So I lived through the entire Jackson era. The Can You Feel It film was ahead of its time. No one had done anything like that before. Fun fact Taj and Tarryl (Tito's sons) were in that video. Michael was all about wanting racial harmony. The rainbow and the peacock were symbols for all people to unite. I am enjoying your reactions 😂 quite funny.
This is what MJ said about the use of the peacock 🦚 that he and his brothers used in their “Can You Feel it” Video and as a symbol on their album cover called Destiny. “That’s why you hear us talk about the peacock a lot, because the peacock is the only bird of all the bird family that integrates every colour into one, and that’s our main goal in music, is to integrate every race to one through music, and we’re doing that.” - Michael Jackson on use of the peacock by The Jacksons
Factoring out Mike, I'd say Randy had the most personal problems out of the Jacksons next to LaToya (who at least was able to apologize to Mike over Jack Gordon using her). Between getting shot at Tina Turner's house and going bankrupt, I think he was the most desperate to get some cash out of his family. Initially he was very close with Michael and he's a co-writer or writer for a lot of the Jacksons' later songs, showing that he did have talent. He also had the clutch move of hooking Mike up with Tom Mesereau to combat the child molestation charges against Mike, but he ended up inadvertently ruining his relationship with Michael with the drama when he pulled up to Michael's rented mansion demanding compensation from Michael for getting Tom Mesereau. I'm not sure if they ever made up again after that, but stuff like that was why Michael started making his family members (besides his mom) make an appointment to see him. He was emotionally exhausted and depressed after the trial. You really get the sense that for as much as fame helped the Jacksons get out of poverty and do great things, it also tore some of them apart during Michael's life and after his death.
The amazing thing to think of now is that the Can You Feel It video was seen as so futuristic at the time that it got its own spot on the biggest prime time tv show in 1981. Music videos weren't even a concept back then because MJ hadn't invented them. You make me laugh so much. I have always loved MJ but have also always found the whole MJ universe inherently hilarious and you totally get that because you also respect the talent.
