this week's movie releases, Hollywood seemed to be expecting people to see Expendables 4 in theaters when that terrible movie should've been dumped to streaming whereas this should've been the theaterical release
I just watched it and loved it! I found the lack of dialogue refreshing…and I know the quiet place franchise exists but with those you go into it expecting the silence…this was different
The way they portrayed the fear of her turning on the lights, nothing coming l, but to be relieved when there’s water is something I really appreciated a lot. This film was a classic for me already
There was a movie from 2006 called Altered, which was directed by one of the guys behind the original Blair Witch Project, that was about an alien home invasion that I remember being quite good. I suggest looking for it and giving it a watch. There’s one particularly gruesome scene involving intestines. I’ll leave it at that…
Dude I remember coming across that one, it was pretty campy at first and I remember it seeming like the actors literally got better as the movie went along but by the end it was pretty good.
The movie exceeded my expectations. It's like a very good Twilight Zone episode. The creature design is really good. The main character is awesome. She is definitely the equal of Ellen Ripley. Throughout most of the movie I thought it was one kind of story and then it turned out to be something else. Thank you for your review! I probably wouldn't have given the movie a chance if it weren't for your review.
I hated. HATED. the ending when I first watched it. then I watched it with a friend, and told her how I thought it was religious symbolism. The one thing that made me think this was when she was on the ship reliving her darkest memories, afterward, all the aliens looked up at the "eye" in the ceiling, which....in my mind...pronounced judgment and sent her back to the earth. The fact that the ONLY words in this movie were "I'm sorry, Maude." emphasized redemption and forgiveness, necessary to get to heaven. The one thing I didn't understand was her interaction with her doppelganger, where she killed it. My friend very wisely said to me that maybe that scene was symbolic for her committing suicide. She slashed the neck of the duplicate, and could mean that she ended her own life? Which would make sense as right before that scene, she had just relived her darkest moment. And right after that scene she was "taken up" for judgment to "the Eye". And the ending seemed a bit so fantastical that maybe it was "heaven" where she was perfectly happy. Maybe the aliens were "angels", and thus while in heaven dancing away, there's aliens everywhere in the sky? Anyway...I posted this on reddit and got one response that was totally offended by my religious interpretation. LOL. I thought it fit. And after discussing it with my friend and realizing that this wasn't just some random silly story of alien invastion with a surreal ending, I came to appreciate it. Dare I say...I even liked it! Tell me what you think...
I'm glad you also liked "The Strangers". I love that two great performers chose to star in a simple, straightforward slasher thriller. "No One Will Save You" was a really good movie, really deep for an alien flick. Loved that it had a lot of old-school creature feature homages too.
Not since Prey have a been so let down that a film didnt get theatrical release. One of the years biggest surprises overtaking Signs and Nope with its incredible audio and visual storytelling. Thanks Chris, without you I wouldve never known about this. That thumbnail =A+ for horror😊😊😊
It's a shame that Expendables 4 got a theatrical release whereas No One Will Save You got a streaming release for this week's movie releases. It should've been switched tbh
The alien movie we needed. Seriously this is what i always wanted. Definitely the best ive ever seen. No lame jumpscares. No stupid childeren to look after. No boyfriend girlfriend drama. Just straight following one person and keeping it intense and keeps you wondering what's happening next and it just doesn't fail.
Just like Jordan peele nope, the simple design just magically gets interesting when the story and scene and sound is amazing , sometimes simple things aren’t enough for us so we complicate them but tue grays are what they are but as we can see depending on their approach it can be terrifying because that long one … the shots in this film makes the simply gray designs really really entertaining to watch
honestly all i could picture is pearl from x when she was younger playing this character at the end .like thats the dream pearl probably wanted but i wont say what exactly dont want to spoil the ending but man she just came off as crazy pearl to me at the end
I don't think this film is about alien invasion or extraterrestrials - at all. It is a metaphor of the horror within, a portrait of a person consumed by guilt who ultimately became the prisoner of her own mind. She continues to pay for her crime in a loop. Nobody can save you from the dungeon and darkness of your own soul. The main clue why the aliens are merely a device to explore the psychological turmoil of the protagonist is their banal appearance. By depicting alien No.1 as a boring cinematic cliché, the director is hinting that the extraterrestrial invaders might be simply ghosts, constructed in the mind of the protagonist/antagonist from pop culture references. They are killed with the same brutal rage and surprising easiness as the human (and perhaps the only real) victim murdered by the heroine in the 'past'. A past which became her inescapable cell.
I really enjoyed the movie. I gotta say, the soundtrack was beautifully haunting. It really added some many emotions to the movie. I love the music when she's having her panic attack after she goes into the city to get help. When she's holding onto the wall, gasping for air, but can't. The music gave me PTSD. The music added humanity touch to its alien strange music.
This was one of the biggest surprise of 2023! Came out of nowhere yet I could say it is one of my favourite movies throughout the year! Reminds me of Barbarian 2022.
This movie was very similar to a classic Twilight Zone episode, where an old woman has to fight off aliens who invade her house, and not a word of dialogue is spoken the whole episode.
The morality bait and switch ending is random to say the least. There's a reason Brynn is an oucast who lives as a hermit. She murdered her best friend, intentional or not and we don't really see the other viewpoint explored much. Is the film some sort of social commentary on murderers and rehabilitation? At the end of it all Brynn chooses the selfish option and smiles whilst humanity gets taken over by aliens. She double downs on her refusal to acknowledge and process the finality of her actions. She betrays her species simply because the invaders give her a moment's respite. That's pretty dark regardless of the song and dance we see on screen. It's a very confusing ending as it just comes off too absurd. For me the aliens use Brynn's greatest weakness against her which is emotional distress. It was never about discovering anything deeper or 'special' within her, it was just a means to assimilate another pesky human. It goes with the whole scanning business they were so fond of to determine humanity's strengths and weaknessses.
the spit in the face, the aliens leader(governement-reptilians),parasite implant looks very much like Covid virus, the end where everyone looks numb and happily dance and interact without fear as if they were puppet(people who accept their fate and got parasite/vaccine).Apart from the performance and the above average CGI this looks like an anti-vax propaganda bcrap disguise as an alien movie.
I would say I found it a bit odd at the reveal that she straight up murdered her friend. Accident or not, grabbing a rock and bashing your friend over the head is straight up evil. A really odd choice over it being a true accident.
Wrong. You dont understand the point of the movie. She did killed her bestfriend by accident as they were fighting when they were young leading to her being an outcast (alienated) from society. She carries that burden even shes grown up and we can see shes sorry as she frequently sends letters and says about how she misses her etc. And you can see it as the movie goes specially when the alien spider is in her she resisted it and keeps saying thats shes sorry until fast forward she finally was taken and as the aliens dig her mind she also confronted her bestfriend at the table scene and ultimately let go of that burden and forgiven herself thinking that was the end for her but the aliens also saw her suffering and situation and thinks she isnt a threat as she was already alienated from society leading her to be release. She didnt betray anyone. The smile at the end is shes celebrating her freedom and fresh start and gone along with the aliens that treated her better than the humans before.
Katelyn is a acting like a boss. Her facial impression set the mood in every seen. She doesn't say much, but Her non verbal communication is of the chain. 2 hours of dialog wouldn't be enough the explain all the emotions she is showing. Without words you instantly understand what she is going through. That's acting people...like boss
@ChrisStuckmann_0 Out of respect for the man you shouldn't pretend to be him. There are always people who fall for it and they believe whatever you post is the real C.S.'s opinion, so that's not okay. You wouldn't want someone to go on your social media and post stuff in your name while that stuff doesn't represent you or your opinions at all.
its a critic of people getting vaccine and the others like the writer.....as if getting the vaccine(parasite implant looking exactly like Covid virus) will make you numb and living a clueless life being watched and monitored.Could have been so much better as a real alien story but it turned into a cliche anti-vax and anti-governemt/leader propaganda.
Anyone who’s seen Justice League, starro basically attaches to their host trying to give them a utopia or to live their best dream while the host gets used, the only way is to break free of the dream and the illusion is to realize it’s fake and unreal, that was cool to see.
"no one will save you" from the guilt you feel about past mistakes. The film is about a girl with social anxiety process her traumas with the help from a tall dark stranger
A horror classic, looks like. Most of the movies use aliens for sci-fi, action movies but this is pure horror! Exactly what the horror fans and genre needs!! Will definitely watch this in cinema on demand!
This and Moon Garden are films that have haunted me in a great way this year. I really enjoy the minimal dialogue of this one. Every breath is amplified. Thanks so much for the review! This was a great kick off to my weekend 👾👾👾👾👾 So glad I'm Stuckmannized.
*SPOILER* I enjoyed the movie. Yes, showing the aliens less would have definitely upped the horror but I still felt plenty of suspense throughout, and enjoyed that I didn’t know where it was going. I personally felt a lot of sympathy for our protagonist. When i realised that Maude was 12 from the tombstone, i immediately started to wonder what a 12 year old could have done that is so unforgivable that the whole town, everyone, treats her so poorly and such disdain. When we eventually found out what happened, i felt so sorry for her. She was a 12 year old, who obviously felt very threatened at the time and reacted completely from emotion and not thought, and immediately felt remorse. Yes what she did was terrible, and just so unfortunate but her sorrow, her guilt, shame, and remorse really made me believe that she didn’t need to be treated the way she was, especially as someone who had lost their mother, was living alone, and we can only assume has been isolated since that experience for what we can assume has been a couple of years. This movie touched on themes of forgiveness, trauma, and weaponising grief without considering one’s humanity. Our protagonist’s action to the incident was an unfortunate, albeit immensely human (we are flawed), response. The fact that she was given an opportunity to forgive herself, I assume everyone in the town was given an opportunity to see that situation again and whether they would respond in the same spiteful manner they had shown our protagonist over the course of film / another incident that played on similar themes of humanity. She decided to see the humanity in herself and essentially save herself because no one else was going to. Her looking for forgiveness from the town’s people in order to forgive herself is alien,it’s foreign, it’s not real. When we met her she was essentially the town’s people at the end - false smiles masking the trauma that lied underneath. She can now go on with life having forgiven herself and essentially live a life that’s all smiles on top masking a lot of trauma beneath. Worth a watch, and I think a great spooky season watch.
Kinda got a dark take on this, but the main character is in a shell in the beginning because the town alienated her, then shes fighting for her life and killing them every chance she gets then come to find out she killed her friend when they were kids. From the beginning to the end she was always crazy, and thats why they left her alone and let her be happy in the end. Insane
funny how the parasite looked like the Covid virus.....this is some crappy propaganda disguised as an alien movie. The moral is dont accept what they try to put into you or you will become a numb puppet like in the end(responsible people that got their vaccine).
This is why Chris is my favorite film reviewer. Videos like this making me aware of films i otherwise would have never heard of. Seeked and watched it tonight because of thos review. I enjoyed the film very much. Thank you Chris!
*Spoilers* Seriously dumb ending. I mean the aliens basically tried killing her throughout most of the movie and just because they fabricated some vision Brynn is suddenly friends with them and is okay with humanity probably being wiped out as thanks for getting help with her past trauma? Wtf? 😂 Felt like they didn't know how to end it. It was just one boring chase from beginning to end and I got fed up of the constant sighs and groans real fast. Still not sure if her being mute was down to Maude dying or whether she was always mute. Why doesn't she encounter any other humans resisting? I hate these sort of films. I can't take them seriously. I was sort of buying into the modern retelling of a classic alien invasion film but you have to come with some originality and have an ending that makes some damn sense. The lead did what she could but I think if she had a younger sibling tagging along with her and actual dialgoue, that would have worked much better.
I absolutely agree. I couldn’t take it serious and I really gave it a chance. I watched this review before I saw it and I just wanna know what crack everybody smoking on that thinks this movie is good. Maybe I’m missing something but the movie is a C at best.
I just watched this last night. I didn’t know about the lack of dialogue and at first it was kind of frustrating, but it actually forced me to pay attention to everything that was happening. I feel like hiding the aliens in shadow would have been smart IF these were beings unlike anything we’d seen before. But since they are “Greys”, the eventual reveal wouldn’t have been very exciting. But even so; they are still terrifying because of how they move around. SPOILERS: I didn’t really understand the ending. It proposes that they come to some kind of truce? I enjoyed it but it’s not the kind of film I’m going to revisit just for fun.
OMG i really LOVED IT! Signs + Nope + Panic Room This movie has it all. The only think i felt at the end was a bittersweet feeling that I REALLY WANTED MORE. I wanted more of her and the backstory of the aliens and others perspectives about what was happening on Earth. I was terrified imagining myself in that situation. Altough Chris didn't like very much the fact the aliens were not a mistery from the beggining, poping up at the screen everytime, I loved it because it's different from all the other movies where they try to hide something we already know, the entire movie. WE WANT TO SEE IT, and imagine ourselves in that situation looking at something that weird and terrifiying. I also love the fact they were able to merge drama with an alien invasion science fiction so perfecly. I truly felt for her. 11/10. Favorite alien movie of all time! Will for sure become a classic in the future. The alien CGI could've been better in the scenes inside the house, though. 🤔
This is the first time I saw the movie, was absolutely flabbergasted by the ending while hating it and then reached a point where I understood the ending and burst into tears about how sweet it was. What a film.
Even if the ending is thicker than most people would like, the ride is worth it to me. The movie leading up is intense. Found myself holding my breath a lot. We didn’t even notice the missing dialogue until more than halfway through
I don't know if Hollywood's lost their damn mind, but this movie did have a lot of potential, first 15 min are suburb, takes a nose dive from there. Enjoy
I just finished watching this masterpiece. No One Will Save You is, in my opinion, the best horror movie of the year. I absolutely loved that the film had no dialogue, and the camera work and sound design were so creative. To be completely honest, I was NOT expecting the film to go in a dramatic and emotional turn near the third act. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It's now one of my favorite horror and sci-fi movies! I highly recommend it!
@jarls5890 lol people these days throw 'masterpiece' around like others throw 'narcissist' at all their exs, so you HAVE TO ask why. Otherwise they never really question their own reasoning.
@@jarls5890 Did you really watched the movie?? She was gonna talk to the police but then she bump to her dead bestfriend parents and remembered that she was already and outcast (alienated) from the society because of her past incident and thought no ones gonna believe or listen to her and decided that no ones gonna save her but herself
Ooh boy I COMPLETELY disagree on him relying too much on the classic alien look/showing them too much. How many horror movies can you actually say stuck with doing either of those two things? And going into horror lit - it's also an area completely barren of content. That alien look is known to the American conscious - sure - but we almost never see them portrayed with pure horror. It might just be me, but the classic grey aliens scare the fuck out of me (thanks for the childhood trauma M Night), and I loved seeing it so well done for maybe the second? time ever.
I really liked this movie up until that last 15 minutes. It’s so captivating and that moment on the road (you’ll know what I mean) would be an AMAZING cutoff to end the movie. All the effort to reach that very moment! Would’ve been amazing.
I don't know, man. This movie seemed to me like a mash up of scenes, shots and blocking from earlier, better movies like "Signs", "Straw Dogs", "Die Hard", even that one telling the abduction of Travis Walton. I got the impression that "No One Will Save You" stands on the thin line between homage and plagiarism - maybe done unconsciously, but even so... I truly disliked this one, despite the very good acting and sometimes interesting cinematography. The music score was also a downer for me, with its hammering of all the feelings I should be feeling over the scenes.
I was surprised that they went for the stereotypical grey alien for the most part but the sounds they made and the score in general was so brilliantly unnerving
The fact that if she let the aliens take her the first time they probably would've let her go and the movie would end. But instead she chose to fight back , her human instinct for survival kicked in and she drove the story without the story driving her, absolutely loved it
You put more thought into this review then the writers did into the movie. The ending sucked. Its at a 6/10 for a reason, cause its an average as hell flick.
This movie gave me some unsettling memories of when I watched the alien abduction slumber party from VHS 2 and that disturbed me. As dog lover, I recommend you should not watch it. The ending left me horrified and made me cry for the poor puppy.
I am writing a story called An Outsider Named Seraphim. The outsiders, or aliens, arrive on Earth to duplicate everyone before an extinction event. This movie really bothered me in how similar our ideas can be. It's cool, but upsetting lol.
Went into this film blind and had a blast with it. I was thinking more along the lines of classic Twilight Zone than Signs while watching it, right down to the ending and how it's shot. I honestly loved the spin on the grey alien design, too, especially with the way they communicated. I actually think having the aliens in full view worked in this movie's favor because of just how unpredictable their behavior was at times (that, and I think concealing the aliens in this movie would have completely contradicted the rest of the film's "show, don't tell" philosophy).
There's one moment in the opening montage where she mouths the words to a song while dancing. I think that's the only time onscreen she actually says anything, beyond the grunting and screaming.
Honestly don't think I've seen grief used as a subtext so well for character building to where you know enough to put pieces together but you're still wondering just exactly what happened. Then when you get shown why, it's the proper gut punch at the right time.
Very interesting, I'll definitely check it out. From the premise it reminds me of the Mexican found footage film "1974: The possession of Altair" would be interested in hearing your thoughts on that one as well.
There was no alien invasion. The woman simply could not live with the trauma of her past actions and created an experience in her damaged mind to cope with it in the final few moments of her life. I suspect she destroyed the house she lives in and eventually someone will find her dead from the wounds she inflicted to her abdomen in the woods. In the end, what we witnessed was her complete break with reality.
Unpopular opinion This movie was way better than Signs, but for those of you who didn't understand the ending. SPOILER WARNING! So after the aliens looked into Brynn’s memory of the guilt she's been stuck with, they all agree that they found something special in Brynn, the aliens let her go and Brynn lives a happy life like she has always wanted with the aliens taking over the humans in her town. In the end, no one in town saved Brynn, she saved herself from the aliens and her past guilt. Instead of humans, the aliens save Brynn and let her live the life she has always wanted.
@@chaburchak Somewhat, but not entirely. I believe the aliens were initially impressed by the way she fought against them. No matter how many times she was chased, cornered and attacked, she consistently survived. The aliens were perplexed as far as what to do with her. After a brief discussion, they turned to what was basically a supervisor who seemed to have the final authority. I believe whoever was in charge was the one who empathized with Brynn’s past trauma and resultant guilt. In the end, I believe she was rewarded for both her fighting skills and her past.
The ending was basically a recreation of brynns table with the houses and buildings and all the people, brynn just wanted to fit in and wanted people to like her, but because she killed her friend, she was all alone and the town was basically against her, in the end, she ended up happy finally feeling like she belonged with a bunch of friends, the aliens helped her.
I thought this movie was very good, not great but very good. Idk if it was because I endured skinamarink right before this and was happy to have plot and camera angles that weren’t mind numbingly boring. This flick had less dialogue than skinamarink and still got across a better message and atmosphere. If you’re expecting an action extravaganza you maybe disappointed because the movie is more about grief couched in an alien invasion setting. 8/10
This is coming out today? What the hell? The marketing should've done a better job at promoting this film. I felt like the trailer was just released last week. I gotta watch it now.

@@squatch545 the absolute best. Very down to earth. She hung with us a lot after every day, even though the shoot took a toll on her. I mean she’s the only main actor. She did a fantastic job
What was it like dude?
Thank you! THat's how I read it too, well put!
Mmm interesting but I'm not buying it, they seemed evil so why not kill her rather than changing the entire world population for her?
Spot on
I think the point of the movie is very clear - No one will save you (but yourself).
And the aliens knew she was already Alienated by the town.

Things like Oscars will completely ignore her since they basically pick the same movie every year, which doesn't really matter
since they pander to the massives and have no balls to pick comedies or horror movies.

Really interesting way of looking at. I like it
We see a form of mental manipulation part way through the movie and right before the ending. I think she was just better off in the invaded future than the pre-alien one.

I agree, great point. The ending was rather confusing but your interpretation seems like a good grasp on what it actually meant.
I loved their gang signs and air traffic control.

Kaitlyn Dever is absolutely incredible in the show Unbelievable. So definitely excited to see her performance here. Seems very tense and suspenseful.
Indeed she was. She was great in Dopesick as well 👍🏻👍🏻.
I actually caught the message of the movie. They didn't keep her possessed and she didn't mind dancing around with possessed townsmen because the Aliens realized she was already Alienated from the whole town (Get it, ALIENated). Right? I loved it, yeah the effects *could’ve* been a bit better but like, they’re aliens, they’re supposed to have an uncanny valley effect on us

Kaitlyn would have been a fantastic Ellie in a Last Of Us movie 7-8 years ago.
Yeah..I remember seeing her on Justified, and when I played Last of Us, it was pretty much her I was picturing as Ellie the whole time I was playing. The girl on the show does a good job. But I do kinda wish the show came out in time for Kaitlyn to have plaid Ellie.
She still could've played ellie much better than the other girl who plays her
She could play older Ellie in season 2
She can play her now vs. Abby!
The aliens ultimately showed her more humanity than the humans themselves.

Whoo.
Loved it.
Frl
Except.... SPOILERS
....they sent a clone version of herself that stabs her in the stomach. Twice. After attempting to force feed her one of those squiggly slimy wormy mini aliens so they could MIND CONTROL HER FOREVER didn't work out. I'd say they try to hurt her, just not (at first) by damaging the body they are trying to take control of.
Except that little Grey Guy, that guy was an asshole lmao.
I actually just watched, and adored the movie. The Alien interaction was a huge part in telling this story. What an excellent movie. A+
This film was different and the storyline was refreshing.
(yet she runs an "online business" or something similar)
I was seriously considering if she was suffering from autism and was dealing with serious social anxiety - but her behavior does not match (she has no problem looking people in the eyes, etc).
I got nothing against sci-fi and fantasy movies - but when behavior and internal logic makes no sense - I see little point in continue watching.

The Host was truly one of Meyers best works. Much better than the Twilight series. I’ll never understand why she never wrote a sequel.
Yeah that’s what I got out of it too and ruined the movie for me. She killed someone and ok she feels bad about it that doesn’t take a way what she did. And so now the town’s people have to be mind controlled because they were cold toward the person that committed murder. Just didn’t make sense for me.
Both valid points but yeah the ending is so whatever.

I hated. HATED. the ending when I first watched it. then I watched it with a friend, and told her how I thought it was religious symbolism.

That's the first thing I thought of. I genuinely thought the twist was going to be that it was a guy in a costume.
Ahhh I’ve been so excited for this movie 😍
The film makers is saying no one else can deal with your demons, only you can find redemption and move forward
A really odd choice over it being a true accident.
this movie tries too hard to blow your mind with 30 different ideas, not caring if they actually work together
@@paimog9233 thats a lot of taught process for a cheesy D movie with a bunch of cliches thrown here and there
Katelyn is a acting like a boss. Her facial impression set the mood in every seen. She doesn't say much, but Her non verbal communication is of the chain. 2 hours of dialog wouldn't be enough the explain all the emotions she is showing. Without words you instantly understand what she is going through. That's acting people...like boss
That shirt goes so hard. Need more Third Form Frieza merch. Also this movie totally rules
Review starts at 1:46 - yup, one third of the video is a sponsor ad
@ChrisStuckmann_0 Out of respect for the man you shouldn't pretend to be him. There are always people who fall for it and they believe whatever you post is the real C.S.'s opinion, so that's not okay. You wouldn't want someone to go on your social media and post stuff in your name while that stuff doesn't represent you or your opinions at all.
Still finding my own answers to the ending, but the ride along the way was a 10/10. Sound design, editing, and sci-fi elements are top tier.
its a critic of people getting vaccine and the others like the writer.....as if getting the vaccine(parasite implant looking exactly like Covid virus) will make you numb and living a clueless life being watched and monitored.Could have been so much better as a real alien story but it turned into a cliche anti-vax and anti-governemt/leader propaganda.
Anyone who’s seen Justice League, starro basically attaches to their host trying to give them a utopia or to live their best dream while the host gets used, the only way is to break free of the dream and the illusion is to realize it’s fake and unreal, that was cool to see.
I really hate when movies like this go straight to streaming. This should have been in theaters.
Why are RUclipsrs being sponsored by BetterHelp again? Is it not a scam anymore?
It's not a scam! Chris uses it all the time! He will tell you himself how it's not a scam!
When they showed the alien I was like ... oh PAUL ... but then it wasn't Paul
I really liked this movie. It have some beautiful shots, scenes and very good sound quality
This and Moon Garden are films that have haunted me in a great way this year. I really enjoy the minimal dialogue of this one. Every breath is amplified. Thanks so much for the review! This was a great kick off to my weekend 👾👾👾👾👾
So glad I'm Stuckmannized.
Insane
I'm thinking this is all her deranged fantasy, but I like your take on it too.
Brian Duffield is doing some great work!! I am loving the progress he is making ❤❤
funny how the parasite looked like the Covid virus.....this is some crappy propaganda disguised as an alien movie. The moral is dont accept what they try to put into you or you will become a numb puppet like in the end(responsible people that got their vaccine).
I'm going to watch this today glad you're reviewing stuff on streaming services coming out
This is one of the most unique films I have ever seen.
This is why Chris is my favorite film reviewer. Videos like this making me aware of films i otherwise would have never heard of. Seeked and watched it tonight because of thos review. I enjoyed the film very much. Thank you Chris!
*Spoilers*
Seriously dumb ending.
@@brianm4677 I just don’t think y’all understand and that’s OK but that doesn’t mean the movies bad 🙃
nah, this movie was lifted wholesale from the basement evasion scene in _war of the worlds_ without any of the ingenuity
I liked that the aliens are not just a shadow it gave it a more realistic aspect. Was an amazing movie.
She's amazing. I'd never seen her before, but she's an excellent protagonist. Hope to see her more.
OMG i really LOVED IT!
Signs + Nope + Panic Room
This movie has it all.
Awesome. Watching it tonight!
It was everything Nope should have been, such a great Alien film!
all the cliches were exploit there....lame attempt at demonizing the vaccine against Covid.
This is the first time I saw the movie, was absolutely flabbergasted by the ending while hating it and then reached a point where I understood the ending and burst into tears about how sweet it was. What a film.
Just finished watching. It was really good! Finally an original story. Felt fresh.
Even if the ending is thicker than most people would like, the ride is worth it to me. The movie leading up is intense. Found myself holding my breath a lot. We didn’t even notice the missing dialogue until more than halfway through
I really enjoyed this movie. Kaitlyn Dever is very good and the end is interesting.
Masterpiece? Really?
Explain this. Why did she not talk to the police once she was at the station?
I too thought that was a better ending spot
I agree. It had me up until the last 15. Too bad.
My wife and I were really excited to see this movie. After watching, we both agreed it was one of the worse movies we had ever seen.
Weird, my wife and I agreed it was one of the best movies we’d ever seen in our lives.
I was surprised that they went for the stereotypical grey alien for the most part but the sounds they made and the score in general was so brilliantly unnerving
The fact that if she let the aliens take her the first time they probably would've let her go and the movie would end. But instead she chose to fight back , her human instinct for survival kicked in and she drove the story without the story driving her, absolutely loved it
no she would have been infected by the alien
You put more thought into this review then the writers did into the movie. The ending sucked. Its at a 6/10 for a reason, cause its an average as hell flick.
Really enjoyed the film, but what are you yapping about, that's not the point of the movie at all lmao
@@TheNichq thats on you. you dont understand the point of the movie and has very L take
This movie gave me some unsettling memories of when I watched the alien abduction slumber party from VHS 2 and that disturbed me.
That’s what I was expecting, like a huge meteor or something. I really like this ending though.
I’m only half way through and here I am because I JUST can’t get into it 😂😂
Agreed
Writers always portray aliens naked...? When they advanced in technology they figured clothing themselves is a waste of time?
Can’t wait to see your movie! 🍿
There's one moment in the opening montage where she mouths the words to a song while dancing. I think that's the only time onscreen she actually says anything, beyond the grunting and screaming.
As someone that loves sci-fi and anything with aliens
I freaking Loved this movie
The last 30-40 min was just me eyes glued to the screen smiling 😊
Unpopular opinion
This movie was way better than Signs, but for those of you who didn't understand the ending.
I never
That's _one_ possible interpretation
So basically the end of SPLIT, where the heroine's suffering is ultimately what saves her and not her efforts or actions?
Yeah they did a poor job promoting this
Great review Chris. I started watching this and had little to know information about the movie, and I was blown away. Totally unexpected. I'd love to see your review Duffield's, Love and Monsters!
